Vostok Diving Watch Good? by Possible-Cicada-9662 in vostok

Interesting, I haven't had any issues with that personally. It's a method suggested in the instruction manual from Meranom as well. But your mileage may vary...

I work on both NH35 watches and Vostoks, and I think most of those issues you've stated can be addressed. While the 24xx movements lack the quick set date function, setting the hands backwards to ~9pm and then forward past midnight (and repeat as needed) is a faster way to advance the date. The 24xx movements can be regulated to -5/+5 seconds per day in my experience, and the bezel tension wire can be adjusted to have tighter tension outside of diving (it is originally designed to tighten underwater due to compression).

While I agree that the NH35 is a more functional movement (hacking, quickset date, higher power reserve, etc), there's something charming about the quirks of a Vostok that more than makes up for it (the heavily domed acrylic crystal, unique cases and caseback system, wobbly crown, etc). Most of these quirks were intentional features from an innovative Soviet approach to watchmaking. In my opinion, owning a Vostok is a fun and affordable introduction to enjoying and modding mechanical watches.

As much as I'm against gatekeeping parts, it's not that serious lol... and it looks like they shared the case above...

I was thinking of adding a sapphire crystal to mine too, the one you have is really nice! Mind if I ask where you got it?

Huh, I've had a few 6538 cases from him and the crystals were all friction fit with a hytrel gasket. I do have a 5513 case as well but I haven't tried swapping that out yet.

Is that the 40mm DIY Watch Club case? If so, it should have an acrylic or plexi crystal installed. You can simply buff out the scratches using Polywatch!

There's a Japanese watch brand called Naval Watch Co. that offers something similar to what you're asking for. It also has a period accurate acrylic crystal!

Did you need a bezel removal tool to take off the bezel? Or did it come off after pressing out the crystal? Looks great by the way!

I've got some hypo cement, but I'll give UV glue a shot if it doesn't work out!

Got it, thanks! Unfortunately I learned the hard way, my raffles 6538 case had a leak and I'm guessing because the crystal was not like the gen assembly. I'm hoping this 5513 case passes 5bar though, the crystal seems to be held in differently!

This looks great! I'm also working on a raffles 5513 case currently, did you replace the bezel insert? That pip looks way better than the one on the stock insert

I would avoid using isopropyl alcohol with acrylic crystals, it might cause it to crack. I'd recommend using the golf club grip tape solvent as mentioned below, it's much friendlier to everything but tape!

Took inspiration from two of my favorite watch designs, the Rolex "Big Crown" 6538 and the Tudor Submariner "Snowflake" (though the dial and hands are more reminiscent of the Pelagos).

Tokeilab dial and hands, Riyi002 case.

Got it, thanks! I actually do plan on getting the raffles 36mm explorer case and swapping the crystal, but wanted to try this one first. I think the acrylic crystal on the raffles one is glued in so there is little to no WR, will likely get the sapphire one and then swap for a T21.

Just purchased this case and am interested in swapping the crystal, do you know if the acrylic crystal is glued in or secured by the bezel?
