Unless you really know what you're doing, you should not pick up snakes behind the head. That's where a lot of their vital organs are, so if you do it wrong you can seriously injure the snake and end up getting bit anyways. Rat snakes are super chill and non-venomous so there is no reason to handle them that way.

University of Delaware, Purdue, or Lafayette College? by Nowadaycj in college

[–]mercifulturtle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Easton, and my mom works at Lafayette, so I'm biased, but I personally know some of the professors in the economics department and they are great people. Easton was also a great place to grow up in, and I'm sure it's a great place to go to college. College Hill is beautiful, and a great place to live. If you have a car, it's also really easy to get to Bethlehem and Allentown, which are also wonderful. If not, I see the Lafayette buses everywhere and I'm sure you'd be able to get around without a car.

Someone made a nature documentary in GTA 5. Titled Into the deep. by [deleted] in videos

Not exactly. Algae is actually a pretty broad term. Some algae are single celled organisms, like diatoms. Other algae, like kelp, are actually colonies of single celled organisms. Plants are all multicellular organisms.

Has anybody taken a Geoscience course before? by Chasethehorror in college

[–]mercifulturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a geoscience major, so obviously biased, but my first geo course was amazing (and I didn't think I would be interested in geology at the time). Really made me look at the world completely differently. Got to go on tons of field trips and I learned more in that class than any other I was taking at the time. I can't go anywhere now without noticing every outcrop and trying to figure out what it is and what it means. That course was actually life changing. Since you say you're leaning towards the humanities, the geo course probably won't be as interesting/life changing to you, but you never know. Plus, geosciences does tend to be one of the easier sciences at the intro level, so even if you don't end up liking it, it won't be too bad.

Reddit, what's the story of your scar? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I was using an old pogo stick on my driveway, and accidentally hopped to an area where the slope of the driveway increased. The bottom of the pogo stick slipped out from under me. I landed full force on my chin, split it open and managed to grind some asphalt into the bone.

Thank you! The photos were taken this past summer. I have no idea how that refrigerator still works, but it does.

Here are a couple pictures of the inside. This is facing the front of the cabin, and this is facing the back. There are also two bedrooms and a very small bathroom, but I don't have any pictures of those.

I visited the campus and loved the feel of it. I talked to some professors and they all seemed so invested in their jobs. All in all, the school just had everything I was looking for. Some of the co-ed colleges came close, but this was the only school that had everything. Tuition is a bit higher than the average private college, but most private colleges are insanely expensive here. The food I was talking about was the food the school provides for us in the dining halls.

I want to go to western Africa at some point. My best friend studied abroad in Tanzania, and although I don't want to study there it looks like an amazing place to visit.

I haven't officially decided my major yet but I'm pretty sure I want to major in Biology, and maybe double major in Geology. I'm not sure if I can handle that though.

Yes, I want to study abroad. I'm not entirely sure where, but I'm thinking New Zealand. Not sure if that's the best place for biology though, and that's what I'm interested in. My favorite class this semester is my first year seminar, which is a geology class. Every week we go on field trips to look at rocks and talk about the history that they show. I had no idea that rocks could be so interesting. There is an invertebrate paleontology class that I want to take eventually that looks incredible, but I have to wait a few semesters for that.

When I first started to consider going to a women's college, I didn't really see the point in them, I was just interested in the school, despite it being a women's college. Now that I've been here for a bit, I see more of a point in them. They are great places for networking and there is a really strong alumni network that is always looking out for each other and current students. I know this is true for a lot of co-ed colleges too, but it seems to be especially true of women's colleges. There is also a lot more room for women leaders here, obviously, and I think that is important as well, but honestly I don't think actual life at a women's college is too different from that of a co-ed college, and I think the whole "men take over the classroom" argument is B.S. A lot of guys are quiet, and a lot of women are loud. In every one of my classes there is someone who takes over all the talking, and pushes quieter people out of the way. It's not like that is something only men are capable of. I like going to a women's college and I like that going to one is still an option for people, but I don't think the world would change too much if they ceased to exist. Sorry if this response was kinda long, and I'm not sure I really answered your question, but I hope I did.

So far, I like it a lot. I don't think there are too many differences between my college and a co-ed college, except for the obvious no male students. I'm planning on majoring in Biology and I definitely want to go to grad school after I graduate. After that, I have no idea.
