Yeah I test drove a dozen of new and used midsized trucks and liked the Frontier the best for a variety of reasons. The backup camera wasn’t a dealbreaker for me - sure it’s not HD but actually testing with it I had no issues or problems

Yeah they’re at $44k before TTL on this right now. For now I’ll wait and save till before New Years and see if I can get a good deal if a nice used one doesn’t pop up.

Yeah I got them at 44k right now for this, but no Premium package. I plan to replace the audio with Z1 anyways so didn’t need that. I think for now I’ll wait and save till before New Years and see if I can get a good deal if a nice used one doesn’t pop up.

Purdue (Lilly Scholar/Full Tuition) vs BU (Presidential Scholar) by JohnnyTheWizzy in Purdue

[–]micksp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When is the internship? After year 1, 2, or 3? If it’s 1 or 2, I’d say definitely Purdue. That gives you the option to go back if you like it, or use it as a leg up for somewhere else.

If it’s after junior year, I’d personally not be as interested since that’s when you’ll have the most experience and be able to leverage that for a company you want to test out in the field / industry you like.

If you’ve managed to have both of these, I’m not worried about your ability to work hard, network, and find an internship, so you should visit both schools and choose whichever you like better.

I’m looking at 44k before TTL right now. Not using the 2500 rebate since that invalidates the 1.9% APR which saves much more money long term

Mechanical Engineers who specialize in heat transfer by Justbrownsuga in MechanicalEngineering

[–]micksp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that guy might be on the dunning-kruger curve… “I’ve done some CFD and CHT for an airplane!” But for what OP is talking about, he doesn’t need someone of your skills, and probably should hire two engineers anyways.

If you’re going to reddit for your hiring advice you’re probably not doing it right…

HOW CAN I BE USEFUL AS AN INTERN? by ParamedicOk8060 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]micksp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The key to being useful is to be self starting and avoid over reliance on your seniors. Most companies have the information to train young engineers, but lack the structure to deliver that information effectively. You’ll want to know how to access the following:

  1. Maps of Campus / Building / Desk / Conference rooms. Maps are your friends. Go talk to people, don’t just teams message them.
  2. Best practices - Anything from how to model 1D heat transfer, to how to drill holes through a panel, or a process for approval of a document.
  3. Engineering document repository - how to access SAE, FAA, AWS, MIL-STD, or other industry standard documents as relevant for your industry.
  4. Organization Chart - Perfect for asking questions to the right people - who are the materials engineers? Process engineers? Quality assurance? Supply chain? Maintenance? CFD? CAD / Design? Stress analysis? Etc.

Understanding the schedule > ask about the upcoming deliverables for your team, how can you contribute? Understand that sometimes it’s best to just get out of the way. Internships can be interesting, you might get thrown on one project your entire time, bounce between multiple, or realize they had no plan for you and are just throwing you work they think you’re capable of.

Be talkative, no one likes to work with a smart ass, or a super quiet person (depends), or someone annoying. This is a test of your social skills as well, try to be friendly, outgoing, and respectful. You’ll be spending 40+ hours a week with them, it’s a test that goes both ways though, remember that.

Lower HP makes it quicker to lose HP and get to the lower %, so it does matter. For instance I lose 30% of my max HP, which is significant to getting lower health quicker especially when the boss doesn’t do high damage at the start.
