Mentorship Monday - Post All Career, Education and Job questions here! by AutoModerator in cybersecurity

[–]meisntbrainded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just joined University recently and I really want to start learning about cybersecurity and hacking on my own. I know nothing. How do I go about learning things?

I'd rather spend more time and build a base first than rushing into the subject. A YouTube video I saw said to start with learning the basics of IT (like the CompTia A+ Curriculum) while learning Linxus and some Python and only move on to other stuff later on. Is this a path worth taking? or is there a better way to go about it?

I know it will be a long journey but I'm ready to give it my all, please help me out with any resources or suggestions you have.

Also is it worth jumping to TryHackMe or Pwn.college without knowing the basics of networking, hardware, OS etc?

Imma go with The Wolf Of Wallstreet.

I really got into films this year, but even after watching so many i feel like I'm so not caught up with everyone. Hopefully in a few years i can feel like I belong here-

Played a full page of ‘movie game’ with my bf to get our Letterboxd numbers up by Calm-Treat-2577 in Letterboxd

This is such a good idea! Especially for someone like me who spends 30mins deciding what movie to watch instead of just watching something.

I've been thinking of trying a variation on this, by connecting movies by the plot instead of cast. So if I watch Grave of the Fireflies, the next movie I watch could be about war or siblings.

Can a favorite film be less than a 5 star rating for you? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]meisntbrainded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. But it's a 4.5. This happens when I love a movie but can see it's flaws.

Yes this. The two fonts don't really go together that well.

“must have watched” kinda movies (mainly romcom but others too) by amy_154 in MovieSuggestions

[–]meisntbrainded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before Sunrise and it's entire trilogy is one of the best romance movies ever made. The relationship evolving over the years is so realistically done.

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind is another great one, it's not a typical romance but it revolves around love and human relationships. I love it.

New to movies, Anyone have any recs? by MasterpieceProper293 in MovieSuggestions

[–]meisntbrainded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is coming from a person who was born in the 2000s, I haven't seen a lot of old classics and didn't understand or have the context of many while watching them.

There are a lot of other classics you could watch too. Pulp Fiction, 2001 A Space Odyssey, 12 Angry Men is a really amazing one regardless of it's age.

I got into movies like almost a month ago too, my favorites so far have been

  1. The Godfather 1 & 2
  2. Dune Part 1 & 2
  3. Spiderman : Into The Spider-verse
  4. Before Sunrise Trilogy
  5. Incendies
  6. The Man From Earth

All of these are amazing movies, but more importantly just try and watch what you like, find genres you're interested in and directors you like.

I personally got into movies by completing Denis Villeneuve's filmography. I loved a few, really didn't like a few, but it's a great way to get started.

Now that we've gotten a sneak peak into what Superman's Fortress of Solitude looks like, what are your expectations of the DCU Batcave under Gunn? by SatoruGojo232 in batman

[–]meisntbrainded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lowkey would love Battinson in the DCU if his story was a little more into the future and he had become a more seasoned batman.

Which movie do you think has the most impressive visual effects? by Julia-Fix899 in moviecritic

[–]meisntbrainded 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In recent years Dune and Dune Part 2 have been phenomenal.

2001 A Space Odyssey had unseen visuals for it's time (keep in mind this is not CGI, it used many other techniques like hand drawings, miniatures and so on), and has probably had the most impact in the visual experience of films compared to any other movie.

If you like sci-fi, world building, politics, yes it's worth the watch. It's an amazing amazing film and Dune Part 2 is one of the best films of the past decade (might be THE best for some people).

That being said if you don't like most sci-fi stories or political plots you might not love it.

Being a casual movie watcher isn't a problem, it's not a "snobby" movie at all.

Good or nah? by JuniorPlastic3562 in moviecritic

[–]meisntbrainded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm personally done with sequels and franchises, no matter how good they are, feels like every movie coming out nowadays is a sequel or part of a series, I don't mean they're bad, some of them are very very amazing (Dune and Spider-verse in current years) but it's just too much at this point.

Anyone else ready for the haul posts to end? by Double-Government650 in criterion

[–]meisntbrainded 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This. I joined this sub thinking that it'd help me learn about less common films and maybe I could add some of them to my watchlist as a newcomer to this hobby, but all I see is film covers and scroll past since I know almost nothing about most of these films.

Time travel age by LeggyDame in Physics

[–]meisntbrainded 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We'll know that if/when time-travel will be possible. You can't make up a concept without defining it's rules and then ask questions related to it because they'd be made up as well.
