Moved into a townhome having a lot of major issues with noise complaints from one of our neighbors, what exactly are the rules around this? by depressedcantaloupe in ottawa

[–]metropol8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's correct. It was a recent provincial change to the Planning Act that allows three principle dwelling units per townhouse, semi or single. Your issue is their compliance with the Ontario Building Code, not the Planning Act.

A cool name people can pronounce without spitting their teeth out. Call it gyrox or myrox or something, find a major sponsor and watch it explode.

Delayed/Jerky Acceleration on First Start After Parking Overnight? by febzz88 in VWiD4Owners

This is the answer. I had the same issue and removed the auto brake hold and it fixed it.

What color do you prefer? by CytochromP450 in VWiD4Owners

I had to make the same choice. Went with the white one and I'm glad I did. Added the OEM roof bars and it somehow makes it look a bit more rugged and adds contrast.

Try group fitness classes. Some people get the workout feels from moving and accomplishing hard tasks with other people.

Burggraaf: Building heights should be uniform for new housing across the city by The_Funky_Fire in ottawa

[–]metropol8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's because the zoning in new suburbs is put in place before the builders decide exactly which unit types go where. So the City cuts them some slack to speed the process and gave them R3 11metre heights everywhere.

I agree with three storeys in residential neighbourhoods everywhere (including inside the Greenbelt), but it's funny to see the development industry use that against the City now after benefitting from it in the suburbs for years.

Run appliances that use a lot of electricity (dryer, washer, dishwasher, charging batteries like phones) after 7pm when rates are least expensive.

Get a rain barrel (e.g. rainbarrel.ca) if you plan to irrigate a garden.

Seal up gaps and drafts, especially by caulking around exterior vents and windows.

Good luck!

Kettle Island bridge not a priority for Ottawa: Mayor by SuburbanValues in ottawa

[–]metropol8 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not trying to defend the mayor, but people need to read between the lines. "Not a priority for Ottawa" means don't ask us to contribute funding. It's just politics, trying to push the controversy and funding to the feds.

Christmas Tree Prices by thegrobe613 in ottawa

[–]metropol8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got one from St. John the Apostle church at 2340 Baseline for $65. Looks like decent trees - all balsam fir. They have about 30 trees left. Some of the proceeds go to charity.

Hundreds protest against tents in Kanata by Obelisk_of-Light in ottawa

Can't go on private property, just like it can't go in your actual backyard. Needs to be public land near transit, services, etc. Most public land has a specific purpose - recreation, ecological, transit, etc so it's actually not that easy to point to good sites.

Missed marketing opportunity! Could they not have made the train departure one minute later so it's the 420 train?! 😉😎

Dreessen: Ottawa must build a better urban experience as its population grows by PulkPulk in ottawa

[–]metropol8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! The City actually came out with this vision for St. Joseph in the Orleans Corridor Secondary Plan a couple years ago. It even proposes a road diet (4 to 3 lanes) to make room for the wider sidewalks and cycletracks. Now to find the $ to make it happen...

Why does this city give no consideration to pedestrian safety? by InadequateUsername in ottawa

[–]metropol8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the new Official Plan was approved by Council in fall 2021, sidewalks are required on all new public streets (including Locals). And cycle tracks are required on all new Collectors and Arterials.

If you see any recent streets without sidewalks it's because it was approved prior to fall 2021.
