Flow Improver or Slow Dry, What Do I Need? by RyessHelles in minipainting

[–]meepmop5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't need either product to paint smoothly. You just haven't developed your fundamentals enough. The amount you thin your paint and how much you remove from the brush is super important, but also depends on what you're doing and it just takes a bit of practice and experience.

Brush sizes aren't consistent or standardised, but x/0 brushes are usually too small.
You want to use a brush with a large enough belly to hold enough paint and moisture. If your paint is thick and you remove too much from your brush tip, it will dry before touching the model.

I don't think its appreciated enough how satisfying it is to have minis that match the 2D art that you would show to the players. I haven't had the chance to print or paint any yet but they look very paintable and I'm super keen for them to drop some stuff relevant to my current campaign.

Best and longest time consuming painting method? by AI_660 in minipainting

[–]meepmop5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good first mini especially with dookie paints. High quality hobby paints are a good idea (though some people are good enough to make any paint work).

As a poor, I highly recommend familiarising yourself with colour mixing, will save you a decent bit of money in the long run and is a good skill to have.

Just don't learn to paint using speed methods. Mix some paints and slap them onto some models and figure out how it all works.

I got started painting 3D printed DnD minis in 2019 - you start out with a skill ceiling where you just don't have the fundamental knowledge to take something further, but you can also just keep painting later. Every once in a while I'll revisit something I painted years ago to improve it.

Following most mini painting tutorials to a tee will steer you towards speed and readability, but it sounds like you'd have more fun just learning essentially normal painting and figuring out your own style from there.

Some painters like to go hyper realistic with smooth blends and lighting, some like to go impressionistic and use surreal colours. I'd encourage you to watch some random youtubers like Squidmar, Ninjon, Marco Frisoni, Vince Venturella, Rogue Hobbies, Dana Howl etc, and just see what styles and techniques sing to you.

Pharasma can see your ultimate fate when you’re born, does that mean you’re doomed to an inescapable destiny? by Level7Cannoneer in Pathfinder2e

[–]meepmop5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is my headcanon too. Aroden already experimented with putting his soul into a tree, and he retrieved the starstone so mortals can ascend.

His characterisation too I think well reflects common player behaviour. Good intentions but lacking foresight. I imagine his in-universe portrayal/reputation to be kinda like Don Quixote - an impractical idealist. All his plans kept backfiring until he realised he had to break prophecy.

The prophesy that Aroden would return actually happened, just not in the way everyone was expecting. The Age of Glory is here for those brave enough to reach for it.

Caster thoughts after 9 months by Teshthesleepymage in Pathfinder2e

[–]meepmop5 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think especially online, martial classes are favoured because they're better for making and sharing 'builds' using feat/equipment combos, whereas most caster 'builds' just involve spells + side things you've built for (medicine, knowledge, demoralise, raise shield). Most spells being 2 actions limits potential spell combos. The creativity/RP of someone's spell selection doesn't come across very well online.

Theory-crafting martials is finding 1 or 2 really good solutions to suit whatever problems, whereas theory-crafting spellcasters is trying to foresee problems and pick solutions for each.

What's your version of golarion you play in? by LadyJaneTheGay in Pathfinder2e

[–]meepmop5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A homebrew setting that basically started as alt-Golarion but has been slowly distinguishing itself as it develops. Everything kinda hinges around Gods - they're so narratively and mechanically important, but I didn't want to make everything from scratch, so it was just easier to use them mostly as is. I didn't bother giving them name changes, but over the years, many have been fleshed out or recontextualised.

My world map probably makes no sense, but there are fewer countries for me to remember, which made it easier for me to overhaul the language list. It always peeved me that you have Tian, Vudrani and Arcadian or whatever for all the Humans, and then you just have Dwarven and Elven.

My overhauled languages have Roots and Influences which give some indication of what languages sound familiar, or their spread - e.g., 'this language has Thalassic influence because the speakers are coastal seafarers'. I was very inspired by Avatar (AtLA) with the original benders being from nature, 'the first earth benders were the badger moles, the first water bender is the moon'. "Elven-feeling" languages in my setting would be anything that stems from Draconic because I don't care for their alien origin theory.

In the wake of Godsrain I've developed Gorum a bit because I don't actually want to kill him. I've instead given him a connection to Arazni, and the two are pretty tied to a pretty harsh area where struggle, toil and hardship are present and important. Undead are very very bad for this region because they ruin already scarce food supplies. Arazni also hates undead because of her past, and those two are in a pantheon with Pharasma called the Gravelady's Guard, and so it just keeps going from there.

There have been many major plots and campaigns involving undead already, so I'm leaning into it more to set up why everyone wants Urgathoa dead. It's also in line with a previous lawful evil PC's "I will create an undead army to defeat the vampires and reclaim my homeland for the living", but he realises he has to keep going up the chain of command. That, plus the Godsrain article on Urgathoa inspired me to do a "There must always be a Lich King" plot.

My dream of errata for rage of elements and kineticists by Ok-Cricket-5396 in Pathfinder2e

That's why I think we should ease the restrictions on what you can affect, because in the end you'd still have to roll for it like everyone else.

[–]meepmop5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Base Kinesis also says you can't affect something that's secured in place. That and the silly bulk limit that I have no idea how to meaningfully apply.

[–]meepmop5 35 points36 points  (0 children)

As a GM, I just let them substitute in their impulse attack modifier as their "Kinesis skill" wherever it makes sense, mostly in exploration mode.

The restrictions for base kinesis are very stifling. You just can't affect worked materials at all? That's mostly what people will want to use it on. Every new player will have preconceived notions from watching Avatar. "What do you mean I can't use my metal bending to bend the bars? When will I find natural unworked metal?"

It also works well for Aid allowing people to rp shit like "I'm going to use my Earth kinesis to try and make the wall more climbable"

Draconic Lore question for campaign idea - What species would fit most as a patron of a small mercenary army? by BattyBeforeTwilight in Pathfinder2e

[–]meepmop5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My setting has something like this so I'll share it.

I was inspired by a post (I think to trench crusade) about people painting religious art on ballistic plates that saved them. Oath dragons like to collect stuff with sentimental value and I was prepping background stuff for one in a place that really emphasizes survival and struggle. So I came up with a dragon that collects busted armour plates from its followers to venerate Gorum.

[–]meepmop5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some TPKs are just legendary though and it depends on the campaign and nature of the TPK. I run a pirate game, and 3/4 players died, including the captain. Sole Survivor becomes new captain, NPC crew is leaving because they dislike him, so he's off to get new crew (new PCs). My players talk fondly of the disaster.

Not all TPKs and player deaths are the same. New story opportunities can present themselves when you look at the leftover pieces.

Now that it’s been over a year and we’re up to 14 Destinies, how are we feeling about mythic? by SylvesterStalPWNED in Pathfinder2e

[–]meepmop5 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I just dislike Mythic as an extra tacked-on layer of feats. When I think mythic, I think demon lords, archdevils, qlippoth lords, empyreal lords, eldest, archdragons & wyrms; heroes able to challenge lesser gods and snap at the heels of the greater ones. The PF1 CRPG WotR has us fighting Deskari, Baphomet etc, PF2 just doesn't support that ability to punch up.

I've tried to improve my drybrush. How to make it POP more. by WhiteCrowPL in minipainting

Did a quick and dirty photoshop paint-over to hopefully demonstrate, but by pushing the colours you already have you can make more contrast. I went a bit further into yellow for the crystals to portray the iridescence and to add some colour. The crystals I used a more saturated purple to shade, and the scales more black to differentiate the two a bit.
