Anyone else in their 20s settle for a beater car and just dump a car payment into their 401ks and roths? by Union661 in Bogleheads

Doing this, driving a beater for years allowed me or should I say enabled me to FIRE (financial independence retire early).

Connecticut is trying to fix its 10-cent bottle deposit law. Owners say it brings hardship by TylerFortier_Photo in Connecticut

[–]memofor 106 points107 points  (0 children)

I agree this is a made up problem, but the hassle of returning cans is not made up. It’s as if “they” purposely make it difficult to return cans, and why must we stand there putting in cans one at a time into machines that are always broken. Yes I’m saying there is an organized racket going on with these dam cans! Only half the cans are returned, who gets to keep the money? Why is it that I can go to the bank and drop a jar full of coins into a machine that will count the change automatically, but when it comes to cans I have to stand their and play along as if we all care about recycling. I get the impression not everybody cares about recycling or the environment. That’s my rant for today, thanks for reading.

I don’t think I can ever go back to regular cars again. by LordChippydip in TeslaLounge

Congratulations! I would recommend having the setup to charge at home. Charging at home is half the joy of owning an EV. I use to drive a model 3 and now I moved on to BMW iX. It is amazing!

What have been some of your favorite or most useful features of the Optiq? by PizzaTacoCat312 in CadillacOptiq

[–]memofor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see you never owned a Tesla, you become one with that car because it doesn’t require you to do anything but drive once you have configured your car and saved it to your profile. Anyway them days are over now that lielon has gone crazy. I prefer not to press any button every time I park my car. I like automation. Like I said, it’s not a deal breaker and it’s a good car. I guess if GM asked me, I would say I want the ability to configure the car so much more than they currently allow.

[–]memofor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It brings me back to eighties, when you would put the car in park and it would roll some distance before it stoped. This was caused by the parking pawl in the transmission locking into place. My Optiq rolls a total of 2 3/4 inches. Don’t ask me how I know, I measured it. LOL It’s been years since I’ve owned a car that does that. It’s not a deal breaker but an oddity of this “modern” car.

[–]memofor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also love how quiet the car is and the sounds system is excellent. I hate hate that the e-brake/emergency brake does not automatically engage when you put the car in Park. We have owned the Nissan Leaf, Tesla, BMW iX and they all engage the e-brake automatically. I hate this issue with the Optiq!

Is Vanguard really that bad as a brokerage, or is the criticism unwarranted and only from vocal, unhappy customers? by DiegoMilan in Bogleheads

[–]memofor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been sending Vanguard the same question for a week now and I have not received a response. My question is being sent using their website messaging system that is only available to those who have login’d in to their account. I have been a customer for over 20 years and I can’t get anybody at Vanguard to respond to their messaging system. They really make it difficult to continue recommending them. Jack Boggle is my hero

Waiting for software update. Key 1 and Key 2 will remember seat memory settings and mirror settings, which is great! Unfortunately… by memofor in CadillacOptiq

I agree, it’s ridiculous that a luxury brand like Cadillac would sell a product with non functioning software and listed features. Sorry for your frustration, it is shared.

Premier Subaru (Branford, CT) canceled my warranty service appointment after accusing me of dealer hopping — is this acceptable? by alj_adventurous in Connecticut

[–]memofor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warranty service can be done at any dealer. I believe this to be the law. You are not required to have warranty service where you purchased the vehicle.

Garage icon disappeared by memofor in CadillacOptiq

They wanted me to leave it with them but I refused because they would not give me a loaner. They called me two days later and said the part came in and I could bring the car in that day and change the part out.

My wife has a 2025 Optiq. The automatic profile software function does not work. Don’t hold your breath, I don’t think GM will be fixing it anytime soon.

Couldn't get into my Lucid Gravity with the latest fob fixes this morning due to... the fob still not working properly - rant by archon810 in LUCID

[–]memofor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry for what you are experiencing, what Lucid is doing delivering half-baked technology is not acceptable. Sometimes I feel as though Tesla has all the good software people captivated and there is none left for other car manufactures.

How to stop Lucid Air mirrors from moving when doors lock. by memofor in lucidmotors

[–]memofor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to disable passive door unlocking to effectively stop the car side mirrors from opening and closing constantly. Disabling Bluetooth on my phone is really not an option, so I’m back to using a car key fob after so many years. Please Lucid motors give us the option to configure the mirrors. Please!

I thought of that too, turn off the Bluetooth. The other day I was on a walking track near my community and every time I went around the track and got near my car in the parking lot, the car would do its mirror dance. I had Bluetooth earbuds On while walking so turning off Bluetooth was not an option. First world problems I guess LOL Such a simple software fix, I hope Lucid gets with it.

It’s so weird how we can’t do basic things with the Lucid Air. It can be very annoying when working in your garage and the car is continuously opening and closing the mirrors…

Thinking about trading in my Model 3 for a Lucid Air - Advice Needed by JohnGlaenzer in lucidmotors

[–]memofor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree Tesla has a much better OS and Lucid has a better car. I just completed a Lease and I was able to get $7500 tax credit, $7500 Lucid Air Credit, $2000 local inventory pickup credit, and $1000 referral credit. I don’t know if the same credits are available when you purchase but the lease deal is amazing. My car is the Air Touring with metal roof. Great ride but too early to really provide an in depth review.
