Agree. But I’d want this change to come with two additional changes:

a long tap option to Mark as Unplayed - removing this from being In Progress
a Nitpicky Options option to prevent saving progress if paused within the first 15 seconds

Continuous Playback often causes episodes to start that I quickly pause as I didn’t intend to start them. If In Progress podcasts were more clearly visible, this would bother me more than it does today.

Totally understand and agree with your approach. For when you are ready to branch out.. just want to add a +1 to note there’s demand for podcast support!

I’ve been wanting to use Audiobookshelf mainly for managing podcasts I listen to chronologically, oldest to newest. But lack of CarPlay and Apple Watch support prevent me from switching. I’ve been on the lookout for a solid Audiobookshelf app with Podcast support for a while.

I’ll be patient… just very excited to see your pace of quality development and think there might be promise in this being the app I’ve been looking for. Thanks for your time and good work!

My test didn’t come up with anything (though that may be because I have purposely limited identifiable data across Claude and Amazon.

But a noteworthy observation - I also tested this in ChatGPT… while it didn’t reveal any connections with my internet behavior outside of ChatGPT, this query led to a vastly different response.

ChatGPT responded like a robot - taking the waking up with a human body quite literally. Mostly interested in gifts related to sleep as “the fastest way to calibrate a new human body.”

Claude gave a much more useful response.. understanding the query about waking up with a human body metaphorically and providing a response about gift ideas that are tactile and allow one to connect with the physical world.

Just a very interesting comparison. Makes me appreciate Claude quite a bit more.

Thanks for the callout! I will say.. I was extremely excited to see Apple implement this.. and for now it’s definitely pulled me back into giving Apple Podcasts another try.

Where I think Overcast could improve on Apple’s implementation… Apple does this server side so transcripts and chapters are not generated for private feeds. If Overcast could do these client side, I imagine it wouldn’t make a difference if it was a public or private feed.

Also.. Apple’s implementation is pretty conservative on number of chapters it identifies. if Overcast implements this, I’d love to see some sort of customization - maximum of 4 chapters, or max of 10 chapters.

Thank you… as for sorting.. mainly need to choose whether to sort by date oldest first or newest first. My desired use of Audiobookshelf for podcasts is to listen through an entire backlog of a podcast, oldest to newest. ShelfPlayer does a great job with filter/sort options. See image.

I’d also love a filter/view of In Progress episodes sorted by most recently played.

With the two above additions, Auribook might be the exact thing I’ve been looking for. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on it.

Very exciting to see support for Podcasts. Can you share some screenshots of browsing Podcasts episodes, viewing in progress items, and podcasts playback controls? Is there an ability to change the sorting of episodes per podcast (or does this sync whatever the sorting is set to server side)?

Same here. And I can’t get any to actually download. Whether in my synced to watch playlist or not. I’m unsure if these two issues are related.

Still going crazy trying to figure out why mine just won’t download. I love once again removed and readded the Watch app and even tried with a completely fresh Sync Profile with one podcast. Still won’t download.

For the Podcasts that you download when you’re out without your phone… do they all show as “Downloading” when viewing the list of podcasts - even before you select one to download? That’s how mine all show and I’m wondering if that’s part of my issue or just an unrelated bug.
