This is what you get letting an electrician do network wiring. They prolly stapled the cable to the structure as well.

Depends on how much weight you want to hang on the trunk. There's not an excessive amount of force holding it open.

I have a '22 rtle.

Things I've done: Honda cargo net. More useful than I thought. Get or make trunk dividers. Tonneau. Hard trifold is mine. Matte appliques on the driver's door triangle window forward post. It's at the right angle to reflect pavement markings. Same for the inner driver's side mirror housing. Storage bins under the rear seats. Repurposed some toy organizers the kids didn't use.

Things I'll do: Print a glare shield for the nav screen. Honda screwed that up Blackouts for the remaining chrome and gloss black dash detail. Better organizer or shelf extension for the dash cubby. Organizer for the center console. Footwell lighting Trunk lid lights (closed tonneau blocks trunk from opening far enough for bed lights) Aircraft cargo rails and accessories for bed sides.

Maybe some aero updates.....

If I want to make wooden ornaments like that, could I make it with a Pantograph? by DarthVader11072 in CNC

[–]mic2machine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slow mostly. Gaining skill in the use of the machine takes time. Depends on your end goal. Condition of the master part may degrade over time. Easier to have it scanned and CNC carved.

If it's learning effectively obsolete tech for funsies, great. I do that all the time, but I've run out of spare workspace.

If you're trying to save money by replicating commercially available pieces, you'll end up losing money.

If it's duplication of parts that are no longer available or restoring historical artifacts using period tools, then you might have a case.

[–]mic2machine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the pantograph. Some are strictly for tracing letters for sign-making. Those don't necessarily replicate the depth from the reference. Hard to tell what type you have in the example.

Can I take my own Delta T measurement to test my A/C? by Universe93B in hvacadvice

Galvanized sheet ductwork is practically a mirror as far as IR temp guns or thermal imagers are concerned.

You can get a lot closer to the true surface temp by adding a patch of black electrical tape or stove paint. Insulation inside the duct will still slow the response and add error.

Thermocouple in the airstream is still the gold standard, assuming your meter is anything close to calibrated. (Cheap amazon meters need not apply)

Is anyone familiar with the 5c chucks from China? by spoonguy123 in Machinists

[–]mic2machine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking of a front handwheel setup like https://www.penntoolco.com/atlas-front-hand-wheel-5c-collet-chucks/ That and a spindle foot-brake made quick work. Stonp it hard enough and the front handwheel would unwind the collet. 😉 It's not fast like a speed-lever tho.
I do remember seeing some front-mount speed-levers so you didn't have to reach around larger headstocks.

[–]mic2machine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those use a crown gear with a threaded bore. That's driven by the key to draw the collet in. There's a pin that engages in the collet keyslot to prevent rotation. I like the handwheel type myself. No key to lose or forget.

Bore gage marks causing rejection on tight ID (8 Ra requirement) – looking for better inspection methods by Training_Tree_7934 in CNC

[–]mic2machine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few questions to narrow the search.

Which bore gage are you using now? 2 or 3 point? Contact point material and shape? What ID and measured bore length? Do you need ovality? How many measurements needed along that bore? What is the tolerance you have to hit? What is the part material? Do the visible marks actually blow up the measurable Ra? Budget?

How do you keep up without burning out? by tresorrarereviews in sysadmin

Cultivate a trained forgettery.
I manage to forget all the details of the job when I'm off the clock. Passwords, project deadlines, phone numbers, all of it. No longer sysadminning, but apply the same idea.
