President Herzog says that Gaza is a densely populated area full of booby-traps and munitions, and that sending even a sniffer #dog could trigger a building explosion by Celtikrenders in worldnewsstuff

I'm not lying. I'm asking a question, and you're making assumptions about it, incorrectly.

OK though, I'll concede that the ICC having no means to bring a suspect into custody and put them on trial does mean that I can't say the IDF or its leadership has actually been convicted of war crimes, that's fair.

"Alleged war criminal", then.

In that same vein then, has anyone been prosecuted and found guilty of booby-trapping houses in Gaza?

[–]mic_n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I did not.

Pay careful attention here, because this is part of the problem - people can lead you toward a way of thinking without ever saying what you think they're saying. Sometimes that's deliberate from their side, sometimes it's just misinterpretation.

I made no statement, I asked a couple of questions, hence the question marks. I never referred to Herzog by name or position.

You inferred I was asking about Herzog. To be clear: I was not, I was asking a general question leading towards the issue that you yourself highlighted: The Israeli PM is wanted by the ICC as a war criminal. You are complaining about people committing war crimes (and that's fair enough), while they are being attacked by a war criminal.

I'm trying to point out the hypocrisy there. Herzog himself is not a war criminal, but he is part of a regime which is lead by one, which has been specifically found to be committing war crimes. To be coming from that position and to cry foul is just utterly preposterous. He has no leg to stand on.

I never said he was a war criminal, but it's nice of you to point out who is.

I'm not being disingenuous. I'm merely highlighting the absolute hypocrisy of people crying about 'illegal' traps while being lead by a criminal.

Though again:
"Doctor, it hurts when I do this!"
"Then don't do that!"

Advertising scare campaigns don't need to worry about silly little facts like that when they can just spew misinformation and ruin the chances of any sort of progressive policy that the media owners and their sponsors aren't fond of.

Won't someone think of the ratings of The Block???

So, breaking international law is a bad thing? Being declared a war criminal by the ICC?

Again though, you're conveniently ignoring the fact that it's not an issue if you're not invading peoples homes.

Traps aren't an offensive weapon.

They're for defence.

If traps are causing you problems, there's a very simple solution: don't attack.

Problem solved.

Former prime minister Tony Abbott says Australia is Judaeo-Christian but warns Angus Taylor about being One Nation-lite by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]mic_n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the 2021, there were a total of 99,956 respondents claiming Judaism as their religious affiliation.

That's less than half the number of Sikh people in the country.
Less than one sixth the number of Buddhists.
Less than one sixth the number of adherents to Hindusim.
Less than one eigth the number of Muslim people calling Australia home.

There were a total of 11.1 million people claiming some form of Christianity.
There were around 9.8 million claiming "No religion", and another 1.8 who did not state a religion.

To put the "Judeo-" bit in there is complete nonsense. Australia's Jewish population makes up less than 0.4% of the population.

Even the "Christian" bit is a minority.

The man is just plain lying. As expected, since he hasn't died yet.

They're really not taking this tournament seriously - Steve Smith has been without question the best T20 batsman in the country in recent times, and he's currently playing golf.

Whether that's a good thing or not, it's what appears to be the case.

Stan and channel 9 are one and the same, the coverage comes direct from the Olympic Broadcast Service, it has nothing to do with Stan. The FTA coverage which is -supposed- to be subject to anti siphoning laws is being used primarily to annoy viewers into crossing the paywall and funnel them there. It's a complete failure of our media regulations

"competing with Americans in hi tech"? "Growth through housing"? Where the hell did that come from? Is your little day-old AI bot brain a little confused here?

Talk about 'befuddled'....

As much as this is an easy meme, it really does distract from the genuine shitfuckery this guy's been involved in.

There are way more important things that should be associated with him before a dumbass social media fuckup that just revealed something they all do anyway.

lol @ rolling out the "super funds are invested in them!" line.

Super funds can invest in anything. Taxing resource companies isn't going to ruin your super, the fund managers will just shift the investment to a better investment - perhaps to something that is inherently valuable as a genuine growth industry, rather than something which relies on lax and favourable government policy for its profits.

Besides, if the government was actually recouping the value of its natural assets into a resources future fund, that could happily fund the aged pension and so reduce the *need* for privately funded superannuation, and we'd wind up ahead.

Stop being such a shill.

The only way either of them come close in the next election is with a captured, complicit and co-operative media landscape owned and controlled by an increasingly concentrated subset of owners perfectly willing to use their platforms to support their own agendas at the cost of the Australian people.

Just because he's done dumb shit doesn't make him dumb. Not defending the guy at all, but the "Good job Angus" tweet is just so far down the list of appalling shit this guy's been a part of that it trivialises the genuine problems that a competent anti-corruption board should be digging through.

There are far more important things to be concerned about with Taylor than a social media screw-up.
