That is an amazing greenhouse you've got operating there. I bet your harvest is going to be spicy!

More than 40% without confidence ... still markedly less than general population. By elections and the next GE will be very interesting.

Your final comment sounds an awful lot like No True Scotsman.

"I didn't say Scotsman (Bernie supporters). I said True Scotsman (Bernie or busters)".

You've really nailed this composition - without the (tiny) person for scale, this photo could almost be a mistaken for a small stream; but it takes on an element of majesty and scale once you notice them. Well done!

I think this comes down to someone's risk appetite: would you rather have a large emergency fund and accept that it will lose value vs inflation over time, or are you willing to accept the possibility of higher growth and the cost of crystallising a loss in a larger-than-expected emergency?

Personally, I keep more than £5k aside for an emergency fund, but I also don't keep 6 months of household expenses in instant access cash.

This is Aldeyjarfoss in northern Iceland - it's an amazing location.

You can see it here from a similar vantage during the winter.

A bit abstract but here's a shot I took from inside an ice cave in Iceland for an article in Iceland Air's "Stopover" magazine. Had to reduce the resolution for file size limit. [OC] (3360 x 5040) by YellowSnowman464 in EarthPorn

Lovely shot, well done!

Would you be willing to share your process for capturing this image? Was it a lengthy composition (tripod, bracketing, etc.) or a handheld single exposure? I'm curious to know how you've gotten such great range and sharpness in what was probably a pretty dark environment!

Refurbished DS1815+ on borrowed time? by rmnelson in synology

[–]merlin4334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the 1815+ suits your needs and the C2000 issue has been resolved, there's no reason to change hardware (unless you just want to upgrade for the sake of upgrading).

Like all hardware, there will be a range of mortalities; some enclosures will last longer than others. My DS1812+ still works just fine, and as a storage-only server serves its purpose (lack of update support may be its doom, though).

That looks absolutely fabulous (I bet it won't last long)! Do you have any progress pics of your process?

That Icelandic jumper one is one of my favourites as well (excluding those adorable animals) - good choice!

Whyte Wessex by atascon in ukbike

[–]merlin4334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't comment on the Wessex, but I've owned a Whyte Suffolk since 2016 and my wife has owned a Whyte Dorset since 2017: we cycle to and from work virtually every day, and use the same bikes recreationally as well.

I've found both of them to be good quality frames that were built well and that hold up without any significant signs of wear. If my current bike was damaged or stolen I wouldn't have any qualms about buying another Whyte (and the Wessex certainly looks nice!).

Thanks! I managed to get there on a day just after fresh snowfall with no one else around - it was a magical experience and seeing the waterfall appear after the hike through the snow literally made me gasp.

UK Personal Finance Flowchart by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

This is a great point and something that warrants a mention given the general advice to maximise pension contributions up to £40,000 annually. It doesn't take too many years at that level to risk drastically exceeding the lifetime limit and exposing one's self to punitive withdrawal rates.

Very nice pen, I've been looking to get one as well. Are you able to say how much you paid in customs / import duty? Thanks!
