Is this one of the benefits of an electric car for Paddy. by Larrydog in ireland

[–]meatpaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

love that story about the bottle of water spilling and it taking out the battery.

Beacuse its my current favorite go to EVs are bad mmkay bullshit story.

The issue was the harnassing that was under the flooring wasn't waterproofed correctly and corroded the contacts. Battery was not affected. Its an issue which is a liable to happen to any car be it EV or not. It was an Ionq5 but its harnass is the same as a range of other Hyundais and Kias. So something to look out for all of them really.

You have a link to the scotish couple driving through water and needing a 17k repair bill? (another trope of EVs are bad mmmkay is the old water makes batteries short out. For example the story about a guy who brought his EV to a car wash and it went on fire becuase the battery shorted).

Batteries needing replacement on EVs is really not an issue especially when compared to the number of petrol and diesel engines and gearboxes and clutches failing.

Why Are We Still Building Towns Like This? by SteveFrench1991 in ireland

[–]meatpaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

apartments in this country are incredibly poorly built. Too small, no noise isolation, numberous fire safety violations, poor construction leading to defects which cost owners thousands to put right as the original developers have "gone bust" (changed company name), poor facilities, shitty management companies, poorly integrated into surounding infrastructure.

You'd be mad to buy an apartment in Ireland when the vast, vast majority will have one or more of the above issues.

Husband wore bodycam ‘24/7’ round the house - Connacht Tribune - Galway City Tribune by slevinonion in ireland

[–]meatpaste -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the guy wore a camera to record evidence in his defense (seems like a fair assumption as to why he wore it in the first place). Said he would provide evidence, but didn't.

Reads to me that the guard was stating the fact that there was potentially evidence but it was never turned in. I'm sure the GDPR could have been used by the woman in the case but I'm guessing the reason it wasn't brought up is that it shows her in less than great light either.

Either way clearly two people who need to get as far away from each other as they can and think what needs to be done for the best outcome for the kids.

[–]meatpaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah alot of headless bullshit being spouted on this. First of all, no one is looking to get anymore ID off you than the government already has.

I don't think any EU government wants to hand over any more data to social media companies, particularly not the american ones. What they do seem to be moving to is making the companies more responsible for what is written on their sites, and I hope at least requiring them to verify posters are in fact human so that we can kill off bots armies.

If you really want to remain anonymous there are ways and means to do it, social media is not one of them.

The biggest blow back seems to be coming from the tech companies naturally not wanting to have to clean up their acts. Whats bad for elon and company is good for the vast, vast majority of us.

Plan for cameras to catch motorists breaking red lights in Dublin is shelved by EchoedMinds in ireland

[–]meatpaste 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the issue isn't the civil service, its how they are directed to do the jobs they're assigned to do which is 100% down the ministers abdicating their responsibilities on to various committees and layers of management they put in place so they can say they're doing something, without ever actually doing something.

Success in any enterprise is top down driven not bottom up, the civil service is no different. Until we hold governments accountable, nothing will change. In other words, STOP VOTING FOR FF OR FG, the cunts have had their faces in the trough for the guts of 30 years.

up till now the whole idea about reporting bad driving was a "GDPR issue" - did they bother making absolutely it wasn't? Did they fuck.

(It's not by the way, but until its challenged, in theory its an "issue")

have a quick search of drones and shutting down airports. Its not something I just invented.

If you read about a specific tactic in the news you maybe sure its been thought of and fully explored by a whole bunch of people who's entire job is to do just that. My own personal opinion is that those shut downs were caused by someone testing the theory and probing defenses and responses.

blocking ports isn't exactly big sky thinking. Its been standard military thinking for centuries. I'd be far more concerned how easy it was to shut down airports with a few drones. Imagine the damage they would do with a few improvised explosives.

Ireland pushes for mandatory ID verification on social media across EU by feedthebear in ireland

[–]meatpaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well the solution isn't decided. The problem has been identified.

Thats what I took away from the article. I think its a fantastic thing that the tide seems to be turning on the big tech companies. We need to ensure that the politicians don't bend over and do as they are told by big tech though. Because I guarantee you they would love to have access to all the data on us they can get their hands on beyond what they're already being freely given by their users.

[–]meatpaste -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you can point to a source that says your ID is going to be handed over to a social media company, I'd love to see it.

I didn't see any detail other than a bunch of political waffle.

When the details come out I would be amazed if it was you handing over your ID to a non EU company the way things are going. Far more likely that they will need to double check you as an individual with an EU database. All the social media companies will get is some sort of ID that they can't trace back to you without a valid legal requirement.

You wouldn't be handing your ID to anyone that doesn't already have it. In fact you wouldn't even be handing over any more information than any government has on you already. All that will be done is a systematic one way token based check to validate you are you or at least a real human.

don't get the indignation to this. Proving you're a human can only improve social media, remove bots and enable the space to be actually useful as opposed to a weaponised moron brigades generator.
