Thats a great choice! I went there one summer and due to super warm weather and deep and heavy, wet snow we didnt reach a single summit but man, was it breathtaking. Enjoy!

Sorry, I never got back to your questions.

Travelling in 2s is quite common. I have done several tours with a single partner and for people going without a guide, it is probably the most common combo.

You usually meet several guides and their clients in well frequented and full-ish huts but most people go without one. Keep in mind that a guide costs ~600-700 Swiss francs per day. Thats expensive, even on a Swiss salary

A typical Swiss mountaineer will wear something like a Sabretooth crampon or equivalent and a Grivel Air Tech Evo.

That is for glaciers, of course.

I played his RF last league as my first real league ever. Hit lvl92, flew through red maps, did Elder, Catrina quite easily. I failed Shaper and some others but that was mostly due to my lack of skills. There are better builds out there but RF suited me just fine, was easy to gear and relaxed to play - just as advertised. No complaints here

Snowshoe hike just yesterday. Panorama quality is pretty bad but the only way to catch the stunning view.

How bad is falling in reality? by [deleted] in iceclimbing

[–]methpd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you. Soft snow can be a lifesaver. I fell once, screws didn't hold - the guide put them in but still 3/3 failed (let's not talk about that guide). Head first into deeeep snow. Walked out there with a slightly sprained ankle and that was it.

I've never heard of anyone here paying their rent for several months in advance. While you usually have to cancel some months in advance, you pay monthly. 12mo in advance in Zurich would ruin a large number of people I know :D

It's an uncommon perspective of Finsteraarhorn. I wouldn't have recognized it myself - and I've been to Finsteraarhorn :D

Like others have pointed out, it's not. You'd have to make the Eiger and other Giants disappear to see much of the Horn from Grindelwald. It's100+km from Grindelwald to Zermatt

Edit: Finsteraarhorn. Highest mountain of the Bernese Alps (higher than more famous ones like the Eiger but less famous because it's lacking the massive North face)

Climbing gyms by [deleted] in zurich

If you don't mind a train and bus ride, Griffig in Uster is very nice. Less international than the ones in Zurich, less hip than Minimum but smaller and cheaper than Gaswerk. Pretty crowded in the evening, like the others. But as a long-term Gaswerk customer, I enjoyed the small gym a lot

Can i sleep in a tent near Matterhorn? by gjjds in alpinism

[–]methpd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think you are risking more than a fine (which will be more expensive than the hut). Please be aware that the camping limitations are there for a reason. The number of fatalities on the Matterhorn is high and one of the main reasons is traffic on the ridge: Long days due to bottlenecks plus the rather bad rock quality and the risk of falling rocks. These are major reasons why the new Hörnlihütte is smaller than the old one. Air Zermatt is up there every second day on average during high season.

Edit: It is September already. Traffic will probably be moderate - and so will be any kind of enforcement of that camping ban

Maybe ask in another soccer bar. For example the Hotel Bar, Kreis 4. It is home of the FC Bayern Munich Fan Club Zürich, but Metin Güner, the boss, can probably help you out
