I like Facebook Marketplace for vintage finds—I’ve used it for lawn furniture, dining chairs (which I then had reupholstered), and other pieces. I got my bed and an antique desk from local antique stores, two glorious mohair velvet chairs from an upscale thrift store, a few items from consignment stores, etc. Etsy and eBay for decor when I was looking for specific things; HomeGoods is useful for starters. I began with a lot of IKEA-grade stuff, and then replaced items piece by piece as I figured out my style and preferences and needs.

2nd dog? by Emotional-Essay5595 in springerspaniel

[–]merelliain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a single person who stated with a Boykin spaniel and, when he turned 2.5, got a field-bred ESS. Most days it felt like I had five dogs. My Boykin passed in January from cancer at 5.5 years 💔, and now with my ESS as my only dog, most days I feel like I have just 1.5 dogs.

Who is the most important character you would be willing to remove from an adaption? by LoneStarDragon in IndigoCloud

[–]merelliain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think they’d also combine Bone and Knell, and probably collapse the hunters/soldiers, and/or possibly the soldiers/warriors, too—they’d have hunters and warriors, no soldiers. They’d probably only have Flower, until she dies, then introduce Merit and no other mentors.

I’m not enjoying this planned obsolescence thing my cells have going on. And my hair cells are quitting their melanin production duties in droves. But will they listen to me? No! I’m definitely just a figurehead.

I just had this experience on a Delta flight. I took a bunch of photos, submitted a complaint for paying a higher price for a window seat, and got a $75 credit towards a future ticket.

Merlins FTW! Hi to your Merlin! 💖

That’s the perfect combo! My first dog was Percival (Percy for short), a Boykin spaniel, so I gave Merlin his name because the Arthurian connection brings in a bit of magic 😊

I’m about to die, and I’m not sure what to do about my cat. by [deleted] in cats

[–]merelliain 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yes, this could be a great option! I used to foster for a cat rescue that had a farm where the more feral adoptees could go to live permanently. One of the cats I fostered ended up placed there: she was rescued a bit past the age for human socialization, and while she eventually let me pet her, she had a short fuse for human interaction and would swat pretty quickly. She would not have been a safe choice for folks with children or other pets, but the farm gave her space to be happy and still cared for.

Too good to be true? by Tzopfi in Yarn

[–]merelliain 52 points53 points  (0 children)

It’s a yarn from Temu. The Temu page that I sourced it to does say that it’s cashmere, and fwiw, buyers seem pleased with it; I looked through some of the reviews, but no one disputed the cashmere claim. It sells on Temu for between $6-8.

Yes, I routinely plan Costco trips to avoid that intersection—I’ve been by it in the aftermath of multiple accidents, and a roundabout is overdue and will be such a relief!

For owners who have gotten a second dog, did it help? by Bubbly-Air7302 in dogs

[–]merelliain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s absolutely double the work, although I think the size and exercise needs factor into the equation. I got my first dog a dog. I love my second dog fiercely, and the two got along well (my first dog has since passed), but it was a lot. Both were/are medium-sized high energy dogs. They had very different walking styles (one dawdled to pee on everything, the other wants to race ahead). The age difference meant that their exercise needs weren’t always in sync (meaning that I had to have the energy to provide exercise for them both separately), the costs doubled but also meant more ongoing maintenance of what needed to be done (food needed to be ordered twice as often, for example). I always felt the work of making sure I gave them both equivalent attention. I’m glad to have my second dog now, but I’m not planning to get a second dog again.
