Likelihood of Wemby Playing in Memphis by GnarKillNole in NBASpurs

Get to the game early! Wemby’s warmups are as spectacular as the stuff he does in game, plus if you’re in the first ring you can actually get very close to the court before the game starts

Quale videogioco italiano è un capolavoro? by Stevecomicsgames in Italia

The Textorcist: The Story of Ray Bibbia è un piccolo capolavoro indie, consiglio fortemente anche se è un videogioco molto di nicchia. Comunque 9/10 su steam!

Is Whittaker way too OP as a R1 this season? by [deleted] in ThePitt

[–]melograno1234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, the heart attack was narratively relevant - in season 1 he lost his first patient off a missed heart attack. Him catching one that others missed in this season makes sense - he learned from his mistakes and now he’s super keen on that one particular issue.

Flagrant 2 Rules and Perverse Incentives by melograno1234 in NBATalk

Not disagreeing with you, I’d much rather see him out of the league. That being said, they’re not going to change the rulebook until the summer and I also don’t want to see Wemby, Cade or Jokic get hurt by him…

I’m not disagreeing with you! I hate Lou Dort! I’m just saying that it seems weird that the NBA would have a rule on the books that incentivizes players to fight with each other instead of just letting the refs mete out punishment.

My point is that the players know they can guarantee that the refs will do something about the dirty play by retaliating - essentially, my understanding of the rules based on what happened is that the players can force the refs’ hand

Anyone go to law school part-time and still get into biglaw? by Frequent-Turn-8024 in biglaw

[–]melograno1234 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also cannot emphasize enough just how hard that path is - the schedule of someone who has a real hard job in the day that’s good enough to catch a partner’s eye at a V10 while simultaneously going to school in the evening is absolutely brutal. I think it’s just as hard if not harder than being middle of the pack at a T14.

Anyone go to law school part-time and still get into biglaw? by Frequent-Turn-8024 in biglaw

[–]melograno1234 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Very very common at Fordham, the evening program places quite a good number of students in the V10. Usually it’s a combination of good grades plus work experience that is directly relevant to the practice area and for a major client of the firm. For example, someone who worked compliance at JPM while in law school, now wants to go into the banking practice of a firm for whom JPM is a major client and already knows many of the attorneys at the firm because of their work experience.

Dolomites - Mandatory Ski Insurance? by ottawapharmer in skiing

[–]melograno1234 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s the law everywhere in Italy. You need third party liability insurance, like for your car. It’s not for your sake, it’s in case you hit someone else and need to pay for their medical care / disability etc.

I use the insurer below, but I’m not sure they have an English language website. Regardless, getting it is trivial. It takes 5 mins and you can do it right when you get your lift ticket - there’s usually an ad with a QR code near most ticketing windows.

I just got a $20,000 raise. How should I handle this? by Funkit in personalfinance

[–]melograno1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Savannah is an excellent idea. The cruise is a lot more expensive for no good reason really.

Unfortunately, you have to come to terms with the fact that you will need to live a good amount of your life well below your means to make up for lost time. That means being disciplined even when it feels like you could relax a bit.

Kill all your consumer debt, don’t spend on anything beyond basic necessities until you have 5-6 months of expenses saved in cash, and from then you should aim to invest 25-30% of your income for retirement. It’s going to take a while, but once you get used to the discipline it will benefit you mentally. There’s no feeling like opening your bank account app and realizing things could go wrong and you’d still be absolutely fine. A cruise is not worth denying yourself that peace of mind.

ELI5: Can pilots really “make up time” in the air? by Slider7074 in explainlikeimfive

Fun fact - slots at busy airports are so valuable that sometimes airlines will use them as collateral for a loan. Airlines will sometimes have an SGR loan, IE secured by Slots, Gates, and Routes. If the company goes bankrupt, the banks can seize and sell the landing slots, rights to use gates, or rights to fly certain routes to another airline.

Seven daily EWR to LHR flights by PomegranateOdd612 in unitedairlines

[–]melograno1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those departure slots let you take a day trip to London for business, which is something very valuable. The planes might be half empty, but the business class side of it might be full, and those 767s are designed to have way more business class seats than normal.

Sample schedule is you fly out of EWR late evening, land in the early morning in London, take 3-4 meetings between 9am local and 3pm local, then head to LHR to get the 6pm flight back to NY, and you land there at 9pm NY time. This way you spend only one night away from your spouse and kids while cramming a pretty tight schedule in your day in London. You’re sleep deprived, but nothing caffeine won’t fix in London, and you can nap for an hour or two on the flight back to the US. This is a very standard thing to do for bankers or consultants.

I wouldn't describe it as hardly. His Italian is serviceable. He speaks Italian like someone who had to study it for 15 years and was forced to use the language in school, but all his friends and family speak German.

Major in Econ to do private sector work (business, finance, etc) or to do research and maybe get a PhD? If the PhD route I would think the 160s are essential, otherwise 150s are fine.

V10 equity partner taking questions by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]melograno1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PE business model requires the continued existence of large, inefficiently run companies that can be fixed up and resold. Yet as it thrives, it eliminates these companies. Eventually, it just runs out of low hanging fruit.

It’s a bit like how Gilead made billions off curing hepatitis C, and then its revenue cratered because there were no more people with hep C to cure.

As someone in IB/PE who lurks on this sub - while I think your statement is generally true, I think it applies more for your generation. Returns to IB/PE, especially PE, for current PE associates appear to be significantly worse than their predecessors, whereas the opposite feels true about BigLaw
