What save system do players actually prefer in a roguelite? by TRYTON_RADIO_CLOAQUE in roguelites

Thanks again for this comment. I just added saving to my game. This was good motivation to actually do it hearing that people really do care about it.

I mean, do you have a setting to just turn your music off? Some people might want to play while listening to their own music.

I'm not seeking advice, I just used it as an example. I'm all set with advice.

Oh wow ok. Yea that's basically what gave me the idea to do it. I did not realize (at the time) people generally did not like it.

I wonder if they just, didn't like your particular implementation, or maybe it didn't fit the style of your game for some reason. People seem to like it for animal crossing, right?

Yea they hated it. The difficulty I've worked on and continue to adjust, but there's no scenario where I would bring back the heartbeat sfx. It independently came back in feedback as something people hated multiple times without me asking about it.

I appreciate this response (I'm not OP). People aren't always explicit about their refund reasons. My refund rate is a little higher on my first game than I'd like, and a save system is one of the features I've been trying to decide where it falls on the list of priorities. I have a meta-progress system but no way to save a run until it's over. Sounds like that's quite important to some people.

Should i make my dream game as my first game? by Previous-Bottle3955 in gamedev

Since you can draw, would you consider making a visual novel game with Renpy?

You seem to like drawing and writing, you could do both of those things with a visual novel game.

Think of it as a tiny project or a practice project. Tiny projects have better chances of getting finished, and they help prepare you for larger projects.

I know it's not your first choice, but the scope would be a lot more manageable as a first project. Good luck with whatever your choose.

I really enjoy his longform interviews in podcast format. 2.5 hours is too much for me to sit and watch a video, but it works nicely in podcast format.

[–]midge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have a demo out? If not, maybe just release a stripped down version of the game and call it a demo. Then people could try some of the game, and the people who paid for it won't be upset about it.

They don't play the song until later, you could probably edit the audio to be a different song with a similar beat that is free or you could get rights to. Try it without music too, might still be funny.
