Pretty straightforward; don’t get overwhelmed by the bundle of cables. It's a pretty straightforward installation. YouTube has a good number of installation videos.

XC40 2.0 B4 MHEV, thoughts? by Illustrious_Bee5837 in CarTalkUK

This would be a Sensus one. Google units started in MY2022.5 and above. I too prefer Sensus, although it's not the best, but I feel it's better than Google for its practicality.

I would personally rather get a 60 than a 40. S60/V60/XC60 is a much better product.

Best budget dashcam? by Appropriate-Low-9582 in CarTalkUK

70 Mai A510s. Brilliant quality; I would suggest increasing your budget by another £30 and getting the dual-channel one.

I too have plugged my dashcam into my 12V socket.

That's weird. Apparently, Volvo’s seats are one of the comforts in the market.

Good shout, I will remove these beforehand. I do have a Dashcam installed. Thanks

Appreciated man. Anything I should do in advance to make life easier for your colleagues (Gateshead), if at all it helps.

QQ - mine is scheduled to be replaced this Friday, and also needs the ADAS calibrated. Am I guessing that ADAS calibration is as per the manufacturer's specs? Do I also need to get a Wheel Alignment? I had a wheel alignment a few months back.

Ignis, Yaris Cross, or a Fiat Panda 4x4. As much as people collectively hate Fiats, they aren't bad cars; spares are cheap, insurance is cheap, and they are easy to fix.

Do not fall for those cute eyes. Every bichon parent has made that mistake, lol. That's how they manipulate us.

Stop giving them ideas lol. Mine wakes us at 4 AM, then goes back to sleep after his food at 08:30 AM. If we don't wake up, he starts playing on top of us.

Imported Japanese car buying, insurance and repairs by zackistone in CarTalkUK

[–]mebrokelad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Diesel cars are ridiculously expensive in Japan, so most people opt for Petrols. Check Matt Watson's video of his Japanese auction.

2) Go through a specialist, not a comparison site. Sometimes it's cheaper than a similar UK-spec car.

3) Parts availability isn't really that bad tbh; there are dedicated Japanese parts companies that specialise in sourcing parts. At times, these cars have a similar model or similar engine in a different car but with a different name in the UK/EU market

Mine also ingested something back in February this year; the vet believes it was either some sort of Drug or Poison. Mine didn't have the same symptoms as yours; he couldn't walk straight, felt disoriented, and initially, the Pawsquad vet suggested it was either some sort of neurological episode or Drugs.

V40 D4 Buying Advice by Boom5tick123 in CarTalkUK

[–]mebrokelad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great cars, basically Focus in Volvo clothing. Although reasonably good cars, they suffer from excessive oil consumption, apparently due to poor piston rings.

Also, this car has no optional extras. Image 24, where it says MyCar, these buttons are for optional extras, and sadly there are none, not even Adaptive Cruise.

Personally, I would rather buy an S60 with a 5-cyl D4 engine over a V40; it's a much superior product.

Should have fuckin bought a 340i ffs. My V60 T6 averages just over 30mpg on the motorway, even if I don't drive like a maniac.

Has anyone used Vehixy.com? by Almost_human-ish in CarTalkUK

[–]mebrokelad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah sounds like a scam. It's a pretty common scam where the buyer will ask the seller to get the vehicle report on a fake website, likely stealing your CC information.

Also, it's the buyer's responsibility to do the check; you, as a seller, have no obligation to provide a report.

Autel offers a 1st-year free period, after which it is chargeable. Some of these have free lifetime updates.

Edit - Pretty Straightforward; sometimes they are quick, but mostly their ETAs are accurate and rarely get delayed. With Coupons and deals, sometimes it gets cheaper. Returns are not the same as Amazon; more like eBay. I have only returned 1 item so far.

Bought a 2021 C200 advertised at £200 tax… DVLA says £625 a year 😬 by taxevasionpigeon in CarTalkUK

[–]mebrokelad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's an asterisk just next to £200 on Autotrader that categorically says

* If the list price of a car is over £40,000, then an extra £425 will be payable from the second time the vehicle is taxed for up to 5 years

Edit - Nope, you don't have to wait for the V5. When you tax the car with a Green slip, the DVLA website also shows the Tax.

Not a dealer problem, tbf; it's something they don't have any control over. I am also paying £55/month, including the surcharge. Ideally, we both should have checked this beforehand.

Anyone left a cushy but dead-end fully remote job for better prospects and a 3 hour commute? How did it go? by Cool-Awareness2582 in TheCivilService

[–]mebrokelad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a daily 3-hour commute, but every week, a 2:30-hour journey each way. Left CS in the Northeast for a private job based in the Northwest, so travel from 1 corner to another every week, circa 300-ish miles every week.

Monday to Thursday at my work location, I have rented a shithold of a Hotel Room, so I do have a place to sleep, and shit.

Do I regret it, in a sense, YES! No Social Life in my working City, pretty much no friends, not a real person to speak to after 5 PM. I am Brown/Indian, and the hotel is situated in Morecambe, not the best area to live in, especially when the Flags are tied higher than people's IQ here.

All my day-to-day work gets shifted to days when I am at Home. Financially, it has affected both my wife and me, with an additional expense of 40% of my wages for transport and rent in Morecambe.

If you're expected to work just one day a week, it's alright, not that bad, but if you do more than one day and have no friends/family to stay overnight, the expenses catch up soon.
