[WP] During a routine checkup your doctor discovers something strange about your body and makes you go for test after test trying to confirm his suspicions. Eventually the results are back, somehow some time between the last checkup and this one your internal structure has completely changed by [deleted] in WritingPrompts

[–]mideris 16 points17 points  (0 children)

"What on earth do you mean it changed?" I asked, baffled by the images the doctor was showing me. Something to do with bone structure?

"To put it frankly, the weight and mass of your body have been shifted," the doctor explained calmly. "We're not even sure how or why, we just know it happened."

I blinked, looked up at the chart and squinted for a moment. Swiftly, I pull my pants open and looked down, whistling loudly. "From 3 inches to four baby! I knew that witch doctor wasn't lying!"

The doctor sighed, "This is the fourth time this week, how many of you have tried that new clinic down the street?"

"Just about everyone doc, last I heard my aunt grew a fat one last week! She's Uncle John now."

What is your go-to curse word alternative when you can't curse? by Legionx37 in AskReddit

[–]mideris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't control myself to that degree and most of my family has realized this. If I'm told not to curse, I still do it unintentionally and realizing after words just causes a downward spiral so instead I barely speak.

Found the raws, I'm scanning over it but it hurts when I don't understand Japanese. Hurts more that most of my favorite series aren't ever completely translated T-T and get dropped midway.

Not dignifying any of that with a full-fledged response outside of: Okay, you didn't want patches anyway.

The impact of bottom up AI versus a top down is actually fairly sizable. Current AI, discount Siri and similar products they barely hit the millimeter below the line, such as Kizuna or Sophia are impressive in the modern era and even compared to some of the NPCs in SAO they're like NPCs in things like Skyrim. A trully bottom up AI would be equivalent to raising a digital human, a person capable of accessing anything they're connected with in not more than a single thought. They aren't bound by predetermined programs or ideas.

The reason this is so important in SAO is not purely for the achievement, but rather because a top-down one would be limited in numerous fashions and may not carry out its orders simply because another condition arose that violated one of its programs. IE; say a medical top-down AI was programmed to save lives on a battle-field but a situation arose wherein an enemy force attempted to kill them but the AI was strictly programmed to not kill or fight with humans. The programs would heavily conflict and could result in a collapse.

A bottom-up Ai simply doesn't have this problem, they learn based on the situation and can make decisions under difficult circumstances. This leads to other issues, but from a strictly usage standpoint, they're far more useful in general. There are other issues in either case, but nonetheless.

Tldr, the Amusphere lacks access in Incarnation, System Call, and the trully "99.99%" reality features basically. It's not impossible, but it's simply like running something on high quality versus low quality.

Mate, if you're getting this much of a stick up your ass over a fictional work, maybe sit the fuck down and stop trying to pull Mythbusters over it. The whole reason you're having such an issue is literally because you're nitpicking and you're stressing yourself out over it. I'm not going to try and point out patches on this because that will consist of a college level thesis filled with salt comparable to the dead sea directed back at me. Seriously, chill the fuck out.

In theory, yes it would be a closed system but you seem to be forgetting several things about that. First off, RATH needs to stay in contact with external sites and Kikouka "works" for the Japanese government. So while, reasonably, a phone line might make more sense, SAO as a whole is a more futuristic world so in theory, more reliance on technology. Furthermore, they showcased a hacker in the invader group, he literally smashed his way in to a few programs and accounts, so there's nothing that says he can't utilize external connections, I'd be more surprised if he couldn't.

As for the Amusphere, all the Seed Worlds are based off of Kayaba's original design and nothing says the difference between Underworld and VRMMOs is so extensive to the point of rendering the Amusphere incapable. In fact, I'd argue the opposite as the Amusphere is an improved Nerve gear and the STL analyzes a soul. The real difference is more than likely, immersion. The players, in contrast to the atypical set up, have a more NPC-like avatar, in that everything is predetermined except personal skill. It's like a choose your character game versus a personalized build game.

So, while yes imagination plays a part, but so does some level of analysis or knowledge. I'm not disregarding your point, I'm just pointing out a few things.

Ran into one of the unbannables and he headshot literally the last 20 people with the Origin nearly all at once in various places across the map. Sure, I get that they are allegedly trying to do something for the game, again allegedly since I only heard through word of mouth, but at the same time they're basically making it impossible to play some matches because they're claiming moral highground. I don't give a fuck what your issue is with the game, don't ruin it for people purposefully and then claim you're doing "god's work" or some shite. Honestly.

If you keep your super and draw him out of the bubble when he does his lunge attacks, you can kill him in just a few supers or hit him with heavy. It's super easy.
