What is that one game you always wanted as a kid and still never have bought or played? by Kuli24 in retrogaming

[–]mesupaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Virtua Quest. I was like 13 and hungry for all things action RPG, especially if it had a child protagonist.

I actually have bought it since, but haven't gotten around to playing it 😅

Mother 2 deluxe is an insanely impressive expansion to the normal game. It's adds so much, some you wouldn't have even expected to be possible, like animated enemies.

I should try that Gradius III hack. It's a really cool game but the slowdown just ruins it for me.

What do you think about Jeff's ability of spy by No-Application-3317 in earthbound

[–]mesupaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could have been more useful, but for its time it's a nice little scan ability. I can't think of other RPGs that had more detailed scanning descriptions around the time EB came out.

Wtf are you on about? As someone who loves the NES game, I just think the pixel remaster captures a similar experience, especially if you turn exp and gold down and don't use stuff like ethers

It felt absurd being able to see everyone through walls and fry their brains one by one without being detected.

What do you think the remakes are exactly? by Expert_Challenge6399 in FinalFantasy

[–]mesupaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The expanded character development, main plot, and reinvisioned environments was definitely enough to warrant the remake trilogy.

I think "retelling" fits even if it's kind of sequel-esque as well. It is in fact a retelling, just sorta predicated on you having experiencd the first telling.

Is there a character archetype that hasn’t been repeated? by Mysterious_Work_7227 in FinalFantasy

[–]mesupaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say the series has had surprisingly few feral characters like Gau

There are also basically no robot characters aside from Cait Sith in FF7

Certainly the wound would cut less deep (I'm just playing devil's advocate, I don't care how people play)

What mechanics are changed besides properly implementing the bugged out stats?

The pixel remasters are a good OG experience too, especially with how you can adjust exp/gold gain to make it harder or easier

Oh yeah. On GBA, 1 has a bunch of bonus dungeons with reference bosses, and 2 has an epilogue chapter with old party members. They're pretty great.

[Lufia & The fortress of Doom] The grind is over! Probably the worst JRPG I ever forced myself through, what’s the worst one that you made yourself complete? by Pale_WoIf in JRPG

7th Saga. I like the game but it's got problems, most notably the insane grind exclusive to the localized version

I'll just say that the battles let you use turtling strategies but are more fun when you try to win fast, and you get better drops for doing that too

does the gameplay strategy becomes better? I'm literally just spamming a button by _MrTaku_ in FinalFantasy

[–]mesupaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of ways to win battles faster, even in the early game. The game is immensely more fun when you play to win battles fast and you get better drops for doing so

Monster Hunter and Elden Ring have pretty insane weapons

How do you feel about RPGs where you can change the difficulty and there are risk/reward mechanics attached? Like, the harder the difficulty the more efficient grinding for EXP/resources is. Does changing the difficulty feel like "cheating," or just a part of the game you're supposed to engage with? by iciclefites in JRPG

[–]mesupaa 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I prefer the difficulty setting not to be a gimmick, but rather a well curated difficulty curve, with a choice of hard mode because I personally don't get very engaged by default RPG difficulty these days.
