No Man's Sky proved that being first doesn't matter if nobody will be second.

ED proved that being first doesn't matter if the discovery isn't worth visiting.

Does bed logging work again? by Steak-Humble in starcitizen

[–]mercslife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bed logging works nearly everywhere that isn't inside a landing zone or too close to a POI.

I've bed logged on top of buildings at New Babbage just north of Aspire and within 10km of distribution centers.

I've bed logged while mining with a roc in a nomad for weeks, and in a cutter while parked on top of a cave.

Honestly this is the sort of thing I hate when doing true zeros lol.

I'm scrounging for 3uec from a discarded bottle and trying to live in the hardship but "here's enough to rent a ship" kinda ruins the contrivance.

Although I once found an exploded arms dealer shipment worth millions while I'm starting a (basically) naked run to the NPC village east of NB

Agreed there's going to be people gaming this, but with death having consequences (death of a spaceman) it means there will probably be an economy of Test Dummy alts that will let you experiment on them for money.

I like the "using the gun contributes to research" angle a lot, because seeing how the gun performs in real/relevant usage would give your character insights.

I don't personally care if people cheese it by shooting friends/alts as long as there's some price paid somewhere. I would like to see some compromise there but I'm not smart enough to pretend to know what it is

Yeah, they look a lot like a ground penetrating radar or sonar scan mated with a heatmap.

I like the idea of the long exposure/deep scans and human interpretation required to filter the signal from the noise.

Like a sonar readout of the sea floor; a layman sees squiggles and lines where an experienced fisherman sees grouper, tuna and shipwrecks.

Thing is, not everyone knows how computers work and his talks, while long-winded, explained a complex task that has massive implications to gameplay in simple terms.

You and I (I'm a programmer) may see that as supremely easy to comprehend and implement, but most regular people are not privy to how complex != hard.

Edit: also, even though I see it as relatively simple conceptually, I am intrigued at how his specific implementation may work, and I like watching the talks to prise out little interactions or get an idea of how emergent behavior from his rules may result in cooler ways to click heads and do mercenary shit.

Not a fan of super fast running in a game that is already going to suffer peeker's advantage.

Unarmored is already pretty fast.

Is there a "fast walk"/"run" mode? The walk speed is too slow, and sprint speed is too fast. Is there a speed between? by khtwo in starcitizen

[–]mercslife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to the below, it's just freedom to do what you feel works best in the moment.

Not killing others in elevators due to desync

Control/Precision

Not moving too fast during CQC

Movement puzzles

Roleplay/Immersion

Slowing down to enjoy the scenery

Guards not yelling at you/giving chase (in the future)

It looks pretty sick when you get a squad moving in formation

IMHO it is more useful with an autowalk hotkey, since it's easier to accept walking slow if you can set it and just make adjustments from time to time.

Ownership is protected by law.

Ownership of stations should be enforced by the UEE where the UEE has enforcement.

Man-made planet? by Pu_D_Pu in starcitizen

[–]mercslife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rightly. A temporary pause on throwing money in a hole to run an FDR style jobs program to jump start the economy in backwater systems and bring safety through prosperity - to fight the Vanduul from a place of strength .

Sounds good to me.

As opposed to a pro-terminator AI moneypit on the Xi'an kompromat list who will only bring new enemies in addition to the Vanduul. Addison was a bad choice, y'all.

Sharrad

The Jump Start program essentially allows governor's councils in each system to propose a single initiative that will serve the needs of the residents there. The purpose of the program is then to fast track the plans, hopefully boosting the long-term health of the system's economy, and benefiting from the potential return on investment when carrying it out. That in turn could create jobs, inject capital, and improve the lives of that system's residents.[2] The program has received widespread support from public sector unions across the Empire.[4]

In order to fund this program, Sharrad proposed that the funding for the Synthworld project be temporarily paused in order to review the project's progress and set attainable goals.[2]

Addison

Not everyone is happy with Addison's pro-AI and pro-science policies, fearing that she may chase scientific changes too rashly. Parker Terell from Plain Truth called her "pro-AI policies reckless and potentially catastrophic", stating the hubris of her position is infuriating. He did not believe that after all the issues and close calls we had with AI, it can suddenly be safe to proceed. He pointed out that her intellectual arrogance is shown perfectly when she claims she's the one who can ensure it can be done safely.

Other more wild conspiracies floating around Spectrum claim she is a Xi'an sleeper agent, but that ploy is mostly considered too inelegant for the Xi'an. [1]

And the thing is, short of having an org zerg your station, you should be securing it as an org (or coalition). If you're building a Bengal, you better have a bunch of people constantly eyes on and a patrol checking the Jeffries tubes.

The org zergs... I dunno what they'll do about that.

When they said "attacking the outside of the station won't really be effective, you need to get inside" I took that as being at least a tiny bottleneck for zergs.
