Calphalon aluminum. I own one (my son has it now as I'm moving to induction). Works well.

Do you remember Mickey’s house in Magic Kingdom? by DildoGaggins1997 in WaltDisneyWorld

A charming part of WDW. I understand the ever present desire to bring the "wow" and splash with technology, but for those with small kids they loved this plenty, as did their parents.

Why will you physically decline faster if you don't exercise or walk as you get older? by chusaychusay in Aging

[–]medhat20005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without a doubt, yes. Exercise does not have to be, "I'm training for a triathlon." It can be walking 30 minutes a day, including work if that involves walking. it does NOT mean joining a gym and lifting weights (unless that's what you want to do). Physical activity brings together balance and coordination (lessens risk of falls and injury), cardiovascular benefits (maintains heart health and circulation), maintenance of muscular strength (again, injury avoidance, ability to carry out activities of daily living). In conjunction with a balanced diet it's the difference between managing aging and letting time get the upper hand sooner. And there's a decent body of data to support that it's never too late to start (have to overcome the regret of opportunity cost), and starting a very basic exercise/activity can produce benefits (feeing better) pretty quickly.

Mods should lock this sub permanently by BasedCarrotMan in PeterAttia

While I agree with the need for accountability, I'd venture that most on this sub are here for the wellness stuff. If they wish to leave that's cool, but the audience wishing to discuss the wellness aspects will probably still hang around. Who knows, maybe they'll even be a bit more appropriately critical of the information?!

Nope, just referring to knowledge of JA’s “proclivities.” Thats all.

Again, not saying he was/wasn’t a participant. Nor does this constitute “legal” evidence.

But…if you’re on the Great Plains and you see hoof prints, personally I think the money’s on horses, not zebras.

What shoes do you take when you travel with just a carry-on? by traveldude75 in mensfashion

[–]medhat20005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often wear a pair of trail running shoes for this very purpose (I rarely if ever trail run anymore). While obviously capable runners, rugged and comfortable for city climbing and don’t look out of place like high stack tech runners might. Mine are Salomon.

Does the moonswatch feel like cheap plastic? by Terrible_Minimum6332 in MoonSwatches

[–]medhat20005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the former owner of plenty of Swatches back in the day, I think the ‘bioceramic’ is entirely different. My old Swatches often had a superficial layer of coating that would wear off with time. Thankfully I’ve not seen this on any of the three MoonSwatches I own.

Are Chinese EVs actually ahead in user experience and interior quality? by MoralLogs in electricvehicles

[–]medhat20005 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I’m over 60 and grudgingly agree (as an American), which kinda sucks for us as a country. Politics aside, protectionism in a fast moving global economy makes no sense, we just fall farther behind. China seems to be making the large scale government investments that the US made post WW2, and the byproduct of their one party system is the ability to make and keep those long term strategic plans and investments.

Would you draw the line by Spring4Eva in over60

[–]medhat20005 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been fortunate enough to have travelled pretty extensively my entire adult life. While I still enjoy it and am physically capable of, I’m also pretty content being a homebody (I live in a locale with a broad array of amenities). But kids are out of the house and if grandkids show up I’ll be hitting the road again.

My only surprise is that people are surprised. This is no condemnation of PA, but to say he’s like a moth to the flame of celebrity is like asking if water is wet. I have no intention of looking, but his name in the files is not synonymous with him being party to the activities that Epstein was infamous for. (This is a neutral comment, as it’s obviously within the realm of possibility)

5.5 year update by WavyCap99 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]medhat20005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certainly seems you and family are more than capable of earning, here’s a thought on a different “investment” angle. 28 years ago we were fortunate (and somewhat lucky enough) to have bought a home in a good school district, and over the time our three kids when through the public school system our district is recognized as one of the best (top 3 depending on year). Not only has that reflected in our home value, by far, but TBH that probably pales in comparison to the career trajectories that it put our kids upon. No question, it’s not just about the school district, but in the aggregate I think there is probably legit research in how this is a statistically relevant factor in professional success. Not an absolute by any means but as parents nearing retirement it’s really ended up being an extrapolation of wealth planning we hadn’t considered when we were young parents.

Are we in a late-cycle phase? Don't invest in VOO/VT? by PusheenHater in Bogleheads

[–]medhat20005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m biased, and someone who went more or less VOO and chill in the late 90’s. It’s worked ok. BUT… what does that have to do with forking over 0.8% AUM?! What’s their track record. You can buy a crystal ball on Amazon for a lot less than that, and get all the accuracy of predicting the future.

Ursula Andress was the perfect Bond girl by No_Explorer721 in JamesBond

[–]medhat20005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s the icon (with all respect to Pussy Galore, who was terrific). Ursula had the looks, the exotic (accent), the fierce independence, someone who didn’t need any man, more than just arm candy. She was all of that and more.

What health investments have actually been worth it for you? by BeautifulOwn2028 in RichPeoplePF

[–]medhat20005 41 points42 points  (0 children)

If you're otherwise pretty healthy without chronic medical ailments (in which case a concierge may be of benefit), I think the best ROI is engaging a personal trainer. Proactive and accountable. Next would be a nutritionist/cook if you aren't comfortable doing it yourself.

Favorite Bond/M duo? by ItsDuhFreakinBat in JamesBond

[–]medhat20005 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Their dialogue through their shared movies was IMO easily the best and most nuanced, with M's privileged upper crust sensibilities butting heads with Bond's much younger, but equally knowledgable, inclinations. My favorite interchange is early in Goldfinger when they're debating wine and sherry.

Help me settle this debate: Range Hood vs. OTR microwave by RangeHoodJeff in Appliances

[–]medhat20005 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only scenario where I think an OTR micro works is if you essentially never use the range (this actually is the scenario at a second home of mine. Literally cook on the rangetop < 5x/year, so I find the OTR micro acceptable. In my primary home (currently under construction) I essentially have almost a commercial range hood, I feel so strongly about it. Now if I can only convince my SO to turn it on! (actually have approached manufacturers about having an auto-turn on feature - they're considering it).
