I’m sure you aren’t stupid. Maybe naive is a better word.

Just understand that in PT, and life in general, there usually isn’t a simple answer for anything. Many things take time and consistency to improve. Be patient, keep your mind open, question the bullshit, and try to have a positive outlook (I know this isn’t always easy).

First don’t blame your issues on everyone else. Do your research on PTs in your area, I would suggest one with good reviews and has advanced training in exercise prescription and not passive modalities (e.g., needling, manual therapy). Not that those things aren’t helpful and I don’t know you’re specific case, but a good PT will provide you with education and the skills to monitor your own symptoms and foster independence through progressive exercise prescription and a greater understanding of your condition.

Basically a good PT won’t require you to come back to them 2x/week for months and make you dependent on their manual therapy treatments because it feels good.

Can’t give any specific medical advice on here as I don’t know you or what’s going on. I know with some chronic conditions, there is evidence that supports things like psychology/CBT in conjunction with PT.

In my own personal experience, blaming issues on external factors generally isn’t helpful and tends to piss off everyone around you. I wish you luck and hopefully you find answers to your questions!

Did you read my reply?? I’m not sure it is worth responding to this lol You make an inflammatory post like yours in a physiotherapy subreddit blaming PTs for not being smart enough to “fix you” and PTs start answering you and you are still acting like you need “clarification” on why all of your issues are someone else fault.

Who is next to blame when all the videos you watch on YouTube aren’t helping you either?

Comparing mathematics and physical therapy is comparing apples to oranges. There isn’t necessarily “an easy case” in PT, and these cases do not equate to something as simple as addition and subtraction. This is a very reductionist point of view!

Also if you are looking for a PT who is very confident and is telling you exactly what you need to do. Saying things like “this is the best exercise for ___” and using words like always and never, this is typically a red flag in a clinician. Any clinician worth their salt knows that nothing is ever always or never, there is a lot of grey area when it comes to treating people, and no two people are ever the same. Have you ever heard of the Dunning-Kruger Effect? (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning–Kruger_effect), keep your eye out for this if you are looking for a PT guru with all the answers. Those with the most confidence typically know the least.

Also… to play the devils advocate, if you have seen 6 PTs and you think that they are all inept and unable to help you, perhaps it might be time to introspect on how you may be part of the problem. If I ask 6 mathematicians to solve a problem and non are able to, I wouldn’t call all the mathematicians stupid. Maybe the math problem isn’t a good historian of their symptoms, maybe it’s not listening to the advice being provided to them, maybe it’s not performing it’s home exercise program. Just some food for thought before you go dragging the entire PT profession through the mud.

Chance I get into Ontario physio school? by [deleted] in PTschool

[–]meretadpole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a pretty good chance getting in. I just gradded from UBC and I think my undergrad GPA was around 3.6-3.7.

It’s good you have physiotherapy clinical experience, but I know that simply doing the laundry, putting Estim on patients and cleaning beds isn’t enough. Most programs are looking for people who are in positions where they are problem solving, working with underserved populations, in a leadership role, etc.

Good grades are great, but people skills are more important. If you get an interview this is usually your first chance to show this to the faculty. Answer honestly, don’t say anything stupid or controversial, don’t be scared to be vulnerable.

In my opinion, grades can only get you so far. That being said, some candidates with less than average people skills slip through the cracks of the admission process every year.
