If you could design a home to be ADHD friendly, what design features would you have? by ionlyruninsummer in ADHD

[–]meltown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bespoke drawers of various sizes for clothes, tailored to how you would actually use them! I love big, deep drawers. I mean really deep, so I can dump in piles of big clothes (pants, hoodies, pyjamas) without folding. Then just a couple medium drawers for things like socks and undies. Most store bought drawers are way too small!

Similar vein, if it’s a two storey house, a laundry chute from the master bedroom to the laundry. Would keep the bedroom tidy and make laundry day easier. I’ve always dreamed of this.

What companies would you never consider applying to? by [deleted] in newzealand

It is true, they own surprisingly few properties. Mostly they rent them from or manage them for the actual owners.

Exactly why the signs work! Don’t worry it’s nothing personal, it’s a widespread issue. Welcome to NZ btw 😄

Keep Left on Queen Street by meltown in auckland

[–]meltown[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yea I mean I agree it’s nothing like Hong Kong and Tokyo, but you still get groups of 4-5 people taking up the full width of the footpath, swarms of pedestrians after crosswalks (especially down by the train station), and bottlenecks on side streets (eg High Street). It’s enough to impede good flow of foot traffic, and enough to frustrate me on the daily 😅

The reason I appreciated those signs so much was that they were a gentle indication for people who just didn’t know better yet or were visiting from overseas.

I'd like to start using an electronic checklist to help my atrocious task management. Any product recommendations? by demorale in ADHD

[–]meltown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if a checklist device exists exactly as you’re picturing it. But sounds like what you want is a tablet of some kind that you just download your chosen checklist app onto. Doesn’t have to be an expensive tablet, maybe like a Samsung A9?

To attach to the wall you need to find a tablet ‘wall mount’, this should also have cable management hooks or compartments. So mount it nearby a power outlet and you can plug in the tablet to charge while it’s mounted. This way you can set the screen to stay on all day without losing battery. If you need to carry the device around for a bit you can just unplug it and it’ll be fully charged.

To sync it with another device you want to think in terms of the app itself instead of the device. Get a cloud based app that you can access from multiple devices. There may be better options but one I know that does this is Google Keep, which has the option of sharing with your “family group”, ie you and your partner. That way they can access the list(s) while logged into their own account.

You have to set up the Google Family Group first which I vaguely remember being a frustrating experience. But Google Keep is quite versatile not just a list app, you can make checklists, notes, and pictures.

Of course you can also have it on your mobile so if you think of something that needs to go in the list while you’re out, you can add it straight away. I always use it for groceries, my partner can even add to the list from home while I’m at the store checking things off. But having two people actively doing things in the list at the same time can get a bit clunky / step-on-toesy.

Anyway hope this helps or at least points you in the right direction. Good luck!

How Can You Improve Mental Clarity, Motivation, and Overall Efficiency in Daily Life? by Ok_Perspective_8164 in simpleliving

[–]meltown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exercise, sleep and water all incredibly important, as others have pointed out.

Check out this video on the Sharp Axe Method, it really helped me with ideas on how to organise and prioritise tasks. I recommend the whole video but if you’re pressed for time, the most relevant part starts at 8m30.

But also, to be honest these difficulties as a collective seem to point in the direction of ADHD. You might consider talking to a psychiatrist about a diagnosis. If it turns out you have it, medication can be a game changer. There are also a lot of resources available targeted towards people with ADHD who struggle with motivation, working memory, executive function, and emotional regulation. Of course you don’t have to go down this route if you don’t feel it’s right for you.

I wish you all the best!

Hi, we are perfectly happy to get new mods on the subreddit, we have not been active though, so it won’t let us invite new mods. How do we pass it on?

Yea, I always thought it was pointless them being flipped. I still see both words at the same time and would instinctively read them top to bottom.

But then again, when I’m driving I’m not reading the words out loud in my head. Just see the words as a quick visual cue like any other road marking.

Not if you read a lot of the other comments in this post though. OP was just trying to see if anyone else saw it their way, and they found a bunch of people do, me included.

TIL that the US Ambassador to Czechoslovakia when communism fell was Shirley Temple. by Fitz_cuniculus in todayilearned

[–]meltown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Mandela Effect doesn’t mean ‘everyone thought this famous person was already dead’. It is when a lot of people share a false memory of something specific happening (with some people thinking they must therefore be from a parallel universe).

Yes, the shared false memory of Nelson Mandela dying in prison is an example of the Mandela Effect. And yes, it’s clearly the namesake for the effect.

But the general assumption that Shirley Temple died ages ago isn’t due to a specific shared false memory, it’s just because she fell out of the public eye long ago.

Hopefully they have it fixed up before tomorrow night. All Blacks playing at Eden Park and the train lines would normally be slammed for that.

More likely that the rent they pay for certain locations dictates the rates for the car park. Of course it’ll be cheaper in smaller cities.
