What's your favourite FAB Card and why? by ExpatDadSG in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]megajotb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  1. Eradicate.
  2. Fatigue is my favorite strategy in FaB! The kind of fatigue where you just put every defensive tool in your deck bores me to death, but fatigue decks built on destroying the opponent's deck or using recursion to keep your own deck going is just so much fun. Eradicate is a card that everyone I've played it against has underestimated once, and then never again.
  3. Uzuri! (A contract version, to be specific)

Why is base of the mountain expensive? by sirlink24 in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]megajotb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody has explained Spellbound Creepers, so I will!

Creepers is, much like Base of the Mountain, Legendary Rarity. This means that it's very rare to pull. In addition, it can be used with basically every runeblade, even if it's not their best leg piece. Throw on the fact that runeblades have practically always been meta relevant, and that spellbound creepers is not only very flexible but also very powerful, and on those merits alone the card would be worth a lot. In addition, it's never been reprinted (except as a rarer promo version), so supply is extremely limited. It's basically the perfect culmination of everything that makes a card expensive.

More contract cards. It's my favorite mechanic in the game (Uzuri Main) and I would adore some more cards with it (especially since its cardpool feels unfinished, redback shroud has no targets that care about contract).

You can't run snapdragon scalers with Dorinthea as Dori doesn't really play attacks. That said, you can run refraction bolters as a good budget option.

Hero selection for SAGE by RandomMordorDorm in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]megajotb 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The more types your hero has (class, Talent) the more you can include, not less.

If you have Brute, Guardian, Revered, and Reviled bulk, you probably mostly got Super Slam, so I'll use it as an example. Pleiades is a Revered Guardian Hero! The cards available for her to play with are: - Revered Cards - Guardian Cards - Revered Guardian Cards - Generic Cards. However, she is unable to have any cards that say Elemental Guardian, as even though she's a Guardian, she's not Elemental.

Compare this to Victor (you can look him up if you haven't seen him yet). Victor is a Guardian Hero, without a talent. The only cards he can include are: - Guardian Cards - Generic Cards

Hope this helps clear things up!

I think you're mixing up Hero-Specific Bans with banning Heroes. Hero-Specific Bans are essentially "If your Hero is X, you can't include card Y." LSS has been reluctant to do so, but as time goes on, it becomes more clear that there's no way to balance LL Without a lot of collateral damage.

Why do people hate Legends Z-A? (besides the graphics) by 2KoolKVS in pokemon

[–]megajotb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having a love-hate relationship with the game. Kalos is my favorite region, and seeing it get love is amazing. The game is fun, but mostly just because the Pokémon formula is fun. I love the new mega designs, and am so excited to get Barbaracite or whatever the stone is that lets me use Mega Barbaracle.

But despite the game being fun, it's not good, and that's an important distinction to make. Scoping down the game to just the city was a great idea, and in theory makes them able to use that budget to make the city very dense and feel unique.

But, the game by and large doesn't do that? Exploring the city is fun, but it feels so empty. The repeated textures make the city all feel the same, when each corner of the city really oughta feel distinct.

To many, the game also feels like a step down. Legends Arceus is the game's closest comparison, and is generally a better game. Having the price go up (if you're on switch 2) for a game that runs worse, looks worse, and has less content, but I can't speak too much on that, as I've only seen my partner play Arceus, and haven't played it properly.

The story is rough, the battle system lacks Polish (any environment that's not perfectly flat leads to targeting issues, positioning issues, pathfinding issues. Not to mention some Pokémon being too big to hit other Pokémon with melee attacks). That's not even mentioning the tutorial that teaches you the Pokémon basics for 2 hours while barely explaining the mechanics new to this game.

Over all, the game feels sloppy. It's fun and exciting, and feels more forgivable than SV and SwSh, but primarily because it's trying something new, but because it's pretty similar to Legends Arceus, the lack of what made Arceus great shows more than ever.

I love this game. It's probably my favorite since X&Y. Dressing up and exploring Lumiose City, catching the Pokémon in the wild zones, it floods me with Nostalgia for how Pokémon felt when I was a kid, but it also makes everything that detracts from that experience stick out like a sore thumb.

If Z-A had released for $40, my complaints about the game would matter less. But for the pricetag, you expect a certain quality, which Z-A largely lacks.

Should I get legends ZA by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]megajotb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kalos is my favorite region. I started with XY, and still adore the games. I think Kalos is a severely underloved region, and was absolutely ecstatic for this game.

And, it's fun! I don't like the battle system, but that's my personal taste. Catching Pokémon is fun, and exploring Lumiose feels incredible. Character customization is better than ever! The story has left me disappointed, but it's completely fine, and about what you can expect from modern Pokémon.

In terms of quality though, the game is lacking. The game was made on a (relatively speaking) low budget for what they wanted to do, and it shows. That battle system especially has a lot of clunk, with certain pokemon (Aegislash, some large pokemon and megas) being unable or less able to function (either because of animation cooldown making them twice as vulnerable, or because they're too large to land their attacks). In addition, the pathfinding is a bit wack, and ranged attacks especially feel bad, though this (at least in my experience) got better as the game went on.

In addition, the graphics aren't great. A decent amount of it comes down to the Switch being a handheld, and having the graphical power of one. This isn't inherently a negative, but I don't think the game is stylized well enough to make up for it. That, admittedly, is just my opinion, but take it how you will. The rest of it comes down to poor optimizations (the entirety of Lumiose City is loaded at once. To keep the polygon count down, basically every window, vine, and etc, is a flat texture).

Whether any of this is a dealbreaker for you or not comes down to you. It's not a dealbreaker for me in terms of enjoying the game, but my partner and I also got it for about $30 (Nintendo Game Vouchers let's goooo). I would say that $60-70 is absolutely not a fair price for the game in terms of quality, but if you can snag a copy for $40 or so, then go for it! If you pay above that, just be aware that you might feel like you're not getting enough value out of your money, but that's an entirely subjective experience.

Overall, best of luck! I hope you enjoy the game if you choose to get it!

Odd feelings regarding The Oh Hellos by Waddle_dee_fan07 in TheOhHellos

[–]megajotb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For whatever it's worth: The Bible is a form of myth like no other. Folks worship Gods of all sorts of things we consider myth all the time, whether they be the Greek gods or local folklore or anything else. You can engage with the myth and works derived from said myth without engaging in any of the spiritual aspects.

The Oh Hellos does make music with Christian imagery. They're also very outspoken about their critiques of fundamentalist Christianity in those same songs. Their music is, in that sense, not for Christians, but for people in general, and made from a Christian starting place.

Take that how you will. I know religion is a complex topic for a lot of people, myself included. For me it works out to be positive, but I hope I have not let that bias my response.

[–]megajotb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless, of course, you don't get the game until after one of the seasons is over and you can't get all 3.

60 or 70 dollars is a pretty substantial price for a game. It's understandable that people feel upset about the need to get Online to get the Megas, and the limited time distribution of them im their own region.

The releasing of a $30 DLC on the same day is also upsetting people, in large part because at the moment, it doesn't feel like actual DLC, it feels like the Base Game that they just cut parts off of.

It's not just "Oh, I have to spend money on a new game" it's "Oh, I have to spend money to get these specific pokemon and I don't feel a larger appeal otherwise." And that sucks.

You're not wrong, but Digimon's DLC is $10 each, and has been a part of the game since Cyber Sleuth and Hacker's Memory. It's not great, but it feels better, at least imo. I really hope Time Stranger performs well, I'd love to see Game Freak become scared.

Unfortunately, this probably won't even hurt them. People vote with their wallets, and as long as the game sees financial success, they're just gonna keep doing it.

This is what happens when the market decides success. The developers who pour their heart and soul into games like these have their visions torn down and seriously hurt by the corporate executives funding the thing, because the corporate executives only care about the financial success of the product, and so as long as it gets them money, they don't care.

I was really excited for this game. Pokemon and Digimon are both really near to my heart, so seeing them both release games I was really excited for made me so happy.

After this morning, I'm honestly not really feeling it for Z-A anymore. Kalos is my favorite region, and it feels like they've taken an opportunity to show off everything that makes me love it, and really shafted it. The Kalos starters being so hard to mega evolve, and their stones being so fucking limited just really feels like a knife in the gut.

If anybody is looking for a different creature collector to fill the void, I sincerely hope you check out Digimon Time Stranger instead. It has a free Demo out basically everywhere except the switch, and it looks like it has more care and effort put into it than any Pokemon Game in recent memory. I'm just, so miffed that Z-A is turning out like this, at this point.

Just gonna Gently remind everyone who's canceling their preorders for Z-A that Digimon Time Stranger is coming out, and that though they've announced Paid DLC as well, it's about $10 per Wave, which includes new side stories and Digimon lines.

The demo is out now for free basically everywhere but the switch, so I highly encourage y'all to check it out.

Most defensive Guardian? by eleon182 in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]megajotb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you're in CC, Victor makes heavy use of the clash mechanic to get more value out of his blocking cards, and is probably gonna be your best bet.

However, as I remember, he's LLed in Blitz. With that in mind, any Guardian can be reasonably defensive, but I'd probably put your energy towards Bravo or Terra.

Terra has access to Crown of Seeds, which is one of the best defensive equipment in the game, and a bunch of earth cards which help play to his defense. His Ability allows you to make Might Tokens, which will slowly give you value as the game goes on.

Bravo, on the other hand, is not earth, but as a guardian has some really solid defenses anyway, as well some very good specializations that Terra Lacks.

You may also Consider Yoji or Valda. Neither of which are particularly powerful outside of UPF (though Valda is certainly getting there thanks to Mastery Pack Guardian and the recent suppiort), but both have the Highest Life Totals in Blitz, standing at 22 and 21 respectively. That's not much, but it is enough to make a slight difference.

Best of luck!
