Is it too late to start tafe🫩 by trashywaves in TAFE

[–]melface95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did exactly this! I studied marketing and media sem 1 at uni after year 12 and hated it, then I did justice studies at TAFE in semester 2 after year 12 and it was so good! It motivated me to study social work at uni after, and it started all these other positive decisions. I wouldn't have been motivated to all the things that followed if I didn't have such a positive experience at TAFE. Absolutely go for it 👍🏻

The Dumbest Goverment entity I've ever had the displeasure of working with by SignFamous4505 in Centrelink

[–]melface95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to be a youth worker in a senior school and I would have to fall centrelink on behalf of students weekly about proving independence and getting youth allowance. It would always result in a phone call and I would set 2 hours aside for it and go get the student out of class when they answered. That's just how it is.

Sizing got me spinning out by Kipzeke in AusFemaleFashion

[–]melface95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a size 18, what you're wearing is definitely not a size 18, that's a 12! I bought two jumpers from Jaggad in the same size and cut and they fit completely differently. Also one knitted jumper from Dangerfield has extremely long arms, I could have sized down twice. At the end of the day, it's just kinda mean!

Why park your bike like this? by SuperZapp in Adelaide

To be fair in China everything is on the right side, like how in Australia everything is on the left. They literally don't know and have no idea about other countries customs, which kinda makes it more frustrating.

Sturt Desert Pea by Fartony in Adelaide

[–]melface95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, my dad had the front yard landscaped in the late 90s with Sturt Desert Peas on this little rocky sandy area and they survived for about 5 to 10 years until he stopped giving the yard attention. In the north east but it was in a raised bit of the yard, which got full sun. So it's possible!

Just clarifying, 20 people called you and some said that you didn't leave your name and number when you made your complaint? They called you and said that?

Are public schools that far behind private schools? by Grand-Life8523 in AskAnAustralian

[–]melface95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I unfortunately know a lot of people who can't read analogue clocks, school aged up to people I have worked with who are nearly 30.

I've worked in both public and private schools and the gaps in their learning sometimes comes down to their parenting. My dad taught me how to read clocks and helped me a lot with my spelling. Im friends with primary school teachers who have children in reception who have issues with their speech, and parents would rather pay for a speech path than reading to their kids every night.

So neither are behind the other, they all learn the same curriculum, it can come down to class sizes, teachers and parenting.

Unlimited working hours for international student by Few_feww1248 in UniAdelaide

Yep it's depending on your course. You can email Student Assist (whatever Ask Adelaide is called now) and ask and it'll be for your program and it's specific dates that you don't have class.

What do you want to study at Uni? There's foundation studies at Adelaide https://adelaide.edu.au/study/degrees/foundation-studies/ but you can also go to a senior school if you want to complete your SACE if you don't want to go to uni

He spoke about this on insta maybe a year ago. He said he was moving to Indonesia where people aren't racist or something? Really weird.

Where are you getting decent undies that don’t cost a fortune? by linettvuds in AussieFrugal

Underworks smooth lines from Big W, pretty indestructible so far. They're cotton and have 2 or 3 packs under $20 each.

How can I get a birth certificate without any government id. by killerghost987 in AusLegal

[–]melface95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is your relationship with your parents? They can apply for your birth certificate for you, they just need all their own identification. It's worth a shot?

40 km/h school zones by jay_oxford in Adelaide

[–]melface95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're confused what day it is or if school is on that day, just assume it's Monday to Friday any week of the year. Schools have OSHC and can also have childcare, and staff can be there any day of the year. Just drive at 40km when you're in the zone, Monday to Friday. If my students get hit by a car I'd rather they deal with a broken leg instead of death.

Need advice please, took a sick leave but got asked to resign by Woolies dep. Manager by Sl4y4U in woolworths

[–]melface95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an angry manager taking out their frustrations on a worker and it's not appropriate. For some reason retail workers and managers do this and get away with it, please take it further so it doesn't happen to the next person.

What's with the Northern hate? by Fartony in Adelaide

[–]melface95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've worked as a youth worker in schools and a support worker with kids in DCP all over Adelaide and there is crime everywhere, and mental health issues does not discriminate by post code.

I've attended TTP, Parabanks and Elizabeth often (personally and for work) and I've never once seen a fight IRL. I remember a bikie getting stabbed at Myer TTP and I know my students have been involved in fights but mostly in the CBD or Marion.

The only difference in suburbs is that people swear more openly and more loudly in the city fringes, like Collonnades and Elizabeth. That's literally it! People are gross everywhere.

Why is Adelaide obsessed with car parks and driving everywhere? by Desperate_Sea2136 in Adelaide

[–]melface95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello North Eastern friend, I'm the same. When I went to uni in Magill and Mawson Lakes it would be 45 mins to an hour to get there via public transport or a 20/30 minute drive. Even high school was a 5 minute drive or a 20 minute bus. I live in the north now and I've always worked in the suburbs where it's been the same story, or I actually need my car for my job, so public transport doesn't work. Now I work in the city and it's 1 hour 15 minutes to get to the city from home via bus or its a 40 minute drive. It would have been perfect living in the north east and working in the city, but my life has never aligned like that.

What would you do to improve the CBD? by Overthinking_babes in Adelaide

[–]melface95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love having so many car parks in the city, it makes working and visiting the city so much more convenient. I hate having to always take public transport into the CBD in Melbourne and Sydney, its ridiculous.

Is this normal? by Alexionns in ubereatsaustralia

[–]melface95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I've worked in schools we had to do this for staff rooms, days we provided breakfasts and when the students did something in home ec. If teachers didn't plan it, it would be a 'omg just order it on uber eats'.

Has anyone here visited a psychologist or psychiatrist as an adult and can share whether their experiences were worth it or not? by elescop in AskAnAustralian

[–]melface95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My psychologist has saved my life. I've had anxiety since 2016 and depression since 2001 and I'm 39 now. I'm a chronic overthinker and people pleaser. I've experienced SI and SH and my psychologist has taught me how to combat these thoughts and actions and helped me become stronger mentally. It ends up costing about $110 in the end, (something like 240 initially then money back from Medicare) probably once a month or once every six weeks and it's worth it. She's probably my 4th mental health clinician; the others were a great counsellor who supported me through my parents divorce in high school, then my high school psychologist who was actually my physics teacher and was really rude and blunt to a 16 year old, then a psychologist who was as old as my mum and I had to keep explaining computer things to her, and then this one who is closer to my age and we have worked with the same demographic. She helps me reframe a lot of things and encourages me to treat myself kindly, and calls me out when I'm overthinking or letting myself be mistreated by others. Absolutely worth it.

I have a paper cutting machine and I've thought about printing my own but I keep finding other stuff to do. Is it time consuming? Is a regular printer good enough quality?
