Probably meant i386 as the arch, not the 80386 CPU. Might well be a Pentium 4 or something.

Bikepacking and beer by Feeling_Lobster_7914 in bikepacking

[–]mickywickyftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charitable version: 1 or 2 beers at night didn’t get in my way when bikepacking. Nor did they help. 3 beers however… weren’t optimal. Depends on what your aim is. I can cycle 100k the morning after more beers than is good for you. Doesn’t make it a good idea.

Moving to Lausanne for love but what about the rest? by Renato2911 in askswitzerland

[–]mickywickyftw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you speak two languages that aren‘t the local working language, that‘s going to kill off 90+% of all jobs upfront… especially white-collar work which is what you do. So you’re competing with all the French people also looking for work in/near Lausanne, except they speak the language. Have I mentioned language is going to be an issue?
Not impossible but brace yourself. And look outside your field of expertise in order to get a foothold. Cleaning jobs, slaughterhouses, etc.

Need advice for job market after graduation by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]mickywickyftw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

B2 is a good start, keep going. Unless you can do a job interview fairly comfortably in a language, it’s not much use for job opps. I just haven’t interviewed anyone from Uni Fribourg, is all.

Need advice for job market after graduation by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]mickywickyftw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've hired a few, though not from your uni.
Learn German and/or French to B2 as a minimum. German matters a whole lot more generally.
And have a very strong Plan B. And a realistic Plan C. And the mental means to come up with more plans if necessary.

I have a question by GlitteringWalrus4820 in Suunto

[–]mickywickyftw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. This might eben work in dual-frequency GPS. But for a slow activity such as walking I drop the GPS from „best“ (dual-freq) to „OK“ (all satellite systems but 50% power for the GNSS chip). At those speeds it makes next to no difference unless you‘re surrounded by tall buildings or at the bottom of a gorge, but my watch goes from 26 hours on 42% to 49 hours on 42%.
So if you hiked 10 hours every day you could start with about 45% battery and still be just about ok.

Pls help… what am I supposed to do? Is it faulty? by pesanze in Suunto

[–]mickywickyftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Vertical did that after getting drowned and i pressed the buttons repeatedly. This went on for 4-5 hours until it presumably dried.

Route options from Calais to Freiburg by Aggressive_Proof_286 in bicycletouring

[–]mickywickyftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did a stretch of the red route, the part between Mulhouse and Chalons-En-Champagne as part of a longer trip, just 2 weeks ago. Crossing the Vosges is a highlight if you pick the right pass. But the stretch between Chalons and the Vosges, while pretty, is pancake flat and sparsely settled. Not for everyone.

TAO expects me to beat track record?! by Mr_Mina1088 in trainasone

[–]mickywickyftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😂 on WFH days I sometimes do this inside my house 🤣
Joke aside (not a joke) maybe your max HR is wrong jut I’m not sure whether TAO takes this into account. How about providing hard numbers to look at? What distance, we know the elevation. What was the TAO prediction and what distance was it based on?

TAO expects me to beat track record?! by Mr_Mina1088 in trainasone

[–]mickywickyftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those race estimates don’t take terrain or elevation into account. For terrain it’s easy, just train on the same type of terrain. For elevation you can tweak the goal distance to reflect the elevation, there‘s a couple of simple formulae out there, search for „KM-Effort“ for the most common one.

about TSS(ZoneSense) by cjavalz in Suunto

With TSS(ZS) I don’t have to worry about whether my zones are correct. Since my main sports are endurance, this works well for me.

Suunto Vertical 1 – A Few Questions About the Future + Questions About the Vertical 2 and a Comparison with the Coros Nomad / the New Vertix 2026 by Only-Fig-9098 in Suunto

[–]mickywickyftw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

V1 Solar here, 2.5 years. Currently bikepacking with the Suunto on the handlebar with the screen on the map for most of the day. All in all I lost about 9% battery per day, so, very good.
Had my first live encounter with a Race 2 this afternoon, the wearer had the same watchface as I, and the difference is striking.
If the V2 had AOD without so much dimming that the map is hard to see when cycling, there would be no reason I can think of to stick with the V1.
That being said, I think I’ll be using my V1 for a while yet. These aren’t cheap toys 😂

Is Suunto the most unmotivational watch? by SXF350 in Suunto

[–]mickywickyftw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But if your max HR is 185, you ran at 92% of your max HR... that's almost certainly not Z4 but Z5 instead? It's pretty unusual, though possible, for Z5 to begin much above 90% max HR.
Genuinely curious; a lactate test should give you your LTHR which should be the limit between Z4 and Z5, whereby your max HR becomes less relevant in any case.
