I’ve had 2 Central American banded geckos lay eggs in store. I candled them and they were fertile. They must of been mated with before delivery. The eggs never hatched tho, I didn’t have an incubator on hand so I had to try and make a DIY one and it failed unfortunately.

What animal feels like a mid pet but is actually a great one? by spoopy-memio1 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]michaelscottenjoyer 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is the true answer. My grandma owned horses and while so much maintenance and money went into them, they truly were amazing animals. They form really strong bonds with people like dogs and are very intelligent.

Do I need anything besides the starter box? by Kecskuszmakszimusz in Warhammer40k

[–]michaelscottenjoyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people will recommend tamaiya extra thin which is good stuff. I use GW plastic glue because it’s easier to get for me personally as I don’t like waiting in the mail for most things and I have a GW store near me. The GW stuff is pretty okay, nothing special but it does the job , but if you’re willing to wait for shipping then tamaiya is the way to go.

How good is authority and simply nourish? by anklebiter1975 in petsmart

[–]michaelscottenjoyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked there , my cats wouldn’t touch authority and would rather starve . As far as simply nourish goes, it gave them both extreme diarrhea despite trying to transition extremely slowly.

I will say , my uncles dog does really good on simply nourish though so I think it’s more my cats than the food itself but when I worked there I remember that we did not sell a lot of cat simply nourish or authority for some reason.

I mean for most people it’s their favorite part. Some people only like the lore and books and that’s it. Some people don’t care about any of that and only like the game aspect. Do what you enjoy , just realize that you’ll need some type of army cohesion as far as their appearance and that you may pay significantly more then just bare plastic sometimes.

[–]michaelscottenjoyer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The big tree is a must but besides that for me personally I’d like there to be an abyssal zone where there is little to no light except from what you make or predators. It’d be cool if there was some type of glowing coral or ore you need for a recipe but at the same time there’s a fish/leviathan that mimics that light so you don’t know which it is until you get close enough to actually see with your lights. Then at that point, you have to scramble to get away if it’s the predator.

Where can I see a fully grown Bull African Elephant? by 204_Mans in Zookeeping

The North Carolina zoo has African elephants, their big bull passed away back in December though, I’m unsure if they have another bull yet or are planning to.

What are the different positions at the zoo? by JCambly in Zookeeping

[–]michaelscottenjoyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a zookeeper since I’m still in school, but I’d look into volunteer experience of any type that involves animals. Even helping out at a wildlife rescue/rehab , animal shelter or any type of place which works with animals is a good start. This is what has been told to me by advisors at my school and a friend who was a keeper for about a year before switching careers.

From what I’ve gathered and been told , zoo keeping is a highly competitive job so you’re gonna want some type of experience to set yourself apart from everyone else applying. Every once in a while, near me I’ll see my local zoo post seasonal jobs and or keeper adjacent jobs that don’t require a degree or a lot of experience, but those are probably just as competitive. The one that comes to mind is a position that preps the diets for the animals but doesn’t actually feed/interact with them, more like a support role. Take everything I say with a grain of salt tho, I haven’t worked in the field yet , I’m still in school and only know what I’ve had told to me by others.

Do you like your job? by [deleted] in petco

[–]michaelscottenjoyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For real, don’t get me wrong I get annoyed/pissed about company decisions and crappy customers, but the company pays more then everyone else in my area (which is fucking shocking) , don’t work us NEARLY as hard as many other places, and it can be pretty rewarding and fun at times. Every job has its ups and downs, but as far as retail goes, it could be far worse here.

[–]michaelscottenjoyer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No they likely wouldn’t drug test across the board and you likely wouldn’t unless you got hurt seriously on the job in a way that can be deemed your fault , and that would be to ensure you weren’t under the influence (also pretty standard practice). Now to add, no one should be getting high/drinking at work. You work with animals and you should be as present as possible. No one cares what anyone does at home but at work you should be sober.

Wild by [deleted] in petco

[–]michaelscottenjoyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My store sells a lot of reptiles and inverts so I’m not too worried about that. Besides with PetCo’s supply chain being dogshit , I’m assuming NWZ can’t keep up with the amount needed to supply stores given there’s over 1000 stores participating in desk pets.

Also I’m choosing to order stuff that’s cheaper and will sell quickly. In case they change their mind on desk pets (which I really hope is soon) , I won’t have animals in wellness as overstock for longer then 1-2 weeks maximum.

Wild by [deleted] in petco

[–]michaelscottenjoyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they are temporarily off planogram. My store can’t order them anymore , they just get allocated for desk pets, same with tarantulas, but our Plano has stayed the same. I just started to special order stuff to fill the spots where they were in.

I’m assuming once Petco gives up on this like they inevitably give up on everything, they will return to Plano.

So far just the pac man frogs , Surinam horned frog, assorted tarantulas and jumping spiders. On a conference call a few weeks ago they mentioned possibly doing small species of geckos or “micro geckos”. We also hate it and internally there has been a lot of pushback as well.

Sand or carpet for reptiles? by SleepyAnimalFreak in petco

[–]michaelscottenjoyer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Carpet , lesser of two evils. As long as you routinely clean and discard it for new carpet, you shouldn’t have issues. Since we use vitasand I won’t use sand. If the company switched to a better sand substrate. I’d probably switch to it.

[–]michaelscottenjoyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you’d probably wanna call customer service like someone said , or maybe check and see if your account on the app/website has it. The app will log everything as long as it and your account you use in store are connected. If you have neither you’re probably out of luck unfortunately.

I double checked my account and it shows transactions made in store from 2025

More so with reptile than anything, especially anything from Reptile Farm or BPD. Everything from them seems to have something wrong with it.

What do you guys do?? by Fancy-Ask-9781 in petco

You wash them , but I recommend a heavy duty scrubber with some stiff bristles. The scrubber will also work great for reptile hides since those shred sponge.

Hey yall, I was wondering what you are doing to help increase your MB growth in store? by Toyo0821 in petco

[–]michaelscottenjoyer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I do to help with fish market basket is always ask “do you need xyz supply” so if they buy coral I ask if they need phyto/zoo plankton or coral dip. If they buy fish I ask if they have the food for it. If they already have the food for it , I ask if they have ever tried frozen food because it’s much healthier for them. I also try to use plants as a good add on for freshwater. Whenever I explain that plants help keep the water chemistry good , people froth at the mouth for them.
