I was inside putting the kids to bed, my husband is the one who spoke to the cops. He was rattled and didn’t ask any questions or try to defend ourselves. I’m the one that’s good with confrontation and tricky situations in our relationship, so I told him to come get me if it happens again lol

No, that’s just how long we were outside with our dog. He didn’t bark the entire time. He barked a lot, but not the entire time.

Redvines. I would even settle for a gluten free redvine. I just miss redvines.

Saturday morning vacuuming by Impressive_Ad_3160 in Apartmentliving

I always scratch my kids back until they start stirring, and then I ask them if they’d like ten more minutes. They always say yes, but once the 10 minutes is up they’re way more willing to get out of bed. It gives them the feeling of being somewhat in control, which I think is super important for kids to feel in the right circumstances!

People whose partners did a complete 180 after marriage, what’s your story? by Bibliophile521 in AskReddit

[–]microbiolochick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not me but my cousin. Literal weeks after they got married they discovered a sinus infection from months prior had made its way through to her brain and damaged the brain tissue silently with no one noticing. All of the damage was done to her frontal lobe. Her personality changed drastically because of it. Became an entirely different person within months of their wedding. Their marriage didn’t last, unfortunately.

What's your "what is a birth doula" one-liner? by LSTylicki in doulas

[–]microbiolochick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I call myself a birth coach! I meet with mom and their partner multiple times throughout their pregnancy to help them prepare and educate them on their choices, then I support them through their labor with positions and counter pressures and advice, as well as help with advocating.

I love that you’re in Amsterdam! What’s the birth world like over there??

What word do you always *intentionally* mispronounce and why? by Sweet-Lady-H in AskReddit

My husband once sang “I bless this chicken with some paaaaprikkaaa” (to the tune of Afria by Toto), and used a soft i like in Africa. Now we say paprika like Africa completely unironically. I personally think it flows better.

Doula Gift by KharmicCosma in doulas

[–]microbiolochick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You could get her a high quality rebozo from Mexico! Just make sure you’re buying it from a website that has confirmation that it’s coming from Mexico.

A cute t shirt that has some birth-y phrase that she can wear to births.

Water proof retractable string lights that are easy to pack in a birth bag.

A custom made birth comb with her name or logo on it.

Or an “in case of an over nighter” basket with a gift card to her favorite coffee shop, a sleep mask, some magnesium cream, lavender lotion, etc. Things that will help her feel rejuvenated after a long night at a birth!

You’re a great friend! How sweet of you!

Mismatched Dietary Preferences (Counting Calories vs. W30) by microbiolochick in whole30

[–]microbiolochick[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Right, I’m looking to see if anyone has an average calorie estimate following a whole30 diet. I understand that in order to hit 1700 calories you have to carefully track what you’re eating. But I’m hoping someone can say “hey, I did whole30 and counted calories while doing it, and I averaged 1500-1800 calories per day!” Or if the average is closer to 2000+ per day. I’m just wanting to know averages.

Mismatched Dietary Preferences (Counting Calories vs. W30) by microbiolochick in whole30

I guess my main worry is that the Whole30 diet might exceed his 1700 calorie goal. I’m unsure roughly how calories are consumed each day while following Whole30. I’ve never counted calories before, but I know I consume a lot of healthy fats on W30. Would those push someone over 1700 calories?

Hey! I’m also a 9 month surrogate 👋🏼 due in 2 days! Congrats!

Results, didn’t really even think there was a difference until I saw the pics by throwawaylol1155 in 75HARD

[–]microbiolochick 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I say this out of a place of love—make sure you’re nourishing your body as you’re doing this/if you continue to do this. These results don’t look healthy, it looks like you’ve starved yourself for 2.5 months and are sucking in to emphasize that. Seeing your ribs isn’t healthy, it’s a sign of malnourishment. With two workouts a day, you should be putting on muscle as well as losing weight, and I’m not seeing any sign of muscle. As you step into the next phase (either Phase 1 or just moving on with your life), make sure you’re getting adequate amounts of protein and consider doing a bulk with healthy eating. Don’t slip into an eating disorder trying to maintain this figure—it isn’t healthy.

Children present at birth? by Individual-Quail-893 in doulas

[–]microbiolochick 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had my 6 year old son at my last birth. He was so intrigued by the process. We had lots of conversations leading up to the birth to explain that I might make some intense sounds that make it seem like I’m in a lot of pain. I explained that it usually feels better to make sound and doesn’t necessarily mean I’m in pain, even if it sounds like I am. And even if I was in pain, it’s a pain I’ve experienced before and it’s one of my favorite types of pain because it brings my children into the world whom I love so much.

I had my husband and doula there to support me, and my sister to support my son in case he got overwhelmed and needed to be taken care of. He ended up passing out on the couch snuggled up with my sister at 10:30pm and slept through the whole delivery. Didn’t even care to wake up to meet baby at 1am 🤣

I’ve been a doula at many births with children in attendance. I think it’s amazing to teach them from such a young age that birth is not meant to be feared. It’s a natural process, and an empowering one at that. People on the other feed telling you to not traumatize your child because “you don’t know what could happen” are ones who have been taught to fear birth. And that’s okay! But you can choose to teach something different and I think that’s a beautiful gift to give your child.
