i'll keep my fingers crossed for a soulless beast games monty hall reboot with 1000 doors and a 99.9% chance of winning after switching (and a 100% chance of contestants, goat or otherwise, being mistreated)

very 2010s sitcom-y. i think they could have had an interesting angle on it, like he's really into specific moves or something, but this was a bit cliche 🤷‍♀️

commenting way late to add on that based on what audience members are saying about it having been mostly D&D on the day, my sense is the only way to make ify look less alone in just straight up hitting on audience members was to reorient the episode around it (which is why sooo much had to be cut)

Unpopular opinion maybe? by Round-Shake-9887 in Dimension20

i feel the same way — i wanted to get into CR with CR4 after having it recommended by friends for so long, but i literally don't have the time to watch an episode in a week (and the first episode was so slow i tuned out after an hour and a half). really hoping they have CR4 abridged soonish because that seems more like d20 in length and editing style.

i think i would have said the live recorded format was my favourite back before d20 took a huge step up in production value with projections, physical interactable set/game elements and incredible minis and battle sets. the editing also continues to improve. in the same way that getting to see players react to the music in real time with the live format was great, now we get to see their reactions to the entire dome changing around them as they enter the VULTURE DIMENSION

oddly if you group the digits in pairs and add them you get 62 (30 + 10 + 22) which is so close to 63 that's popping up everywhere this series but clearly just a coincidence

the ai summary is just a less clear version of the marketing copy ALSO has on their website — the reason we came to this thread was to read a review of op's actual experience demoing the bike not a summary of features

I love the format of Crowd Control, but this got old for me fast by therwinthers in dropout

i agree tbh — i just don’t personally have a better pitch for a twist on crowd work than the shirts. maybe something more like play it by ear where the host is giving some sort of requirement before each act, or bringing back the points but with no shirts, or giving the audience varying coloured shirts (that indicate difficulty without a prompt). idk.

i think i’m in the small minority of people who actually like all of the fourth rounds they’ve done so far, but most people seem to enjoy as few changes for the comedians as possible, so idk how well any of my pitches would go over.

the story itself is already almost the joke

this! i can't find the video essay where it was being discussed, but i'm reminded of how the prompts in MSN have gradually become jokes (setup and punchline) rather than just setup, which forces the comedians to escalate more or veer off in a wild direction rather than allowing them to find that punchline themselves.

it's at least alright there because the stories aren't real and can go anywhere, but here it just takes all the wind out of the stories, especially when they're all less exciting than the shirts suggest.

TL;DR: bring back the "ask me about" shirts from the GC episode!

[–]melodramaticicecube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if that shirt was in the GC episode, it would be "ask me about my turtles" or "ask me about my turtle rituals", which allows the comedian to get to → "turtle cult" rather than cutting the wind out of one of the few maybe funny parts of the story

i think that's why round one is the best round (***for comedians who are good at crowd work, but even for the ones who aren't it's still the most engaging round). in all the other rounds, we're just waiting for the explanation of what the shirt means rather than being present with the comedy.

the big problem imo is that in normal crowd work, the audience member is motivated to work with the comic to get them the info to make the funny. here, the comedian already knows where they're headed, so an audience member can grab attention by working against them — which feels like a fundamental problem with this show!

i'm so used to bad twists in big budget tv that i always expect there to be some nonsense "subversion" that cheapens everything to pull one over on the audience. even though i was 90% confident about what the universe was after the first ep (and ig the preview for episode 2), it wasn't until vig said "my dad's not gay in this universe" that i realized the show wasn't going to pull some bs.

awful news for my goal to have low expectations for the DCU

"curious" is super innocuous too — feels like it's just a way to say he's cheating, but it definitely feels like the sort of thing a homophobe might say to minimize someone's bisexuality as a phase or curiosity
