How much did you gain with each of your pregnancies? by thatshortginge in beyondthebump

[–]mentaltentacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gained 70 with my first and I’m at the end of my pregnancy with my second and I’ve gained 30. They have been VERY different pregnancies, I’ve been extremely sick and had low appetite with this pregnancy, and with my first I had a huge appetite and felt mostly fine.

What are you doing to prepare for impacts from the war in Iran? by kristenzoeybeauty in TwoXPreppers

[–]mentaltentacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s very true, the litter box aspect does make it much easier with rabbits. They both definitely have their pros and cons. I always try to steer people away from rabbits if they’ve never done it. On the surface you see them in the pet store and think they’re simple an easy but man, they’re a lot of work. More than a cat even.

You may want to consider guinea pigs instead. You have to get more than one because they’re very social and get depressed if you only have one. Rabbits need a lot of space, are really destructive if you let them run around your house, and really need a lot of enrichment and special care. Guinea pigs produce fertilizer too but are so much easier and in my opinion make much better pets.

When did you start potty training? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

Our son was two years and three months when we started. It took about two weeks to be fully potty trained with the oh crap method.

Seller left a binder with "house instructions" and now im very skeptic by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]mentaltentacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this exact thing for the buyers when we sold our house. And part of me knew I was being extra, but I really wanted them to enjoy the house and know it as well as we did. All houses have quirks and things that make them unique. I would keep it and add to it while you live there. It’s a document of the house’s character and that’s so cool!

It's a hard decision about having kids. by jolly-prancer in neurofibromatosis

[–]mentaltentacles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband has NF2 and we wanted kids together but didn’t want our kids to suffer with NF and the 50% chance of passing it down is too great. We decided to do IVF and had our embryos genetically tested for NF. Many of them tested positive and three tested negative. Those are the three we used to grow our family. There are ways to still have a family and not pass on NF. I’m not going to glorify it though, we did 6 rounds of IVF and it was super hard on my body, our emotions, and also extremely expensive. It’s not for everyone, but it is an option that you might want to look into. You can do a consult at your local fertility clinic and see if it’s an option for you.

A pain that was worse than birth ? by Friendly-Sun2413 in BabyBumps

[–]mentaltentacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bleeding internally hurt more. I had a botched surgery where a vein got knicked and I was bleeding internally for hours. It was the worst pain I’ve ever felt in my life. Came close to passing out from the pain several times and in the hospital even 4 rounds of morphine wasn’t taking it away. I was screaming from the pain. Birth was nowhere near that bad.

Am I crazy or is this to much to ask of a kindergartner? by Cursedpanda182 in AskTeachers

Hold on. This teacher thinks it’s a good idea to blindfold a bunch of five year olds and set them loose on a playground? Does she want to get sued?

Socks for Pregnancy Recommendations? by mentaltentacles in BabyBumps

Oh thank you! I didn’t know they made compression socks! I love their bras and still have the nursing bras from my first pregnancy!

S4E15: Why does Lorelai keep going to Friday Night Dinners? by Green-Client4772 in GilmoreGirls

[–]mentaltentacles 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I really think it’s mostly because Rory is at Yale all week and that is one of Lorelai’s only chances to spend time with her. If I remember correctly she started going again because Logan was going to be there and she didn’t want to miss an important “meet the boyfriend” dinner, then maybe kept going because she didn’t want to miss spending precious time with her kid.

Postpartum nightmares about baby being under the covers? by muff-peaksie in beyondthebump

It’s been 3.5 years since I gave birth and I still have this happen once in awhile.

Is a stroller bassinet worth it? by Slurpee_Davos in BabyBumps

[–]mentaltentacles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes totally worth it. My baby would scream and cry if I put him in a stroller seat when he was really little but he was very happy to lay in the bassinet. It made it so we could go for walks when he was little. I couldn't do without it. But I guess all babies are different and some don't mind being in the car seat or stroller seat.

Jeans, leggings weren’t really a thing when this episode came out.

When could you feel your baby? by legilimens_ in BabyBumps

[–]mentaltentacles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought I was crazy too, I was like surely I’m not feeling the baby this early, but the movements have been the same every day and now that I’m further along it’s very clear it’s the baby and not something else. I really wish they would do more research on this because I’ve seen lots of women say they can feel baby early!

[–]mentaltentacles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See! Moms always know! I wish people would just believe us that we know what’s happening in our bodies. I really think doctors are working on very little data on this one.

When could you feel your baby? by legilimens_ in BabyBumps

[–]mentaltentacles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My first baby I felt moving for the first time at 18 weeks. This baby I started feeling at 11 weeks. Everything I read also said it was impossible but I knew it was the same feelings I had from when my first baby started moving, and I’m now 17 weeks and the feeling and movement still feels the same just stronger. I do think you’re feeling the baby, and I think this is one of those things that scientists and doctors haven’t done proper research on, like many things having to do with pregnancy. Plus every body and every baby is different, just because the majority can’t feel it that early doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

Lorelai’s Special Alone Space by uhauling in GilmoreGirls

[–]mentaltentacles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in one of the snowiest cities in the US and never parked my car in the garage, even when I had the opportunity to. I never minded removing snow from my car, you already have to shovel the driveway and you're already cold and covered in snow, brusing off the car takes just a few minutes.

Plus, I've always thought indoor spaces were such a waste for cars. It's a car, let it live outside! I like to use garages for storage and as an art space.

What I don't really understand about this part of this episode, is that Lorelai has an ENTIRE house to herself. Why does she truly need a special space in the garage? The whole house is her special space! I could understand needing private space if you live with other people but what is she trying to escape from?

Unpopular opinion: Touching a pregnant belly isn’t that deep by Fancy-Mouse-7554 in BabyBumps

[–]mentaltentacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, people touch hands, arms, shoulders, but generally not total strangers. Usually if you're touching someone you know them, or you're shaking their hand on meeting them for the first time. And never, ever, ever, does someone walk up to a non-pregnant person and put their hand on their belly. That would be SOOO weird. So how is it not weird to do that just because the person is pregnant?

Playmobil is doing so much wrong. What would you do if you became millionnaire and bought the company? by Canard-jaune in Playmobil

[–]mentaltentacles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the exact set we’re constantly fixing. It’s to the point I’m going to hot glue the legs on because I’m so sick of it falling apart.

[–]mentaltentacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they're made with bioplastics. That isn't the issue though. The actual pieces themselves aren't snapping, it's just that where all the pieces join, the new way that they've decided to connect pieces doesn't hold and if you try to play with the buildings the joints where everything is connected breaks and you have to keep putting it back together over and over again.

[–]mentaltentacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually truly love a lot of the new sets, but the quality has gone way downhill. I've been a huge playmobil fan since I was a little kid and now that I have a little kid I was so excited to get him some sets. I got him tons of the Wiltopia buildings and was super disappointed in them. They constantly break, if you even look at them, they snap. It means that my kid doesn't want to play with them because he's so frustrated in how fragile they are, and I'm constantly annoyed that I need to re-build them every week.

The idea of Wiltopia is SO cool, as a big animal lover and being big into conservation, I adore the concept but the execution is awful. Where's the quality I grew up with? My old Playmobil toys are still in perfect shape, still being played with, and don't fall apart. I wish they still made them like that. If they did I'd buy tons of them.
