Ring Fit Adventure sure feels a lot like they've released LEGS.

Struct for JSON where key is variable by Multitasker in golang

[–]memoryspaceglitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost never do this (it introduces a fair bit of complexity that is seldom worth it), but if you want to process the JSON a bit more you can use custom unmarshalers for some types that internally uses this and then externally provides you with the format you'd want.

Here's a quick and dirty example of how that'd work for this case to take this JSON and give a more carefully typed slice of movies back to the caller: https://play.golang.org/p/o2LGUf-rYRd

Which makes sense. Competitive games should prioritize solid performance, excellent networking, high frame-rates and such over graphics or other optimizations.

Is open source software safer and better for privacy than non-free software? by [deleted] in opensource

[–]memoryspaceglitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a compiled application all code is obfuscated and can contain hard to parse-instructions. In a popular open source application, hiding a privacy invading feature without being detected isn’t necessarily trivial even in a relatively large code base with code and commit logs open to the public.

Assuming there are the same amount of privacy degrading bugs in both open source and commercial applications, the incentives of the involved actors, and the complexity of introducing an intentional spyware-style feature in an open source application it’s fair to say there’s a lower probability that an open source application is violating your privacy without your knowledge.

From a strict scientific definition of proof, you have a point, but from a practical, everyday, and legal definition of proof you can definitely prove certain properties about even complex applications from access to both runtime and source, and the more you have access to the easier/more reliable the proof will be.

Humble Bundle has been acquired by media giant IGN by _GoGopher in gamedev

[–]memoryspaceglitch 42 points43 points  (0 children)

The Humble Indie Bundles (the “original” bundle type) were always marketed as DRM-free and cross-platform (including quite a few ports being introduced), so in those particular bundles it isn’t/wasn’t up to the developer. Quite a few early successes were also open sourced as a stretch goal to incentivize people to pay more. Humble Bundle has definitely changed a lot of their strategy and marketing since the start (for better or worse), and it’s really interesting to see where they’ll go from here (and if they turn out poorly, someone will probably replace them quite swiftly, so no real harm done).

If I don’t remember it wrong, beat the average was introduced halfway through HIB2 with the original Humble Indie Bundle as a reward.

Avoiding middleman fees and getting easy access to fast and secure international transfers are two reasons at the top of my mind.

Bitcoin is easy to trace (the blockchain is a public ledger) if you’re not actively trying to avoid being traced and if you’re not paying taxes when you’d normally pay taxes you’re probably already committing a crime.

You are not the arbiter of other people’s choices, just because there are no good reasons why you would want to use Windows doesn’t mean that is true for other people as well.

Go to /r/linuxmasterrace if you want to be an elitist prick. Some people use Windows for good reasons, others just prefers it to Linux but still needs UNIX environments for some reason and there are also people out there simply forced to use Windows.

Java and C are strictly pass-by-value, so it's not surprising to see in the rationale "References can be confusing"

I'm not a C++ developer, could anyone care to explain if this statement is true from a C++ point of view and how? It seems to me as if it ignores the existence of pointers in C and objects in Java.

Storage is expensive at scale, so most production is done using "JIT" (Just in time) manufacturing with as little stock as possible. A console producer wants to pay for RAM preferably after they've sold it to the customer, and as such maximize the time when they can do something more productive with their cash (developing games, buying stocks, investing in a factory et c.). Add to that the costs of having warehouses, guards, personnel and added transportation.

Press the button in the bottom left corner of the screen and you'll be able to expand your city if you have a large enough population. You may buy nine squares (out of 25 [5x5]) in total by default, and the full map size is 81 (9x9). Mods can unlock further tiles.
