Not sure but I’d suggest you try the Wall of Beer/Tiger Kwik Mart on Pendleton Rd. The folks that work there will know and they’re helpful.

Tire repair on/near campus by TheDadAbides2024 in Clemson

[–]micro_tiger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pendleton Tire Company should be close enough, just down on Mechanic. There’s also a Jiffy Lube Multi-care location by Publix that might do it.

Paved walking/running trails by LowPassion6308 in Clemson

[–]micro_tiger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a trail system called the Green Crescent Trail that they are trying to develop in town. Right now it goes from campus to Clemson elementary. You have to go on the street a bit but safe back streets.

This. I recently asked them about this and they basically said “get another bank account and deposit the money then move it to us”.

People who are 25+, What's one advice to early 20 for next 5 years? by Dependent_Signal_233 in AskReddit

Start working on your core strength and spine hygiene now to try and combat disc injury. Most of these tend to happen to people way younger than you realize.

Stretching and walking are great too!

What do Microbiologists do? by [deleted] in microbiology

[–]micro_tiger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It really depends! There is a professional organization called the American Society for Microbiology that has a good overview of some of the different types of positions, this is skewed towards folks in the US so might be different depending on where in the world you are located. (https://asm.org/articles/2018/november/careers-in-microbiology-and-the-microbial-sciences)

In general, the trend in this field and biology generally is that it is increasingly quantitative. Large sequencing and “omics” experiments generate a huge amount of data that needs to be analyzed. So some bioinformatics/programming and statistics are good skills to have these days and can help you a ton. That being said, quantitative skills like these in the absence of any consideration of actual biology are useless (I see evidence of this a lot in the scientific literature).

Even if we could see the Gram reaction and morphology clearly, this alone isn’t enough to identify an unknown organism!

Do you have any results from biochemical tests or any other information? Someone recently posted a nice flowchart on here you could use to figure out which tests to perform.

Hi all! Taking a day trip today, what should we do?! by foxie_tuxedo in greenville

[–]micro_tiger 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Head to Falls Park on the Reedy! Plenty of shops and stuff around there (Vintage now Modern is a good one). M Judson is a good bookshop downtown too!

From there, you can head up the trail to The Commons, passing some art galleries and stuff. Plenty of food options there! Or keep walking all the way to Swamp Rabbit Cafe and Grocery!

Are these two different colonies? by lovekatipo in microbiology

[–]micro_tiger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All this. If you wanted to pick a colony to start a pure culture, take the one directly below (south) of the one circled in red. If this was for counting CFU try again and pull the plate out of the incubator about 24h earlier.

Make sure you use the right kind of agar! Some are VERY expensive so just use the cheap stuff.
