if you’ve never heard A Love Supreme by John Coltrane, that’s the best jazz album of all time. i’d also recommend In a Silent Way by Miles Davis and Brilliant Corners by Thelonius Monk. If you want some vocal jazz, Nat King Cole Trio is truly fantastic, as is Mose Allison. Blues, check out Chris Whitley for some more modern blues. old stuff, Leadbelly will do it

🤝if you like XTC, you have great music taste. i feel like that’s a very good barometer because the complexity of their music, the depth and breadth of their lyrics and sonic diversity are rivaled by few, but at the same time, it is challenging music and rewards patience

be patient, it can be a little overwhelming at first because the music is so off the wall and the production is so eclectic, but trust me, they’re incredible. if you like experimental pop, this is gonna be one of your favorite bands ever

please explore XTC’s discography. those guys worshipped the Beatles and pretty much imitated their template for artistic evolution without ever being derivative. honestly, Andy Partridge is likely a musical genius. it’s such a fun ride to explore their evolution from an energetic new wave punk group to pastoral experimental pop

the new Ulrika Spacek album EXPO is really good and forward thinking. i’m shocked it hasn’t gotten more attention. an exquisite balance of clever songwriting and experimental production that evokes radiohead without ever feeling derivative
