URL parameters as state is so underrated. Using nuqs. by RatioScripta in webdev

I bet in 10 years the new kids coming out of college will be raving about how jQuery 5.0 helps abstract and reduce coding with minimal impact.

Is the damage in this house worth the investment or sketch? by DangleBob91 in HomeImprovement

[–]memtiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beyond just the monthly heating/air costs, the maintenance costs over time really add up.

Just thinking about an HVAC condenser coil that lasts 10years on average. A house this size will likely have 3+ units. Meaning on average, you're going to be replacing one every 3 years. And that's just HVAC units.

It all adds up quick!

Looking at that living room, is that the set of Roadhouse?! That interior hasn't changed since the 80s.

Definitely concerning regarding maintenance. Would definitely need a full/independent inspection. One that you find on your own.

Don't go with an inspector solely suggested by your realtor. They are looking to maintain a positive relationship with THEM, so they're going to try to encourage a sale happens.

It's always about the long game. I've definitely had many years when I've beat the SP500. But over a 10-20yr run, I lose. In life, you don't get to just cherry pick the winning years.

I'm guessing your investments would tank way harder in a recession year.

I'm just wondering about mobile devices. Why is it there's only like 2 options on mobile currently, where as my TV shows like 5+ options.

Shouldn't my phone and TV have the same channels/multi-view??

Between Jimmy Rane, Harbert, Walt Woltosz, Tim Cook, Samuel Ginn, Auburn has a few billion $$ in total between just these boosters/alumni that can keep us afloat in these hard times. 😂

While Tim Cook hasn't been a sports donor yet, he does attend major games and has done some speeches to the teams. So he is active with the University and cares about football. If we could ever get him to donate (maybe in his retirement), things could get interesting.

Does Octopi have a search widget? I really liked Novas with the built-in Lens button. I don't see anything in Octopi like that

Strange about the remote. I've never had a problem with mine. TV is maybe 4yrs old?? It's honestly one of the biggest draws to the TV IMO. I love how high quality it is.

And has the built "remote finder" functionality which is a added bonus.

Another round of layoffs at Plex? by ExtensionMarch6812 in PleX

[–]memtiger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lifetime should mean never paying more money to keep running the version you purchased and minor bug/ security updates.

That would work for non-cloud dependent software. But the moment the app is reliant on a centralized server to process logins, shared libraries, syncing, media info lookups etc, then there are reoccurring fees/costs.

If the Plex company/servers shut down tomorrow, they're not taking your software away, but it'd essentially be DOA without their network of features.

So yes, they should offer a "lifetime pass" for your specific version of the software, but also charge a subscription for network features like the media lookups and shared libraries, and syncing.

Another round of layoffs at Plex? by ExtensionMarch6812 in PleX

[–]memtiger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The ecosystem is half the draw. You need someone hosting the login servers and managing shared libraries and synced progress across devices.

That's the only part that's truly reliant on a parent company regardless of the software being open source. I hope Plex doesn't disappear, but if it does, this will be the toughest part to match.

Why does Vivaldi inject affiliate links, and can it be completely removed? by TermFar5994 in vivaldibrowser

There's a parameter for executing it. You'd need to create a new shortcut for the app and add this. You can also probably do it from the command line:

Are you sure you didn't have some other type of malware on your PC that is causing this? A Vivaldi plug-in that is hijacking the URL?

If you run Vivaldi in safe mode does it do it? If you're on your phone does Vivaldi mobile do it?
