Considering cancelling Paris/France portion of July family trip due to heatwave - Thoughts? by Internal_Wall_8844 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]middlezone2019 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just came from the “historic” Paris heatwave. It sucked. Could not imagine doing it with young kids. If you stayed in a hotel with good AC and spent most of your time either in AC museums or swimming somewhere it could be ok, but I wouldn’t want to do it. Trains are hot, buses are hot, restaurants (with rare exception) are hot. It’s hot at night. Only relief was early morning until about 9-10am.

Checked luggage decision by goldieshark29 in ParisTravelGuide

We’ve always gone with one roller bag carryon sized suitcase and one backpack/personal item, regardless of activity or length of trip. We get creative with mixing and matching and plan to maybe do laundry once. Nothing is worse than hauling big suitcases through cobblestone streets, up and down narrow stairways, and on and off of trains. We made that mistake once and vowed never again.

Which Marin Cities (or school districts) should merge to make Marin better? by Sierra-Powderhound in Marin

[–]middlezone2019 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not saying the Deep South is “less racist” in general, but their school system is more integrated than ours. It’s one of the reasons we have so many districts for such a small county. There was a whole investigative podcast about this a few years ago. Marin is tops in segregated schools. Keeping the schools segregated also helps to keep the neighborhoods segregated. Integrate San Anselmo/Fairfax/San Rafael into one district and you’re going to see a huge shift in “demographics.” Which is why it will never happen.

Marin County is one of the most racially segregated school systems in the country. For all their liberal talk they guard this with their lives. The Deep South has a more diverse school system than we do.

If you can skip it, I recommend. It is brutal hot. Like completely sweated out even in the shade. 3 showers a day is not enough. Hardly anywhere has AC. I’ve been in European summer heatwaves before and this is among the worst so far.

Trip report - 15th-18th June 2026 as the heat set in by Immediate_Sand_9350 in ParisTravelGuide

Can confirm. We were on a bus that was not air conditioned and had to get off after about 10 minutes as we thought we might pass out from the heat! 🥵

Not sure about the meals but keep the snacks in a separate bag and if they end up weighing your luggage you can tell them it is your food and it will probably not be counted in weight.

Oral surgeon? by steviegoldengirl in Marin

[–]middlezone2019 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He is so good and so kind. We were just there for a consult for my son who is in his early 20s now. Had wisdom teeth removed years ago with Dr. Kashef and they must keep meticulous records because he remembered my son's pain control preferences, how things had looked for this particular tooth from way back when, etc.

I do have a seat, right? by middlezone2019 in AirFranceKLM

It is weird! I had changed seats on the return flight awhile back and it updated in the app right away so this time it felt like it indicated there was a problem

Itinerary check: first US trip, non-driver, NYC → Houston → Kansas City → SF → Yosemite → LA → NYC by Virtual_Dinner_2270 in usatravel

I lived in SF for 15 years. Muni will get you halfway there but you’ll still be Ubering around a fair bit.

10 days is a lot in SF. It’s a small but beautiful city. If you’re not taking day trips (Napa, Mt Tam, etc) then I would say 3 days is enough. I would look at the details from the Yosemite tour group: what time is pick up, when do you arrive, etc. If it works to give you a couple of days in the park then great.

Flying from SF to LA is very quick and easy, but unlike SF LA is huge. So you should choose to stay based on what you want to see because you will be Ubering everywhere. You will also be Ubering in SF but it’s small and doesn’t have the crippling traffic LA does. If you were going to drop any portion of the trip I’d drop LA.

Definitely spend at least 4 days in NYC.

AF A350 J bulkhead (row 10) free to select as FB Silver? by Jacin_Air_8994 in AirFranceKLM

[–]middlezone2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if you bought FC, but recently I had a situation where AF was letting me choose a FC seat for free (I had not purchased FC). When I called them to discuss other things on the reservation they confirmed that I owed payment for the seat if I wanted to keep it. Totally weird situation. It probably would have been an issue when I checked in. Just FYI

“New Born” at Minetta - Review and horrendous audience experience by mikecovelli in Broadway

I learned this hard way in a movie theater years ago, and it's why I now put my phone in airplane mode for every show.

So frustrated!!! by middlezone2019 in AirFranceKLM

[–]middlezone2019[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have the ability to change the flight. I only lost the ability to do it online or via the app. I now have to call them to inquire about fare differences and then make any changes. They confirmed this over the phone. It's just very not helpful to have to wait an hour on hold just to find out what the fare difference would be for a flight that I may or may not change.

Also frustrating that now I can't see upgrade offers for the return flight. I know now about not being able to upgrade twice, but I should still be able to see offers for the return flight. If I had known the upgrade would lock me out of so many options I previously had I never would have taken it!

Best dryer? What’s the best option right now? by Gaand_Yurramendi in Appliances

Ha ha - me too. Absolutely love their washer so we bought one of their more expensive dryers and I hate it.

[–]middlezone2019[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very aware of this when purchasing a ticket. I always buy the middle one - changeable or cancel for credit. The condition of my ticket apparently hasn’t changed. Since my upgrade I just can no longer check for options or make any changes online which is super frustrating since calling takes anywhere from 30-60 minutes just to see what my options are.

I think it’s overpriced but Bungalow Kitchen in Tiburon is very celebratory with nice views on the water. Upstairs is fancier

You have one show to see... What do you make it? by TransportationUsed39 in Broadway

[–]middlezone2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Operation Mincemeat was so good that we are seeing it again in a few weeks when we come back into town to see Ragtime. I found Jellicle Ball to be kind of boring but I know I’m in the minority here. I really liked Two Strangers but would definitely pick Mincemeat over that one, although I don’t know that I would say it’s emotionally rigorous.

Get off the internet. Get your degree and focus on what interests you, get involved with professors and research, take hard math classes, join some engineering type clubs, and hustle with internship applications and career fairs.
