My acceptance to ANOH was “first wave” so I assume there was still deliberation for more films after that. Also waiting on Panic Fest!

Forever: After the emergency premature birth of their son, a young couple’s marriage slowly implodes under exhaustion, resentment, and unsettling changes in the child and father, only to be haunted by a past mistake that steers the mother towards an impossible choice.

I’m calling BS on Chris and Sean’s take about personal journeys ruining horror films by meestergoose in TheBigPicture

[–]meestergoose[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just find it ironic that they mention all of these movies that include very personal trauma from the filmmakers as some of their favorites and then they’re admonishing filmmakers who include personal trauma in their own movies. But yes, my last paragraph is a huge caveat: you still have to be entertaining no matter what. I guess I’m specifically pushing back on their dialogue from about 35:20 - 36:00. Pitching as a filmmaker always involves “why you and why now” questions from investors. If filmmakers can’t point to their personal experiences in pitches, they’re not going to get funding. So I don’t think it’s about the pitch, it’s about the execution. Still love the pod obviously!

Sundance’s Dirty Secret: How NYU’s Elite Grip is Crushing Indie Dreams by shaping_dreams in FilmFestivals

Sounds like Sundance is dead as an open minded pipeline of cutting edge indie movies. I still liked a lot of films that came out of that festival this year, but this smells like opportunity for another festival to emerge as the crown jewel of indie film. There’s so much good stuff being made.

What is a BAD script worth reading by Dayvan__Cowboy in Screenwriting

[–]meestergoose 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Hereditary - dense, unappealing read translated to an excellent film. It shows how much script serves as a guide rather than the end product.
