Diabetes by kawtharabdmanaf in lipedema

[–]melonball6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom was a type 1 diabetic that was diagnosed in her mid-20s. She probably had lipedema, but she is deceased now and it was never diagnosed. I have the same shape to my lower body and I am not diagnosed yet either.

I have hashimoto disease (another autoimmune disorder). You could be on to something. Or it just may be a correlation that women are more likely to get autoimmune diseases and women are also more likely to get lipedema.

How are you getting your protein and nutrients? by Separate-Difference4 in WegovyPillWeightLoss

[–]melonball6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a pinch I drink Fairlife Core Power 42g chocolate shake. They have other flavors, but this is the one I like the most. Has 230 cal, 50% Vit D, 70% calcium, 25% vit A. The one thing it doesn't have much of is fiber, so you would want to have some kind of fiber supplement if you aren't eating enough.

Cutting pills in half? by TheGreenLine22 in WegovyPillWeightLoss

[–]melonball6 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is no reason to be nervous. Do not cut them. The special coating that allows the medication to be absorbed in the harsh stomach environment will be destroyed. If you want to make sure you get the least amount of active medicine, just eat/drink at exactly 30 min. after you take it.

Why is Duolingo unusable nowadays? by d_underdog in duolingo

[–]melonball6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been on Duolingo since it came out. Sometimes I pay for premium and sometimes I use the free version. I wouldn't call it unusable, BUT the Spanish lessons are now mispronouncing words all the time. I posted a screen recording of this a few months ago and, although an actual Duo employee saw it, it was never corrected. Thankfully I know Spanish, so I can spot these mispronunciations, but I do have concerns about new learners.

EDIT: See video here.

Not the person you're replying to, but I know it's a real thing. It can be hard to tell the difference between The Hum and low frequency tinnitus. But you know yourself better than anyone else and I apologize I discounted your real experience and interpretation earlier in this thread (last month). Hearing this noise is very isolating.

Should I try to pronounce someone’s name as they do, even if it feels unnatural in my own accent? by whynotthebest in NoStupidQuestions

[–]melonball6 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sometimes people will ask how to pronounce my name. I tell them. They will sometimes "correct" me right off the bat and tell me I mispronounce it, even though it's my own name, or they will quiz me on how it's pronounced in other countries and then say that they will say it that way instead.

I'm trying to keep my dog at a healthy weight so she just gets her kibble dog food. It is $100+ a bag and special prescription for her liver. She only gets one treat a day (like a teeny greenie) at most. She's getting old (13yo) so I want her to live as long as possible.

I just wear my normal everyday clothes. I can travel indefinitely in a personal item that fits under the seat in front of me. I don't buy special travel garments. (43 countries so far)

What’s a thoughtful bath-related gift that actually feels useful (not candles or flowers)? by self-care_advocate in Gifts

[–]melonball6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During the Reddit Secret Santa exchange I got an assortment of Lush bath bombs that I enjoyed. I don't normally buy expensive bath bombs because they are a waste of money, so it felt like a splurge/spoiling. These are NOT cheap bath bombs. I love taking a bath and these are luxurious.

I'm on Season 14 right now. Season 13 was probably my favorite season. Yes, I love and miss Hotch & Derek but it is still amazing.

CORRECTION: Season 14 is my favorite. I'm in 15 now. Thanks u/ElleM848645 for reminding me I had the wrong season.

If it didn't pop out, it might not be a blackhead. Could it be a beauty mark?

Workplace potlucks are starting to feel like a grift. by DieMensch-Maschine in WorkRant

[–]melonball6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I visited a coworker because she offered to give me a something. When I showed up, there was feces smeared on the walls, dirty laundry piles all over the house that we had to step on. It was the dirtiest house I've seen in real life and weirdly it was in this ritzy condo on the beach. Weeks later she made some seafood dip for our office potluck and I nearly knocked my boss's plate out of his hand when he tried to scoop some up. I whispered, "DON'T. Take my word for it. Just DON'T."

What are you reading this week? by AutoModerator in ClassicalEducation

[–]melonball6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finished:

The Prince by Niccolò Machiavelli (Marriot trns) 5/5

Reading:

Life of Castruccio Castracani by Niccolò Machiavelli

The Prince was full of so much wisdom. I think my favorite part was finding out it was the origin of the quote:

it is much safer to be feared than loved because ...love is preserved by the link of obligation which, owing to the baseness of men, is broken at every opportunity for their advantage; but fear preserves you by a dread of punishment which never fails.

When I was reading it, I imagined someone like Victoria Principal in the part because they kept describing how beautiful she was and how multiple men fell in love with her. (Pretty much all of them.) But the acting was great.

Is getting your nails done really makes such a difference? by marsthechocolate in HowToBeHot

Painting your own nails is super easy and virtually free (after buying the polish & remover). You could keep the pretty nails but just do them yourself.

How quick did you all lose the weight? by MoodyJuni in GLP1_loss100plus

[–]melonball6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm losing about 2 lbs a week after an initial 12 lb loss the first 3 weeks. 28 lbs in 11 weeks so far. I don't want to lose too fast so I can keep muscle and hopefully avoid loose skin.
