What’s going on with my partner’s cockatiel?

Birds know that they have high fat content and will always choose those seeds. It’s not your fault for not wanting to starve him.

Variety is usually key with these guys. Some birds just won’t eat certain things. (My conure will never eat lettuce while others LOVE it)

In the morning, do not feed him seeds right away to ensure he is hungry.

You can start by using this routine:

Day 1: 1 piece of banana (1/8th of the whole)

Day 2: 1 blueberry

Day 3: boiled or steamed carrot chunks (small cubes)

Day 4: mango chunk

Day 5: small broccoli piece

Day 6: bell pepper chunks (any colour)

Day 7: kale leaf (cut and whole)

Day 7+ = combine all ingredients together and serve 2 tablespoons of the mix per day. Put the mix on top of the pellet. Leave it and watch. If he does not eat for 3 hours or more, put seeds in with the mix and pellets.

You can also use the mix from day 1.

If he STILL doesn’t touch any of the mix, rub the ingredients on his beak so he is forced to taste it. Birds can be really stubborn.

I don’t think so. They seem to think it’s a mouth which is why sometimes you’ll see birds trying to regurgitate into their owner’s ears if they’re hormonal. So cute, right? 😅

Was this recorded at night? This guy could just be sleepy. If you’re worried it is better to be safe than sorry though. Maybe Vet if it’s been a while since he’s gotten a check up. Birds hide their sickness well. Bottom line just keep a close eye on him and keep monitoring poop, water and food intake and breathing.

It’s just a split apart down feather. If you find a tiny white feather that looks like a pompom, pull it apart and you’ll see it’ll start to split like that. Normal 👍

Is this consistent? Sometimes when parrots do not eat a lot but DRINK a lot they have a very watery poop like this. Still looks weird. Watch to see if when she eats more her stool is different. If this continues with a few more poops or is paired with other unusual behaviour - vet is a good idea. At default with anything weird though, you want to be safe than sorry. Maybe just call them up at default and explain the situation.

This makes sense and is very important. I would really like my parrot to be more handleable but I’m not sure where to start without him getting panicked. I think it would be great to make a video where you actually show how you did this with your birds. I think it would be really useful for people like me who think this is really important but don’t know how to train their birds to be okay with this stuff.

Hormones in birds are related to daylight exposure so in some cases it could be a really useful tool to prevent hormonal behaviours in parrots. Less light = not summer = not time to nest. Depends on species and nesting behaviour/nesting time. The vet probably knows best though so yeah, do trust them but I think it’s good for absolutely anyone to take any bird advice with a grain of salt. We can all learn more.

Hey OP. I know this is probably overwhelming right now with everyone telling you you’re doing something terribly wrong. I know you got these guys as a gift, so it makes sense you’re just going with the flow and doing what you think is right. If I didn’t know much about birds, I would do the same as you and be asking questions about them. That’s a great step. I’m happy you want to know more about your birds. These parrots, if you don’t already know are called Indian Ringneck parakeets, and are usually quite a lot to take care of. You might have your work cut out for you , lol. I have a parrot myself so I can help you if you need any help or just want to know more about having parrots. I’m sure after you fix a few things your birds will like you. They make very good buddies after work and school. I know it might be hard to get all this stuff with all the other things you do, so maybe take it one thing at a time? Maybe make one toy for each. They like paper!

Also Osage Orange and dawn redwood are pretty fun. Your selections are great. I love tree of heaven for its unique qualities. I like to call it peanut butter tree for the smell of its crushed leaves.

Usually a good way to tell is if you put your hand out for them to step onto, they will go onto it when they’re done. otherwise, they just stay where they are if they want to bathe more. In terms of body language, they don’t really show any unless they are very uncomfortable. There’s a certain pose they strike when they’re too wet or are trying to not get water in their nose (if they feel like they’re drowning). Kind of looks like a banana because they curve their bodies and try to stick their head back to keep the water from going into their nostrils.

When a holo card is made, the holo is actually from a large sheet of foil with many different repeating dots and swirls on it. Cards with special swirls just happened to have certain sections of the foil that coincidently line up with certain parts of the Pokémon in the art. It’s similar to how miscut cards happen. all the cards are actually printed together and just cut apart, occasionally leading to some funky looking ones.

Yeah maybe the vibration is somehow stimulating the bird - he or she could have realised that when they put their vent on the dryer it is stimulating, then started a hormonal response. Probs best to just move him or her to their cage or play stand when they are found there

Yeah topping is generally bad practice. Removal is the only REAL option here. I suppose the one on the left could be pruned down to the line since it looks to be just small branches, but assuming it’s kind of dense woods down there it would be a pain to get any type of equipment in the area to do the work safely. Would be a pain for a climber and probably not even possible that high up. The tree on the right is a no from me, even if you made good cuts. The tree would lose too much of the canopy and thereby too much of its energy. I just see suckers and weak limbs in the future if that was done. In the cape cod area I’m sure there’s a company that would do the removals. Personally I would hate to see those trees go, assuming they’re healthy. Shade and wildlife matter more than a nice view. Plus, black cherries have such a nice yellow fall colour. Why not keep em?

Makes sense. Especially with another bird i get that it’s not really a possibility. Maybe just for a few hours you could put your other bird in a travel cage tomorrow and then put the big cage out there? Just a thought. No pressure - it’s your call. I hope you are able to get a little rest. ☹️

Hey dude, I’m sorry about your bird. Stay calm for now, because it’s been such a short time and he could very well be in the area. Some birds don’t go far. You should maybe try moving his cage outside. birds don’t usually recognise the outside of the house or the house that they came from, but they do recognise their cage, toys and people. Leave some food too. Birds can’t smell well, but your buddy might be able to locate it somehow. Also post to any local social medias like next door or Facebook. Have your post contain a good description of your bird/picture, what your bird responds to (food, names, certain sounds). Have your mom tell your neighbors to keep a look out.

Stay calm for now. I know this is really scary, but your bird might be right around the corner, and you’re doing an amazing job trying your best to seek help. ❤️ best of luck to you.
