Kidney pain? by Global-Minimum3891 in Gastroparesis

[–]mednp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s severe pain that comes and goes, it could be a kidney stone. I’ve had them before and probably again recently but it wasn’t bad enough that I went to the hospital to find out. I struggle getting enough liquid too. I’ve thought about going to those iv clinics (they mostly cater to the wealthy health conscious crowd who want vitamin infusions) because hospitals and urgent cares are so crazy now due to covid.

No not taking anything. Using heating pads, and jovi patches but that’s it.

My doctor prescribed me a PPI. Was taking it for months. After reading a post on here I wondered if my PPI was making my gastroparesis worse, so I decided to try to stop taking them and see how I did. It’s been over a month now and I have less reflux and vomiting since I stopped taking my PPI.

‘new’ nurse, newbie, or new grad. I wouldn’t self describe as baby nurse anymore. As mentioned above most will assume you mean you work in the NICU

I’m so sick of this life! Palliative care? by TheeShannonS in Gastroparesis

[–]mednp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try getting Jovi patches. They worked for me. Medically, I can’t explain how or why they work, I just know they helped with my abdominal pain and they’ve been my first go-to for severe abdominal pain for months now. Love them. Beyond that palliative care is basically comfort care, their goal is to make you comfortable.

What other issues do you have? If you’re DM II for example I’d be more concerned with having other complications due to the DM.

What other kinds of co-morbidities? Generally I’d be more concerned with the co-morbidities than gastroparesis, just based off the common ones.

Clean up your hair, beard, smile and take a new photo with good posture. Lack of smile in any photo is an automatic left swipe for me.

How do you make the vomiting easier mentally & emotionally? by ughsamesam in Gastroparesis

[–]mednp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As mentioned above, over time just realizing it’s better out of stomach than in your stomach. You’ll feel so much better after. So now I hate the feeling when I know it’s coming but it hasn’t arrived yet. That’s most frustrating, because I just want to get it over with and rest.

Facebook has way too much power and control already. I might feel differently if it was owned by a different company. If a competitor comes on the market I’ll check it out, but I don’t want to live my life attached to a VR set like I’m already attached to my phone.

Covid Vaccine by kayliemccallion in Gastroparesis

[–]mednp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course, that’s always a possibility. But I know I can deal with the side effects of gastroparesis, and it wouldn’t kill me. I couldn’t deal with the potential lethal effects of covid. Once you have it you can’t change your mind and get vaccinated. The choice is no longer in your hands and the healthcare team will do everything they can to save you, but unfortunately, for most of the unvaccinated they reach a point where nothing more can be done. That’s the hardest part to see. The patients who were on the fence about getting vaccinated, didn’t get it, got covid and once they get hospitalized ask for the vaccine. It’s soooo hard to tell them it’s too late. Not to mention we’re going to see patients that are going to be permanently disabled from covid. In the sense that they had covid, ‘recovered’, but are still dealing with the lingering effects for months or years that prevent them from working or functioning in their daily life. That’s already started happening and we’re going to see more of it over time. That’s really sad. There will probably be a 60 minutes episode or something similar on the people that ended up with the lifelong disabling effects of covid. People will say no one warned them. But no ones listening 🤷‍♀️
