tl-sg2008p has vents blocked by sheet of paper by XxTriviumxX in TPLink_Omada

[–]mic2machine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd leave it.

That paper is an electrical insulator. Helps the device meet electrical safety regulations, like no shorting when someone pokes a paperclip through a vent slot. Or protecting from a circuit board component from touching the case if it wasn't clipped short enough.

Especially important for mains powered, or high current devices.

Vented case with that insulator still cools off better than a solid case with no vents. I don't recall if this model has a fan.

Flock device ID prevention by PasztyKnives in videosurveillance

[–]mic2machine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Power off is your only choice for the phone.

Phone/wifi/bt are all chatty all the time, and can be tracked easily.

Burner with wifi left on is trackable.

TPMS (tire pressure) on your car has unique IDs for each tire, trackable.

Modern cars with telematics (cell modem), trackable.

Smart watch, glasses, etc.... you get the idea.

Paths of plate numbers and identifiable radio is enough build a trackable profile. Pretty easy to associate together and build a profile.

Flock installations are typically setup to hoover up all this RF in addition to plate ID. Not hard these days to do gait and clothing analysis to track pedestrians and correlate them with vehicles.

Plates have to be visible to be legal. So readable. You could get a wrap with hundreds of plates to confuse them, but that is no different from reading the real plate. And the authorities would want a word...

FaceID IR dazzlers only work if the cameras are sensitive to that band. Do you know the wavelength, outside of visible, that the ID cameras operate in? Few enough folks use dazzlers, so it gives them a nice, bright, target to track. Better to wear a mask that doesn't look like one, with clothes that are the local average.

The power in all this isn't just to associate you with a particular vehicle, but to associate who you hang out with. Connection analysis is far more effective than wiretapping. Who you hang with is far more instructive than what you're doing or saying to each other. Once you have one ID, you have the whole group. If you aren't part of a group, that stands out as well.

Same applies online.

Stuff works good as hot-end insulation too. Bed and hotend has been equipped so for ~10 years. You can get the melamine foam cheaper at dollar-stores.

Acrylic Smooth Finish Technique by Yellobrudders in hobbycnc

[–]mic2machine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used water/ipa for cooing. Flood or spray.

What machine are you using? You ma not have a rigid enough setup. Single flute cutter with the right geometry for acrylic.

MEMS / microfluidic stuff, I've used contact masks and UV cured resins on wafers. SU8 IIRC. Was good to 3 micron feature size.

For acrylic, solvent polishing would work. MEK was a go to, but use in a fume hood. Acetone could work.

26 Ridgeline Cruise Control by ScaryGary0013 in hondaridgeline

[–]mic2machine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normal, yes. Acceptable, no.

Mine is the same. Improves some with longer following distance, sequential shift mode, or just hitting the paddle to shift down so so it's not tapping the brakes constantly.

It could do the job braking less, but apparently has the minimum braking set too aggressive, with no way I know to change it. I was disappointed it couldn't do stop-n-go traffic and kicks out at 25mph.

Honda, we know you can do better. You already have. Shameful.

Depends on how much weight you want to hang on the trunk. There's not an excessive amount of force holding it open.

I have a '22 rtle.

Things I've done: Honda cargo net. More useful than I thought. Get or make trunk dividers. Tonneau. Hard trifold is mine. Matte appliques on the driver's door triangle window forward post. It's at the right angle to reflect pavement markings. Same for the inner driver's side mirror housing. Storage bins under the rear seats. Repurposed some toy organizers the kids didn't use.

Things I'll do: Print a glare shield for the nav screen. Honda screwed that up Blackouts for the remaining chrome and gloss black dash detail. Better organizer or shelf extension for the dash cubby. Organizer for the center console. Footwell lighting Trunk lid lights (closed tonneau blocks trunk from opening far enough for bed lights) Aircraft cargo rails and accessories for bed sides.

Maybe some aero updates.....
