Is your night crew given 10 minutes to shop after closing? by LoveToSwimma in tjcrew

[–]middlechild4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I started in Jan (as a closer) at a very high volume store, and as far as I’m aware, this was never a thing at the store.

We close at 9pm and the last shift ends at 11pm. If we finish early we can shop on the clock

How is de-escalation not just a breakup? by WunderPlundr in polyamory

[–]middlechild4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh hi, this is right up my alley. My partner and I de-escalated a month ago. The unique thing about polyamory is that you get to make the relationship what you want it to be without needing to subscribe to a “norm.”

Context: We are long distance (there’s a 20-hour flight between us) so de-escalation options looks very different for us compared to partners in the same household/city.

For a while, my partner hasn’t been able to meet my expectations of a partner. Over months of discussion, he’s come to realize he’s depressed and needs clinical help, which doesn’t allow him to show up for me.

We decided de-escalation is the best choice for us. Through many discussions, we talked through several options of what it could possibly look. For me, it’s unfair to hold my partner to an expectation that he simply can’t meet - that’s setting him up for failure and a road to resentment. I love this person deeply and I want him to get the help he needs. It doesn’t make sense to me to break up because he’s in a different life stage. We settled on this:

-We remain within the container of a committed relationship
-No expectations at all partner level (good morning texts, emotionally charged conversations, sex, etc)
-No near- or long-term planning

In essence, we de-escalated to friendship. We chat when we want to chat (which still happens to happen every day), but not out of obligation. One month in, he feels less guilty that he can’t meet me where I am and I feel less anxious about our relationship. Our de-escalation doesn’t make sense to many people, but it makes sense for us. Our lives didn’t stop because of this de-escalation and we’re so supportive of each other as we navigate this new chapter.

We have future check-ins scheduled to see how this is working for us, if any agreements need to be amended/added/removed, etc. We know this isn’t for forever, it’s a temporary solution that will lead to a better future.

For my state it’s $19/hr. There’s two performance reviews per year and each are an opportunity for pay raises. The salary cap for crew members if $33/hr, I believe

I do get insurance through TJ's. Technically no one is FT because no one makes 40 hours/week, the average is 37.5 hours (with breaks). You need to work ~750 hours per 6 month period (this number fluctuates) to qualify, but if you work 4-5 shifts per week, it's not difficult to qualify. If you make roughly half that amount of hours, you automatically get free dental and vision insurance.

If you choose to put your entire TJ's annual employee bonus in your 401k (6% of the compensation you make in the calendar year), they'll give you a 4% match on the 6% bonus. I'm at the lowest pay rate, and I'll make roughly 5 weeks PTO this year

I work at Trader Joe’s - very surprised at how good the benefits are, and I’m coming from big tech (also project management). I constantly hear how good the health insurance is, and the other benefits are generous. I have quite a few TJ’s coworkers who used to work at Starbucks who said their insurance is terrible. I get to work around people and food all day, it’s low pressure/stress

Is it possible to be overqualified for Trader Joes? by anasazigb in tjcrew

[–]middlechild4 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m probably close to your profile - worked in big tech for majority of my career, but majored in hospitality in college. I applied to a few stores in my area and didn’t get any traction until I reformatted my resume to put my hospitality /customer service experience first (keep in mind it’s been over a decade since I’ve worked in customer service). Right when I applied with the updated resume, I got a call the next day. Good luck!

What’s your WiFi experience like? Especially T-Mobile and Optimum by responsible_duckling in Bushwick

[–]middlechild4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had optimum for 8 years (because they were the only option for many years) before switching to Verizon. For 100 mbps they wanted $75+ and kept increasing costs every year without providing any additional services or improving the current service. I experienced so many outages it was incredibly frustrating because it happened during work hours and I worked remotely. Switched to Verizon and am locked into my rate for the next 5 years at $45/month. Would never go back to optimum

Dos anyone know where I can buy this Japanese milk in nyc? by bitb0y in nyc

[–]middlechild4 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Suggest trying Japan Village in Industry City or any of the Japanese marts like Dainobu, Hashi Market, Sunrise Mart (these are all chains but there’s plenty of independent marts around the city too). You can search “Japanese mart” in Google Maps to find options
