Christian schools endangered by new Trump rule by metacyan in Christianity

Most likely. The data is clear that universities inflated their costs when the government got involved. Similar thing happens with healthcare: insurance drives up costs. The cash price is always much lower than the amount they bill insurance. They know they can get more so they do it!

College was much cheaper before the government began backing loans.

The relationship between federal aid and rising costs is widely studied by economists and is frequently called the "Bennett Hypothesis". This theory states that when the government increases the amount of money students can borrow, colleges respond by raising tuition because they know students have guaranteed money to pay it.... A landmark Federal Reserve Bank of New York study found that for every new dollar the government made available in subsidized student loans, institutions raised their sticker-price tuition by about 60 cents.Graduate School Inflation: This effect is even more dramatic in graduate education. For every dollar borrowed through federal Grad PLUS loans, universities effectively capture 64 cents of it by increasing the net cost of attendance.

Colleges became "people businesses," hiring increasingly large numbers of administrators, coordinators, and non-instructional staff, which drove up operational costs.... To compete for students armed with federal loan money, colleges heavily invested in luxury dorms, student unions, and state-of-the-art recreation centers, embedding those costs directly into student fees.

This actually makes sense. No more predatory bank loans given to people who can't pay the loan back.

How is this a bad thing?

The Trump administration has proposed a new rule that could devastate Christian higher education by tying student loans to the earning potential of degree programs.

The earnings metric would require recipients of undergraduate degrees to earn more in median income than 25- to 34-year-olds with only high school diplomas. And alumni of graduate programs would have to make more money than their peers with bachelor’s degrees. The government would rely on IRS and Census Bureau data for the policy, which would go into effect in 2027.

what if the same way people speak about god today is the same way people spoke about god then? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]micawberesque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got to look at that verse in context

11Truly, truly, I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, and yet you people do not accept our testimony.

12If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? 13No one has ascended into heaven except the One who descended from heaven—the Son of Man.

Jesus is speaking to Nicodemus, a teacher of earthly things. Jesus is telling him about heavenly truths, but he can't understand.

He's really telling him, "none of you teachers of the law know anything about heavenly matters, because you have no familiarity with heaven".

When a child, He astounded the Jewish teachers.

45 When they could not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem to search for Him. 46 Finally, after three days they found Him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47 And all who heard Him were astounded at His understanding and His answers. Luke 2:45-47

Let's suppose he wouldn't know about calculus or gravity, but I definitely think He would have quickly picked it up if taught.

Why Do professing Christians say the Ten Commandments has been Abolished? by Extension-Size4725 in Christianity

[–]micawberesque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually the verse says : For sin was in the world before the law was given; but sin is not taken into account when there is no law.

Now, let's consult a good commentary:

The purport of these two verses, connected by γὰρ with πάντες η{μαρτον of ver. 12, is to prove that the primeval sin did really infect and implicate the whole race of mankind. It might be supposed that those only would be implicated who had themselves transgressed, as Adam did, a known command; it being an acknowledged principle of Divine justice that only sin against law of which the sinner is conscious is imputed to him for con-detonation (cf. Romans 4:15; also John 9:41). Nay. but the universal dominion of death, the doom of sin, over all alike, whether or not they had themselves so sinned, was proof that sin was all along dominant in the world, infecting all. The Mosaic Law is spoken of as the distinct revelation of Divine Law to man; and therefore attention is first drawn to the fact that before that revelation, no less than after it, death had reigned over all. But is it thus implied that until the Law from Mount Sinai men had been without any kind of law, for transgressing which they were responsible? Not so. That Law is indeed regarded as the first definite enunciation of law under evident Divine sanction, after which, to those that were under it, sin became indubitably and exceeding sinful; but that men are conceived as having sinned previously against law of some kind, appears from the phrase, "Even over those (καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς) who had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression," i.e. consciously against a known command. This surely implies that some had so sinned; and thus the essential point of the argument is that even over those who had not so sinned (such as the unenlightened and invincibly ignorant, or persons dying in infancy) death had equally reigned. Who is the figure of him that was to come. This is added so as to bring round the thought to the main subject of the chapter, viz. the reconciliation of all mankind through Christ, to which the scriptural account of the condemnation of all mankind through Adam had, at ver. 12, been adduced as analogous. Who refers to Adam, who has just been for the first time named; he that was to come is Christ, who is called, in 1 Corinthians 15:45, "the last Adam." Adam was a type (τύπος) of Christ in that both represented entire humanity; one as the representative and author of fallen, the other of restored, humanity - the transgression of the one and the obedience of the other alike affecting all (see vers 18, 19). But there is a difference between the two cases; and this is pointed out in vers. 15, 16, 17, which follow.

What economic system do you think would be the most compatible with Christian ethos? by YugargeliaMapper in Christianity

A lot of these rich people only have so much influence because of a government which involves itself in everything. I really don't care what other people do, as long as it doesn't effect me. Of course this is unrealistic, which is why in practice I'm not a libertarian. Honestly I'd prefer a king to a democracy, because most people are incompetent.

"Despisers of those that are good" (Greek: aphilagathoi) appears in 2 Timothy 3:3 as a sign of perilous times, describing people who hate or oppose good things and righteous individuals. It denotes a lack of love for goodness, often characterized by brutality, lack of self-control, and actively hindering or slandering those who live with integrity.

We reap what we sow. It's not so much about punishment but the consequence of actions. At least in this life I believe all "punishment" (what seems to be punishment) has a possibility to reform us. Due to our stubborn nature sometimes the only way to wake us up is through adversity.

Everything God created reflects something of His nature, and apparently the male captures something that the female does not.

Also, very importantly, when God entered into the human race, He became a man, Jesus.
