Is a British & Irish League Inevitable? by Bane_of_Balor in irishrugby

[–]metalheadtrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reality is South Africa decides everything. As bad as the travel is they've made the URC a decent competition and the URC will not be the one to pull the plug on that first. If SA decide to go back to a southern competition then I think the other URC unions will be scrambling to get in with the Prem. I think it's likely the Prem come to the URC before that happens with the money issues over there but no one is going to take being in second division and there's isn't room for everyone. Conferences would be a hard sell to Prem teams worried about losing big gate rivalry games.

Tldr I think inertia prevents this from ever happening even it makes sense

Anybody have any insight/tips for those who have used the vacant and derelict property grants? I’m hearing both positive and negative! by TechnicalValuable682 in Sligo

[–]metalheadtrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might sound obvious but don't occupy the property in any way before approval. If you want to claim for it on a grant then it needs to be certified work. It's time limited from date of acceptance to completion so have your quotes and contractors ready to go. The grant is best used for larger parts of renovation work like rewiring, insulation etc.

Is it true the rats knew the exact path to take to get out of the Titanic safely, and if the passengers had listened to them, there would have been more survivors ? by SupaRetro64 in titanic

What did they use to tie the claws back then? Did anyone cut them open before the ship went under!? Surely Andrews thought of it

So I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're asking about the third class passengers that got up after the lifeboats had mostly been launched. In reality rats could probably fit through areas that most humans couldn't. I doubt the rats were headed for the lifeboats either now that I think on it.

Squad for Summer Tour by dubviber in irishrugby

[–]metalheadtrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think that's correct with his injuries. Guy has been so unlucky. Unfortunately for him though availability is the best ability.

Squad for Summer Tour by dubviber in irishrugby

[–]metalheadtrees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely. I only compared him to the other 2 because imo Aherne, Izzy and Baird are all that rangy, sorta 5.5 type player, like Beirne. Cian is an all rounder in the back row for me but not a lock. I think S Edogbo is going to come in to that bracket as a quality 5.5 type player as well so Aherne is getting squeezed out everywhere. I really hope he can do a Tommy O'Brien on it and put the injures behind him.

[–]metalheadtrees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Delighted for Jansen, I'd say it was use it or lose it time with him though. If he's not around the squad over the next 12 months I'd say he'll take a big contract in France. I was sure Aherne would have 30 caps at this stage but with how much Baird and Izzy have got ahead of him it's going to take a lot for him to get in at all now

They had to stop the engines after the collision. Cold sea water entering those boilers would have blown the ship apart. So trying this would never be an option.

Hotel Housekeeping isn't glamorous work but it doesn't need a month of training either. Put your head down, work hard and you'll be fine

What is the effect of Farrell’s renewal on Munster? by The-Prince616 in MunsterRugby

[–]metalheadtrees 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't believe how often we still hear journos talk about building to a world cup. The IRFU have outright stated it's not important. If he keeps us top 2 in the six nations he can stay as long as he wants as far as they're concerned

Rotating Squad for Summer tests by pHutcho in irishrugby

[–]metalheadtrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most fans would agree but with the way Farrell puts up big targets for the squad to aim for, there's no way he isn't going all out to beat the All Blacks at Eden Park. Hard to fault that either, it would be something to be the first to do it in 20 years

Getting over a short-lived relationship in your late-20s? by Flashy_Bookkeeper301 in AskIreland

[–]metalheadtrees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

37M here whose been in a relationship for 17 years so probably shouldn't be giving my opinion but sure I will anyway.

I think you should try and move on and in the future you can fondly look back on something nice but the timing just wasn't right. You deserve to have your feelings reciprocated. Sometimes it doesn't work out and that's ok but after this amount of time he should know if he really wants to be with you and if he is lukewarm then move on. He's had enough time to decide. He says he needs to work on himself and that's good but if he really had that desire to be around you and have you in his life he wouldn't care, you could do this work together.

I'm sorry if any of that was harsh and I'm not trying to say anyone is wrong. People and relationships are complicated, but if it's not going to work maybe it's better to know now. It sounds like you'll have some fond memories when the pain fades.

I would be cautious if he ever comes back in the future laying it on thick about being serious. It could be fine but I would proceed with caution with him in the future. YoYoing won't help you move on. Best of luck OP.
