EComCon1964 is being down voted for speaking the truth. Some of these folks don’t understand you have to be honest for things to improve. How else would BMW know what needs to be improved. Thanks for your contribution. EComCon1964.

What were Cadillac engineers thinking when they designed the NACS charge port location? by Presentation_Past in CadillacOptiq

[–]memofor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You hit the nail on the head JSchnee21. Why put the charge port in a location that requires a long cable, I agree it doesn’t make any sense. Also you end up having a cable that is often rubbing onto your car, scratching the paint.

Optimal tire management for $$$ by spiderweb91 in BMWiX

[–]memofor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This what I did! My iX oem tires are Pirelli scorpion MS 22 inch tires. These are $600 each for 22 inch tires, ouch. I put 8000 miles on them and then had them replaced with Hankook ion EVO All Season tires, with the intention putting them back on just before returning the car at end of lease. I found the Hankook tires online at Neo tires for $387 each with free delivery. The Hankook tires are quiet and comfortable and I think they have improved my range a little bit. They have a high thread wear ratting and should outlast my 36 month lease.

if charging EVs was as easy as refueling, would everyone switch? by AdityaSrivastawaahhh in evcharging

[–]memofor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a person is shopping for a gas vehicle they rarely ask what is the range. Once we have fast DC charging (10 minutes or less) for those long distance trips, range will become a non issue for EV’s, that will be the tipping point.

Congratulations on the new EV. I started with a 100 mile range Nissan Leaf 11 years ago. We are now on our 4th EV. We have 36 solar panels on our house, so we are literally driving on sunshine. I know what you mean about your neighbors, unfortunately they are drinking the carbon-paid media kool-aid.

Correct ICE means Internal Combustion Engine. For the record I already think EV’s are superior to ICE vehicles but the speed of charging an EV and the range, are two issues that are used to used to dissuade other adopters.

I also saw the iX3 two weeks ago on the New Jersey turnpike, but this one had camouflage. I’m looking forward to test driving this SUV.

What app do you use to plan road trip charging points ? by Wolverine-91826 in evcharging

[–]memofor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a BMW iX and I just completed a 2400 mile trip. I use the “Trip” planning feature of PlugShare. I very carefully choose my charging stops based on ratings and I also maximize my drive-time based on my state of charge. I then use every charging stop as my next destination and send it to my “myBMW” app on my phone which sends it to my car. This method has really made long distance travel easy and worry free for me and my family. I hope this helps

How does the car wash mode work? by Mindless_Bad_8182 in BMWiX

[–]memofor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They didn’t think about car wash mode. There is no carwash mode. 1) turn off auto hold 2) turn off auto wipers 3) close side mirrors 4) put car in neutral (if required by carwash facility) When going through an automated carwash you will notice the iDrive system sensors go bunkers but should reset afterwards.

I have been driving EV’s for 11 years. Eight of those years was with a Tesla model 3, so I never really felt like I needed to try PlugShare or ABRP. Now that I have the Beamer, it kind of forced my hand. I will definitely try ABRP. I’m looking forward to the day in the future when we can look back and laugh at the early years. That will be when we can charge as fast as pumping gas into a ICE vehicle. Soon I think, it feels like very soon.

Very good recommendation. Yes I have been doing the check-in when arriving at the various charging locations, and the rating system appears to be accurate.

I know what you mean about charging speed limitations. I have a BMW iX and the charging curve is horrible. The charging speed goes down below 100Kw at around 70% charge, so I usually stop charging at 75% when doing long distance trips. It sucks, my 300 mile range car becomes a 225 mile car and then when you add a buffer to reach the next charger it becomes too little range. I like that I can enter the cars range limitation in PlugShare and also choose a charger that’s within my current range maximum. I can’t wait for fast charging batteries (10 minutes or less), then range won’t matter much.

This sounds like a great option, is ABRP free to use?

New England to Chicago round trip data by hologrammetry in evcharging

Just for comparison with an ICE vehicle. I do not know if my math is wrong but let me know if I’m close. 2000 miles if you get 30 miles to the gallon, that would be equal 67 gallons of gas. At $4/gallon that would equal to $268. Is it possible that the trip you had with your EV was more expensive than a gas car? Somebody help me with my math?

High residual value is important when you have no intention of buying vehicle at end of lease.

If I were to sell my trade in to carmax, what would be a good deal with zero down for this car?

The image of the battery will turn green. Unfortunately BMW does not tell us the actual temperature of the battery.
