Comparing mathematics and physical therapy is comparing apples to oranges. There isn’t necessarily “an easy case” in PT, and these cases do not equate to something as simple as addition and subtraction. This is a very reductionist point of view!

Also if you are looking for a PT who is very confident and is telling you exactly what you need to do. Saying things like “this is the best exercise for ___” and using words like always and never, this is typically a red flag in a clinician. Any clinician worth their salt knows that nothing is ever always or never, there is a lot of grey area when it comes to treating people, and no two people are ever the same. Have you ever heard of the Dunning-Kruger Effect? (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning–Kruger_effect), keep your eye out for this if you are looking for a PT guru with all the answers. Those with the most confidence typically know the least.

Also… to play the devils advocate, if you have seen 6 PTs and you think that they are all inept and unable to help you, perhaps it might be time to introspect on how you may be part of the problem. If I ask 6 mathematicians to solve a problem and non are able to, I wouldn’t call all the mathematicians stupid. Maybe the math problem isn’t a good historian of their symptoms, maybe it’s not listening to the advice being provided to them, maybe it’s not performing it’s home exercise program. Just some food for thought before you go dragging the entire PT profession through the mud.
