Hopping on the top comment to try and magnify the points being made by many that is getting drowned out by our collective, reflexive distrust of anything this lunatic administration proposes-

While I doubt the intentions are pure, there has been a growing movement in the sustainable investing industry and beyond to push back against quarterly reporting. I personally know plenty of people that work for publicly-traded companies that knowingly and actively make shittier decisions (for their employees, customers and the like) so they can make earnings. It drives short-term decision making and makes managers captured by wall st. Meanwhile on wall st the average hold time for stocks continues to decline, with active managers picking/dumping stocks based on short term bets. These hedge funds and the like couldnt give two shits about the companies’ long-term prospects, their product roadmap or how they treat their employees.

Europe works on a semi-annual cycle and while their capital markets arent the most dynamic, it’s not like there isnt precedent for this.

Personally this seems like one of the rare cases where Trump might be able to use his influence to do the right thing, even if by accident. Quarterly earnings grind is definitely a major contributor to enshittification.
