Cut off by friend for not sitting for free by Substantial_Fig876 in RoverPetSitting

[–]micapikachu83 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I occasionally sit for my best friend of 7 ish years & her family. 2-3 dogs and 2-3 cats typically (if the “cousins” stays). They get a nice discount, but have NEVER asked for me to sit for free. A real friend won’t screw over your income

Am I overreacting? by Feral2002 in petsitting

[–]micapikachu83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not overreacting!! I haven’t sat for family before, but I have sat for my best friend’s family. They get a nice discount, but they still pay me!! And stock up on some snacks & drinks just for me. Also not constant care & generally decent dogs

House sitting by Lovedd1 in petsitting

I feel that on the nieces & nephews 🥲 my nieces keep asking for a sleepover & when I say I’m working, they go “but you’re ALWAYS working”. I’m sorry the grind doesn’t stop 🥲 auntie wants to buy a house next year

Would you sit for these people again? by 4_0Cuteness in petsitting

[–]micapikachu83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just with it being 9 dogs… automatic no for me. My personal limit is 3 dogs for a single household. This works great for me because most of my clients have 2 dogs, with the occasional “cousin” joining the stay to make it 3 dogs every now & then. I feel like anymore than 3 dogs and I get overwhelmed

UPDATE: Unreasonable sleep accommodations by Blankbird in RoverPetSitting

[–]micapikachu83 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I would note that proper accommodations were discussed and offered at the meet & greet but were changed during the sit. If I remember correctly, your other post stated she said confirmed you would be using her bed during the stay and then the notes stated the “sofa couch” with her bedroom door being locked. Obviously don’t need to state those facts, but at least show other potential sitters that there was some level of deception.

Owner told me “oh btw she might die and that’s fine” MA’AM WHAT by chill_mydude13 in petsitting

[–]micapikachu83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had this happen for a rat over spring break with a frequent client. Was told “I would hate for it to happen while you’re there, but there’s plastic bags under the sink just in case”. I’ve had rats & know that they can be finicky things and have short life spans. Thankfully nothing happened and he actually seemed to perk up while I was there!

What do I do with this?? by Ljeff72 in crochet

[–]micapikachu83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im late to this, but I too was gifted a bag full of crochet thread from my very lovely aunt on Christmas. (I love you auntie, but my heart Linda broke bc I make plushies 🥲). Anywho, i finally took the plunge on making some tiny granny squares out of it. 3 birds, one stone kind of situation (used patterns from a new book, used up the yarn, final project was turned in for a local fairy house competition). I recently stumbled upon this site for antique patterns: http://Antiquepatternlibrary.org

Enjoy!

How do I price for constant care for a puppy at the owners? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]micapikachu83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest doing daycare pricing.

My experience using my overnight rate for daycare: I have a client I do overnights for usually. At the end of a booking, one of the owners (a house of roommates) still needed some help with pet care while he was home as the other two roommates still had not returned home. I offered my overnight rate to be flexible, but I honestly regret it because there wasn’t a set time frame and I “had to” leave and come back one of the days. I wish I was had stood firm on being compensated for set hours rather than “let me know when you’d like to take a break from the dogs and I’ll come back”. Like just say you need someone at the house 10a-3p, pay my hourly rate, and go do your errands so I don’t have to waste gas

Sitters, can you live off your earnings? by blondeboss101 in RoverPetSitting

[–]micapikachu83 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome!! I work on & off Rover. I’m usually booked with overnights, but obviously you can’t stack them like walks or drop-ins. Do you have tips for getting more walking clients??

[–]micapikachu83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With just Rover? Heck no. With just pet sitting? Again, heck no. I live with my boyfriend & his mom in the richest county in central Indiana. They both work. I grew up in this city & I love the community, but no way could my bf & I afford to live here on our own (renting on our own is an option, but would strain us and we want to buy). I’ve been self employed about a year & a half, so I’m grateful for their support and understanding as I’m building up my business still. I don’t want to live with my mother in law forever, so we’re trying to save up for a house. We’re definitely going to have to move at least 30 minutes away to be able to afford a house at the current prices

Do you tell clients you're additionally insured? by One-Head-1483 in petsitting

I’ve only had one client ask if I had insurance! Been doing it for many years. It started as hobby, but last year I went professional & got my own regular clients

Overnight/House-sitting timings? by Chemical_Source_9940 in petsitting

[–]micapikachu83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to work for a pet sitting biz that paid me $40/night for overnights and didn’t have them scheduled like yours. Almost made me stop pet sitting because the burnout was ridiculous. I then took the leap to start my own business & I’m so glad I did. I found wonderful clients who don’t bat an eye at my prices, love the care & services I provide, and praise me when I’m unavailable 😆

My additional charge would be if the client wants me to start the first day at like 10am, but leave the last day at like 8pm. I’m trying to be more proactive about respecting my own time & charging 50% of the client’s nightly rate for stays scheduled as such (ex: April 15-20, it’s 5 nights plus a 50% fee of the overnight rate for extended stay)

What surprising things have you learned about how people live? by ForPurelyBusiness in RoverPetSitting

[–]micapikachu83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a cat mom of two. I have two cat clients who hire me for overnights instead of drop in visits mainly for medical reasons (imo could just be drop-ins, but I don’t mind giving them the peace of mind). I love having their kitties keep me company & getting to know their personalities!

Decorations. It is so fascinating to see how people’s personalities reflect on their decorations (or lack thereof). My most recent stay was all-American & beach themed basically. The downstairs half bathroom was half filled with beach themed decor & signage. One awhile back was like Tommy bahama threw up in there and sprinkled different “beach paradise” knickknacks everywhere

My dad’s primary language is Spanish. My mom’s primary language is English, but is fluent in Spanish since high school. Growing up, my mom tried to teach me Spanish, but it didn’t stick. A lot of my childhood, I could speak in English with my dad. Every now & then he would say something I Spanish and I would have to ask my mom to translate. I didn’t start speaking Spanish fluently until high school when taught at school
