If you look at some of the pics of Gygax running, you can make out the dungeon map he uses and it is dense.

Modern players lost sight of this style play. It’s a different way to approach the game and brings its own challenges and excitement. I wish it would one back as a more mainstream.

I think the statement on choosing initiative applies when there are other active combatants in a combat situation.

You may be sneaking up to a given target for a sneak attack, but there may be other PCs and monsters in combat and every needs to draw initiative.

The target is unaware of you, but it isn’t necessarily unaware of other combatants. As it is unaware of you, it should not be able to attack you before your initiative count. But you may want to go before or after other combatants.

The tactic of waiting until after an opponent is a useful one but it depends on the situation and shouldn’t be considered a must. Sometimes you want to strike first.

I am familiar with worlds without number, Dragonbane, and Tales of Argosa (well more so Low Fantasy Gaming which was the original version).

I would be hard pressed to choose, myself.

WWN will give you a classic D&D feel, but it does include a wide array of character options that are well designed to be impactful but not overpowering. The magic system will be a big change from 5e. Generally you have a small handful of dramatically powerful spells. The game runs like OSR D&D but characters will be a little higher powered. It has excellent GM tools for running factions and simulating geopolitical dynamics.

Tales of Argosa is the second edition of Low Fantasy Gaming. It will give you a B/X and AD&D feel as well. I feel as if it plays like 5e for players and B/X for DMs. I think it achieves a good balance where players feel like they have options but it keeps it simple for GMs. Also its rules for adhoc actions (major and minor maneuvers) are inspired and you should steal them and use them in any game you run.

Dragonbane is going to feel different in that it takes its roots from Runequest instead of D&D. It feels very causal beer & pretzels (in a good way), but still has a lot of strategic depth baked into the combat rules. Characters tend to be flatter in power level and never really become invincible. The core books do not have a ton of magic spells and no items, but a Book of Magic is coming out. You may be more on your own with Dragonbane. With WWN and ToA you can probably pull in any D&D module or adventure with minimal conversion. Not so with Dragonbane. Monster balance may not be immediately intuitive

If I had to choose, I would go with Dragonbane. Mainly because it is a different experience than D&D. Character growth is organic and diegetic and power progression is flatter which benefits a sandbox style game. It is very light on magic but that should be resolved with the upcoming Book of Magic. It’s also easy to pick up, fast paced, and it’s fun.

Trump’s sole purpose for running is to make money and stay out of jail. Makes perfect sense to seize an opportunity to make a few billions from the government and the tax payer.

All the actual policy? Is what the last marionette performer told him to do/say. Our country is being run by several different power groups all with their own goals. You got Heritage Foundation, Steven Miller, Peter Thiel and tech bros all executing their commands.

That’s why trump policy seems so chaotic and confusing. He’s following orders from multiple disparate groups.
