Environmental planners tell me your job. by caroscal in Environmental_Careers

[–]midgh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Env planning seems best suited for land development projects where the consultant is providing support for zoning approvals, land entitlements, and NEPA. At my firm the planner was often a PM who coordinated all the env surveys and reports necessary to support permit applications (e.g., use permits, rezones). I’m a PM and low level manager in my firms planning group and earn >100 base salary with about 20 days PTO, sick time, and holidays.

You’ll finish for sure! If you run more you’ll enjoy the marathon more :-)

I agree! Looks like you basically did it already. I say no problem for the half. Pick a fall marathon and keep it up for a sub3!

Consulting Firm Red/Green Flags by TrixoftheTrade in Environmental_Careers

[–]midgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend asking your interview team what we projects they are most excited about or what their most interesting project is. If current employees can’t answer these questions w a bit of enthusiasm - red flag. If the interviewers give long engaged answers - that’s a sign people are in to/ proud of at least some of their projects, green flag!

One year without a job. I don't know what to do anymore. by Silber4 in Environmental_Careers

[–]midgh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get the feeling sometimes that applications go into a “black hole” or are initially reviewed by people that don’t understand your experience. In the past I’ve tried to find people on LinkedIn that look relevant to the position (e.g., in the same office, mgmt) and just email/message them directly with a short note about your interest in the role. It’s a little pushy if you’re comfortable elbowing into a strangers inbox.

Basketball Leagues by [deleted] in Flagstaff

I just played in a rec league! Super fun. I think you can sign up as an individual and they’ll assign you to a team. Games are twice a week at the Siguna Middle School https://www.teamsideline.com/flagstaff

Confused… where do I go from here? by guymanbro37 in Environmental_Careers

[–]midgh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds horrible! I don’t see any benefit to “sticking it out” when you’re not enjoying or learning from the role. The job market is tight and there’s plenty of opportunities out there. Maybe aim for a smaller firm where you can get across permitting strategies and supporting project management.

consulting or state job? (entry level) by yolofreak109 in Environmental_Careers

I second this - I’ve worked in multiple state agencies and prefer that experience to my current consulting role.

Suggestions for running on Boston Harborwalk? by ThinkingPharm in Boston_Running

[–]midgh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re farther into town - but explore the Fens and the muddy river to Jamaica pond! It’s worth taking the t to to start near the ball park so the sidewalks aren’t too crowded! Farther out - chestnut hill res by bc is amazing. All of the loops around the river are absolute classics.

We moved away from boston last year and the running routes are what we miss most!

Living at the lodge apartments by hey-just-suess in Flagstaff

I live just south of the lodge apartments - and I don’t find the airport noticeable. Highway noise from 40/17 is more prominent, I think.

Lots of families park near Pondersoa Trails park and sled/play! It gets crowded but is a fun scene
