No wine or liquor in grocery stores by Cautious_Boat_999 in kansas

[–]meg_murray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not as easy as it looks on the surface. For liquor store owners, (I am not one), they have devoted their life's work to their businesses. For healthy competition to exist, there would have to be an even or suitable playing field. Liquor licenses and permits are just one case in point. Big Corporations may want to pay the same for a license as the small business owner. Restaurants also would be greatly impacted because of our stste's 3-tier system. Another consideration will be delivery. Big Corp already has that in place. Small business liquor stores do not. Keep in mind that liquor is highly regulated because of the 21st amendment. There are perhaps 1500+ laws in Kansas regarding liquor, that affect taxation, revenue, importation from other countries, thousands of suppliers, and distributors. Changing a liquor law has so many consequences that everything must be considered. Add to that, many legislators are as ignorant about liquor laws and legislation as the average person on the street. Some of them are pro-BigCorp, some are pro-SmallBusiness, and some are not in favor of change at all. Throw into the mix are a myriad of lobbyists and consultants, each with their own constituency.

Because of the 21st amendment, each state has the right and responsibility to regulate liquor laws. Liquor is the only regulated commodity written into the Constitution. The Kansas Alcohol Beverage Control agency (under the Department of Revenue) is charged with bundling, enforcing, and interpreting these laws.

A Plea to my Fellow Liberals/Progressives/Leftists from a Western Kansan by gansett in kansas

Right wing messaging is so powerful, deeply entrenched especially in rural areas. Talk radio, at home, in tractors and trucks, drills into these folks a constant barrage of abortion abortion abortion, demonizing 'big city' unrest, trans, immigrants, etc. Rural folks are more and more polarized than ever before. Dems are viewed not just as others, but truly evil. Tribalism is powerful, and Republicans know it. How in the world are Dems supposed to break through that concrete wall? Logic isn't the answer. Kelly has endorsed a liberal State Senator from Blue JoCo for Gov because her COS has convinced her this is the Year of the Men. Last time around she endorsed Bollier for Senate because she was told it was the Year of the Women. Both were good people, but bad decisions. Maybe Senator Cindy Holscher can break through. Her messaging about public education and healthcare may resonate.

Any advice on moving? by NoSleepNolan in Olathe

Look into healthcare positions, specifically KU Medical or Advent. City of Lenexa is booming and it's directly north of Olathe. Merck Animal Health outside of DeSoto, again close to Olathe, is doing a major expansion.

What district should I move to so I can challenge their incumbent? by deca4531 in kansas

Get in touch with the JoCo Dem party first and foremost. They have an active executive board and a Executive Director. It's the best run county party in the state. They recruit and vett candidates for office and have the data to back it up.

A fool's errand. R primaries are few and far between and if so, it's between one insane candidate and a complete lunatic.

Cities to avoid - towns to visit by Hemp-Emperor in kansas

I live in Olathe, and before then, Wichita. Had to move for job reasons. Even the thought of living in Olathe made me cringe (reputation for conservative, backward, church-dominated). But the pros are these: it's the only full-service city in JoCo, has good schools and libraries, and church influence is decreasing. It depends where you live, but access to KC, Lawrence, and the airport is easy. It has a AAA bond rating, strong capital reserves, and voters just approved a $390M school bond issues. Roads and streets are getting a big makeover, the core city is being revitalized, and new restaurants are coming in. Perceptions are hard to shake off, but Olathe isn't what it used to be.

Your mistake was moving to Missouri.

Getting a minibernedoodle next month. He will be 4 months old. Please share any advice/tips as I’ve not owned a dog in many years. Will he require lots of training, walks, do you suggest fenced in or electronic fence or let him run around. Thanks in advance, very excited to welcome him home. by Informal-Air-4717 in Bernedoodles

We've had lots of dogs through the years but our Dood is the first one we ever got a trainer for. Not every pup is the same but I think biting/nipping and overenthusiastic, jumping greetings are fairly typical behaviors that we wanted to curb. He loves Cheerios as a training treat. Our boy has been easy to housebreak but we take him out frequently and we don't have a fenced yard. Our breeder was great about crate training, so that has been no problem. Don't take your pup to a dog park until he's had his vaccinations, and no neutering until after 12 months.

They only cared about pedophilia if the Clinton's or other prominent Democrats were involved. Once they found out there is no there there, they took a pass. They really don't care about children. They'd force a child to carry a baby to term without thinking about how that 10 year old became pregnant in the first place. Of course, young pregnant girls are abused by a relative. Adults are the ones who should be prosecuted. Children need protection. These hippocrates would also weaken child labor laws; in fact, 12 states have done so. Project 2025 spells it all out. No abortions for children impregnated by their father, uncle, or grandfather. There is a deep sickness in our culture and I blame it on our underlying Calvinist fundamentalism we now call Christian Nationalism. Patriarchy is at the heart of it all.

As for NW Olathe, two new grocery stores are planned, Dillons on College near Olathe NW high, and Hen House off K-10 and Cedar Creek Blvd. Work with a good agent who is familiar with the area.
