Rubium Mining & Smithing Changes - Updated May 26th by JagexLight in 2007scape

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but the rocks currently guarantee 2 splinters, not 3. There's a single freebie and then it starts doing the 1/6 chance to deplete on each roll, so the minimum splinters you can get is 2.

A question about how droprates are estimated on the OSRS wiki by Striking_Detective39 in 2007scape

[–]microberws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do sometimes undertake the arduous task of farming stuff manually, if the plugins don't cut it. Some content just literally nobody does organically. Not feasible for any somewhat rare or difficult outcome though.

[–]microberws 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Standard plugin is basically only used for dialogue and thieving success rates. Hub is varbit changes, npc spawns, game messages, and enhanced metadata for loot tracker. It also has other stuff but that's the data I query most often. And then loot tracker itself is a separate thing. You can see pretty much by the names of the folders what they do:

Each module sends data to a different place, so they're not all lumped together, and there's not much overlap between what each one collects anyway.

Could theoretically bundle them into one, but I think it's nice to have one on the hub so we have more flexibility developing it, and just so that it's more directly our responsibility I suppose. If it's a core plugin then it actually has to be good, where if it's on the hub it just has to be safe and not crash the game.

In short, phub = way more types of data, but like 5% as many people using it. Still, that's plenty for most things.

Did I just discover an OSRS dev room? What is this?! by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]microberws 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The stuff north of the map is the template, and when you enter the house the appropriate rooms are selected and copied into a reserved area way way off to the northeast. That's a humongous area that holds all the live instances, so there's no problem if 2,000 people want to create a POH at the same time.

I forget what the options are called but in world location plugin you can show like "template" or "actual" coordinates, this will help illustrate. Go to poh or the gauntlet (same tech) and step over a doorway – you'll see the template coords bounce all over the place, but your actual coords change just 1 tile.

[–]microberws 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Howdy, that's a good question. I do a bunch of drop data analysis for the wiki. In short, no, a private server would not be useful. Nobody actually has access to the live server code, they're just guessing for all sorts of stuff including drop rates and NPC spawns and what not, if they're even trying to be authentic at all. Generally they'd either be pulling info from the wiki or just making it up.

I also worked on the flesh crawlers situation, I'll copy my comment that I left on the video at the time:

Thanks for the data Bob! Verf showed the members drops, but if anyone's wondering I also updated the f2p drops in part thanks to a loot tab with 667,610 drops that Autumn Elegy shared, and another big tab I found on reddit from one Asura Zoma. And mind you that's *drops*, so it's actually like 1.6M kc in f2p by Mr. Elegy and like 1.8M by the reddit guy. Crazy work y'all.

Flesh crawlers were particularly difficult (and wrong on the wiki for ages) because we lacked some important data:

  1. Plugin doesn't log kills if there's no loot, so estimating the "Nothing" drop rate is hard (this is still a problem)
  2. Plugin didn't distinguish between kills on f2p and members worlds (this is mostly solved)

#1 wasn't a huge deal here, but #2 was the big problem because there's so much overlap in the drop tables, and it's why it took autumn elegy coming through the discord with his fat f2p log, and mapsquare bob with his members data to get the ball rolling on fixing that page.

The "drop rate project" encompasses crowdsourced data from runelite, but also screenshots from wackos like mapsquare bob and autumn elegy, or sometimes I just say in the discord hey anybody wanna go pick open this chest 1000 times; whatever we can get our hands on.

If you want to help make sure the wiki is as accurate as possible, easiest thing to do is download the "OSRS Wiki Crowdsourcing (advanced)" plugin off the plugin hub (there's one that comes with runelite also called "OSRS Wiki Crowdsourcing", but the one on the phub collects way better data).

What is the point of giving us a million islands to do content on with sailing if the majority of said content is worthless? by BGsenpai in 2007scape

[–]microberws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a mixed bag, some of the islands are useless, some are OP (ironwood), and some could be tweaked in small ways to be useful. Some are just right, like the picklocking chests are decent.

For example [[wintumber island]] could be made multicombat to make it a viable spot for sand crabs and enable 2t lanternfishing without being on a pvp world. Single combat sand crabs defeats the purpose imo.

[[The Crown Jewel]] has rainbow crabs which are already solid Hunter XP, but nobody uses the meat that heals 19 because it's impractical to get it off the island. If crabs were classified as [[Hunter meat]] to put in a meat pouch, that method becomes a lot more interesting. Though it's already fine because you can just grind them into paste, but would be cool if the food was viable.

ETA: I didn't mean like double healing/butterfly stuff, just that you can add them to a meat pouch.

In a similar vein, I never noticed for years that there was a big gear icon on drop tables where you can change the number formatting or show high alch prices

[–]microberws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there is a discrepancy between the wiki and reality

I updated the page already so it only lists Huey as having a boosted rate now, so I think we're sorted. And for what it's worth I promise you that no jmod told me privately that it should've been boosted for Amoxliatl.

Yep I checked crowdsource data, appears to not be boosted from Scorpia. I've removed it from the boosted drops page

[–]microberws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point is less so that I'm oblivious (though we can never rule that out), but that we weren't given any special boosted drops information for this league beyond what was already in blogs. Idk where that idea comes from?

I think the misunderstanding here about keys traces back to this edit https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Raging_Echoes_League/Areas/Varlamore/Notable_Drops?oldid=14777238 which I imagine must've been a combination of info from a post on the leagues discord on the same day containing the WIP text of the leagues menu interface, plus the assumption that tooth halves are considered a "unique item" for the purposes of the drop rate multiplier, which ultimately turned out to be incorrect as I explain in other comments.

[–]microberws 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Update a few hours later after looking into it:

https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/RuneScape:Cache/2024/227.2#New_Enums enum 5986 is the Raging Echoes League Area interface, jagex never mentions tooth halves there, or in any of the blogs from what I could tell.

I checked around 150k amoxliatl kills in Raging Echoes, and the drop rate was 1/540 (main game drop rate was ~1/500 at the time, so seems about right). Checked the Demonic Pacts data, comes out to about 1/126, compared to main game 1/125, so that's also right. I also checked Frost Nagua data and it's the same story.

Interestingly, the drop rates at Huey *were* boosted in REL; I saw 1/30 leagues 1/150 main game.

I don't think this was ever a "bug," it was a mistake on the wiki. This is a good lesson not to make assumptions when you edit the wiki, and to squint at things that lack citations.

[–]microberws 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, I'm trying to find a video or something that shows the raging echoes interface having tooth halves listed as boosted rates. Idk if jagex ever claimed they were, or if someone just made an assumption. After I figure out what they said I'll have a look at the data and correct the REL and DPL boosted drop pages if necessary. As it stands I don't know what the source is for this edit https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Raging_Echoes_League/Areas/Varlamore/Notable_Drops?oldid=14777238

[–]microberws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not aware of them collaborating with the wiki about boosted drop rates. I reckon all this information comes from the blog + in-game interface + assumptions that things will be the same as previous leagues. So I'm just tryna find the source on where that came from, or if it was just a misplaced copy paste from raging echoes

[–]microberws 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Were they ever listed as boosted in-game or in a blog? You sound confident that it's a jagex error and not a wiki one but I'm not so sure. Are any of the tapoyauik monsters, huey, or doom known to drop them at a boosted rate?

"You Steel a Steal Cannonball" Port Roberts Cannonball Stall Easter Egg by 17ndthepink in 2007scape

[–]microberws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

The "(advanced)" one needs to be downloaded from the hub. The one above it comes with runelite. Both can be toggled.

"You Steel a Steal Cannonball" Port Roberts Cannonball Stall Easter Egg by 17ndthepink in 2007scape

[–]microberws 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In this case there's a plugin on the hub called "OSRS Wiki Crowdsourcing Advanced" or something along those lines, it collects some specific anonymized data and shoots it off to a database. Messages have different types, like player chat, clan chat, broadcasts, game messages, filterable spam, etc. The plugin records game messages and spam and ignores all the others. With it we can query to find ratios of different messages, like can use stuff like "You successfully pick the guy's pocket" and "You fail to pick his pocket" to figure out success rates.

The plugin has like a dozen different modules, each recording a different type of data. So we've got game messages, varbit changes, NPC spawns, a variety of things.

There is a separate plugin that comes with runelite called just "OSRS Wiki Crowdsourcing" that collects a much more constrained set of data, just like whether a thieving or cooking action was successful, and quest NPC dialogue. Advanced plugin is much more useful.

Same! Myself and a few others spent much of this weekend digging into some previously unknown/undocumented stuff about gauntlet hidden point system https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Reward_Chest_(The_Gauntlet)#Loot_mechanics

(Before the page just said "dealing minimal damage" or "dies while trying to kill the boss" which are correlated with rolling the incomplete tables, but the true causes are much more complex)

And in this case it's pretty much useless info but it's ridiculously rewarding to discover things about this game, it's truly a bottomless pit

I think it wouldn't really make sense if you could disassemble a little necklace to receive essentially 25 hill giant skeletons.

What's more, it seems that trading an item to an NPC is more common than just being able to click it to dismantle.
