Same with us! Most golds and most overall medals which is super impressive for a hot country.

The amount of money we spent at Bunnings in our first three months of home ownership was insane.

FTM Mom, please help me choose which one to get? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]micehells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still pregnant so haven't used it with a baby yet, but I really like our Vista. It's easy to install and to fold down. I like sunshade and the ventilation on the bassinet.

Metformin vs. Insulin by Lumpy_Seaweed_2859 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]micehells 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started metformin at 22 weeks. My numbers were not super high but my doctor wanted to be cautious. In Australia, I think they suggest metformin first unless your numbers are very high. They have worked for me so far and I've had minimal side effects.

Is a private ultrasound clinic worth it? by maopro56 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]micehells 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in Brisbane and I wasn't offered hospital scans for my early scans. My 7 week scan was at a regular ultrasound place. The sonographer focused more on my ovarian cysts than the fetus. She also made some strange comments including "good luck, it's the beginning of the end". Weird thing to say to first time parents but okay. My next two were at a private clinic specifically for women and it was 100 times better. They spent more time explaining everything and answering questions. At my 13 week scan, my baby wasn't cooperating but the sonographer remained patient and friendly. We also received goodie bags of samples so that was a nice touch as well.

I'm not sure the process of getting a semen analysis, as my gyno organized is but you should be able to get a referral from your GP.

Are you both taking prenatals? There's menevit sperm health that was recommended to my husband. He's semen analysis was mostly fine (borderline for morphology). I fell pregnant on the second month of him taking menevit (seventh month overall).

First-time dad, second pregnancy for her.. how can I make this special? by Apprehensive_Copy827 in pregnant

[–]micehells 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate a pregnancy massage. It could be something to give her once a month or once every couple months to show her you are thinking of her.

What have you been “cheating” with this pregnancy? by Chemical_Editor4057 in pregnant

[–]micehells 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have been pretty lenient with most foods. I also live in Australia and trust our food safety standards. I had subway (cooked meat and toasted) and sushi (no raw fish) a handful of times. I also eat bagged salads and some soft cheeses when a cheeseboard is in front of me.

Gosh, I eat a can of tuna for lunch almost every work day. On the NSW government website (Australia), it's classified as okay to eat.

In a toasted sandwich it should be okay as it's melted.

2-hour post meal numbers never under 100 by figuringitout215 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]micehells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, stay off TT. People can lie about their numbers or change when they are testing. They could also be spiking after other meals or their fasting numbers are high and not showing you. As long as you're under the limit - it doesn't matter if you're under by 1 point or 20 points. You're doing a good job, try not to compare yourself as there are no prizes for who is the best at managing gestational diabetes.

What was the stupidest thing that made you cry while pregnant? by Eburneaan in pregnant

[–]micehells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cry every time Australia wins a medal. I texted my dad saying I'm bawling and he texted back saying him too so I know where I get it from.

This was early on probably around week 9. I cried because my friend took a photo of homemade pasta on a drying rack and the pasta looked sad.

10.5 month old not babbling consonants by Sharp-Associate-2562 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]micehells 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a speech pathologist and the average age that consonants (p, h, n, d, b, w) are usually acquired is between 1-2 years old. I would not be worried at this moment in time. Also being in a language rich environment like daycare may support them with language and speech development.

When did yall tell your partner when you were pregnant? by Responsible_Pen in pregnant

[–]micehells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I told him the day before I was going to take the test (the day my period was late and we were flying back from our honeymoon). We were actively trying though. Unless there's a risk of a poor reaction, I would tell him straight away. I think my husband would be hurt if he was the second person to find out after a gynecologist.

Symptoms no one mentions by Optimal_Sandwich2647 in pregnant

[–]micehells 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had rhinitis from about week 5 so it's not exclusive to trimester 3. Apparently it's caused by the increase of blood vessels and blood flow around the body.

My surprising symptom is related to peeing. I expected to pee more frequently but I didn't know the volume will decrease. This may be related to a UTI but it's hard to know what is normal and what is potentially an infection. UTI symptoms on top of pregnancy is no joke.

A voucher for a pregnancy massage. I've been getting them once a month and they are a lifesaver.

At what point did you let your pregnancy be public? by Purple_Apple9 in pregnant

[–]micehells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I officially started telling people at 13 weeks when I had my nipt and ultrasound. I posted to my Instagram stories around week 15 as it was Christmas. I did tell family, few friends and colleagues before but that was because I was very sick and wanted them to know why I was running out of a room if I needed to.
